  1. Hi, We have the complete set of Grammer Island and we have been doing Practice Island and reading Sentence Island and using Building Langauges. Ds is loving everything about it. I tried doing some of the Music of the Hemiphere and seem to be stalled in this. It looks like that the last chapter of Building Languages ends is where Music of the Hempheres begins. Can someone tell me how you are using Music of the Hemipheres? We have been doing Tea and Poetry for about a year and I thought I would just read Music of the Hempheres then, after I read some poetry. But, DS seems reluctant and doesn't want to do it. I am wondering if i should either wait until we are finishe w/ either SI and/or BL and then start MOH???? Maybe too much of a good thing going on now? What is Building Poems like in Level 2?
  2. I second livingmath.net. That's where I found some awesome books. This recently---"Fractions and Decimals Made Easy". What a find! But there are lots and lots at the link for each subject of math.
  3. I am listening because we have the book "fizz, bubble and flash" for fun. We tried one experiement and it didn't work. I am wondering if the whole book is like that. Anybody try taking the iron out of the cereal? We couldn't get the baby powder to set off the alarm. We will keep trying other experiments in the book.
  4. I am doing Latin and Greek next year, too. I plan on doing Sing Song Greek with Greek the Code Cracker. Just curious why you chose another route since your dd really liked SSL. My ds really like SSL and asked if they had a Greek program, so that is why we are doing SS Greek. Before I knew that SSL #2 was coming out, I was thinking of using Getting Started With Latin AND Minimus. Now, I do not know if we should do SSL#2 or my plan A, so I am glad you are asking :)
  5. Hi, Another one that is homeschooling an only. :hurray: I would like to have more but it was really hard to conceive this one. I am ALWAYS hoping for a miracle baby! I am still waiting after 9 yrs! I love catering his schooling just for him, too. ANd I have the endless chatter boy but I try real hard to stay focus with his endless chatter because another 8 yrs and he is off to college  We do quiet time, too. It helps to stay sane with him! :)
  6. >>>>>In retrospect, I think it would make a world of sense to do WWS after completing the Town level. In this case, I would have the student do the written exercises in PT. It will make WWS much easier, too - WWS kind of jumps in assuming the students know how to do paragraphs and topic sentences without much direct instruction. PT's direct instruction on paragraphs is much better, IMO. So with my second dd, I will have her do Town level with the writing, and then do WWS after completing PT.<<<<<<< Chrysalis Academy Thanks for this tip! I was thinking of doing WWS with MCT Town next year, but with your retrospect and what you said about WWS, I hold off. To the OP, we are currently going thru Sentence Island, and so far, I have done the writing exercises orally, just because he does get writing in other areas. If I wasn't, I would use the writing assignments. I have a 9 yr old.
  7. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing how it all works out for you!
  8. oh, yeah-- that would not be good :)
  9. Great! If you want to add some pizazz to it, you can create some drawing exercies to go along with it. I bought a small drawing pad. On one side was a definition of some part of speech and then ds wrote a senetence THEN the other side ds drew a picture about his sentence. My ds loves to draw. He likes the circles in MCT Island because he says it looks like atoms. So, I use ds' visualization of atoms with the circles in MCT to cement the different parts of speech and parts of senetences. It hangs in our school room.
  10. Thank you everyone for responses. They are very helpful. So, do you think I could do Code the Cracker first, just to get the lettering down and then do SS GreeK? This is now what I am thinking of doing.
  11. Thanks for your reply. I am not sure its because I like the materials, that I will stick with it, but my son does like it. He is a visual spatial learner and I want to contiue with Latin but I actually chose a different type of Latin curriculum instead of Latin for Children.
  12. Hi, This year we have done Sing Song Latin and my son loves it. He is also retaining with playing the memory game. He is interested in learning Greek. I saw on the site for SSL that there is SS Greek, but there is another book called The Greek Alphabet Code cracker. Do I do this book first before SS Greek or do I use it along with SS Greek? my son is 9 yrs old.
  13. I tried leaving feedback, too and for some reason it does not like what I type in for the Security Code. I tried it 5 times!
  14. Question ----- It says you cannot print the PDF document ($5 version). Is there anything in the book that I would need print out for my child?
  15. Hi, I just want to emphasize that you are doing great! You have found out that your child needs something else. What that is, is your next step. You are doing better than any other professional teacher out there! :hurray: You have been great advice here. I don't know if I could add to it. I do have a VSL kid, a right-brained thinker who hated C-rods, too. We played different math games but what got us back into swing of things was "Life of Fred". That and Math Mammoth. Have you look into Brain Gym? Link http://www.braingym.com/ This also helped him. I would stick it in during circle time and he never was the wiser that he was doing anything but movements to songs. You are doing great! Hang in there!
  16. QUOTE >>>>>Nevermind my post below. I was talking about Building Language!<<<<<< YES!!! We are talking about Building Languages! Sorry I didn't mean MCT Building Vocabulary, I meant Building Languages! :o I am glad some of you understood me anyway!
  17. Wow! Thanks for all the ideas. They are wonderful, except NOW I really do not know what to do. Too many ideas I want to do and so little time
  18. Thank you everyone! This helps alot. 3peasinapod --- My son is also very visual type, too. We did the Grammar island with pictures and definitions and he loved it, too. I was trying to figure out a way, if it was possible, to do it visually with BV. Now I have some ideas. I wish you had done the flip books because I would love to see how this would look.
  19. Thanks Wendy---ok -- so you just did some of the activities that are thrown throughout the book. so, Nothing added to it? Am I seeking retention of the stems and definition or just introduction because in the TOWN LEvel it goes deeper?
  20. Thank you for this post! I have been wondering about these writing programs.
