  1. Halcyon -- I love your choices of books :) I love this idea of just reading all week. We are so behind I started dropping certain books. Thanks for the idea!
  2. Sorry I did not explain myself well. I meant the OVERVIEW Teaching ENKI Guides Books 1,2, NOT the GRADE GUIDES. Those are different. The OVERVIEW Teaching Guide goes through all the grades and how to implement everything. BUT it doesn't have songs, if songs are what you are looking for. I thought you were looking on HOW to implement for older grades without EVER knowing about Waldorf. Sorry my mistake.
  3. 7th grade and up --- On ENKI site she recommends for High School this http://www.enkieduca...xcellence_2.htm She will not have any curriculum past Grade 3. The Guide Books would help with teaching you about rhythym, but yeah Grade 7 is the point where songs aren't used much because you have already created your rhythym in the early years. I think Waldorf stops around 6th Grade - Middle School, but every child is different. Try thinking of a mood for cleaning or dinner time and then think a song and either hum or sing the song when you want to change to that particular activitity. Do you know how your children would react to you singing? It was strange for my son when he was 3 yrs old when I started this. :) BTW, you might have to ignore comments when they say something to your singing. After about 3 weeks they will expect it and then when you don't, they like are asking you to sing it :)
  4. ENKI Education would fit your bill, atleast the 3 Guide Books. It's more based on buddist principles but people mistake it for Waldorf because of the influence she used from Steiner (basically following Steiner's child development). Your idea of using culture songs for will work great! It's the mood you want to instill....I know one Mom used the Queen's Song "Another Bites the Dust" as a clean-up song.
  5. That is good to know. I was thinking of using as good review for next year with my 5th Grader, since it's supposed to be so indepth. Maybe I can get it in for the last month of 4th grade this year for BA 3C.
  6. BTW, you will be fine with just the e-book version. I bought the hard copy used for Life and Earth and Space but I am thinking of getting RSO Chem as an e-book. It doesn't have a spine but plenty of suggestions for books AND websites. (I forgot to add this in previous posts).
  7. Also, I can bring RSO Life and Earth and Space to the Science Fair, if you want to look at these two books.
  8. ElizabethRose :seeya: --- We need to talk at your Science Fair on March 14.....It looks like we are doing the samthing for Science and Langauge next year with a 5th Grader. I have done RSO Earth and Space and RSO Life Level 1. I wanted to do RSO Chemistry level 2 but it isn't available at the moment. I like RSO because it is alot "doable" altho I never managed to do everything there is to do for the year. For Life this year, I just focused deeply with the Animal Kingdom while following the Carlotte Mason model. The Earth and Space one, was alright. The planets system was alot of fun but again, I didn't use the whole book. So, bottom line, I like the experiments and sheets for RSO and like I said, we only did one experiement in the Fizz, Bubble Flash that didn't work. The book (FB&Flash) is available at your library, if you want to look at it. Ds has the The Elements Book (the visual book) and found all things around the house that was on the periodical table. So, next year I want to do chemistry with more experiments with him. RSO also has extensive book list so you can find appropiate reading materials for Grade 2 and/or Grade 5. I also want to do Ellen Mchenry's Elements and Carbon Chemistry. http://ellenjmchenry...lements_c19.htm Apparently, these two do not take all year to do. I haven't tried Elementary series so I am all :bigear:
  9. I think I want to go. I really like MCT Island and everyone says he is a great speaker. I think I want to hear him for inspiration.
  10. THIS describes my son to a capital T. H e loves MCT Island and he knows his grammer and corrects ME when I get mixed up sentences for lessons. AND for some strange reason, he cannot get enough of Mud! Mud is a strange phenomenon.
  11. Hi, I was looking for some maps to do along American History. We are starting from the beginning this Spring and will continue through next year. So, I am looking for maps, I guess, sort of what Home School in the Woods offers: native Americans map, 13 colonies, purchasing the different states, etc. http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/HTTA/OldeWorldMaps.htm The only reason I don't like the maps from Homeschool in the Woods is it looks kinda too busy looking. Free maps found on the Web is good, too!
  12. Thank you Ruth for taking the time to write this out and sharing your information. This is very much appreciated! Also, than you to others sharing how they use a TM that is difficult in the first place :)
  13. Scroll down to "Robyn's Master Planners for Year 1-8, in both pdf and excel format." Hi, does any one know what Robyn means for "Physics in the Lab"? Is this a book? Thanks for this thread. It is VERY helpful!
  14. Why don't you buy them USED? People are still using the old way and selling them. I have the Gamma (spiral bound book) and I am done with it.
  15. I am using both MM and MUS for the same reasons you are noticing with your dd. My son needed just alittle more to tweek his math skills. I will have him watch the video and he either does a MUS worksheet or MM. MM does a good job going from visual to conceptual understanding and has some puzzle stuff that ds likes. I started fractions recently and I actually started with a living book like Apple Fractions, and then used an apple to illustrate 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and comparing fractions. We are only started Fractions in the last 2 weeks. We use the Blue Series Intro to Fractions but I will incorp. soon the MUS into Fractions 1 MM Book.
  16. :bigear: I am interested in knowing this, too. I plan on buying it soon because we are reading about vikings now and next year we are doing middle ages. Believe or not, I have the Traveler's CD for Explorers but I haven't used it, yet. I did want to do some of the activities but we don't have time this year to do them.
  17. I just found this while looking for Latin and VSL :) I am trying to appropiate math for my gifted son and this looks so good. Jackie can you update this class for you since your son took it last year?
  18. Great thread....I was not clear on this, too. I am so glad you asked. :)
  19. Thanks -- it is wonderful to get an all round perspective on this. Ideas are sparking in my head..
  20. Great! We want to do this, too, but we have to wait another month or 2 :(
  21. ok thanks. I will keep in mind. I will just try reading it and see where it takes me.
