  1. We were told a few months ago that my DD#3 needs braces. Her teeth are straight but she has a cross bite. We won't be getting her braces.
  2. My Shih Tzu and Yorkie get groomed every five weeks. Our Rat Terrier's only get a bath after they roll in something.
  3. My DS12 is half way through TT6. He's not doing any other math programs. We love TT! :D
  4. This is what I do too. If my son's book reads: "Go home." said, Peter But he reverses it and says: "Go Home." Peter said I don't say anything. If he misses a word altogether I'll tap the skipped word when a pen. My DS12 is getting to the point that he's going back and rereading a passage if it doesn't sound quite right to him. My DS is constantly reading "WAS" for "SAW" and vice versa.
  5. I don't have much of a system. I do laundry for five. Every Monday and Friday I get all the laundry in the house done. I do this in case DH has to go on a business trip. My Speed Queen washing machine only takes 28 minutes to run a full cycle, but the dryer takes a hour. I'll wash a load of darks that I will run through the dryer (I don't like lint on darks), and then I'll wash a load of towels or blankets/sheets that can be hung out to dry. I keep alternating loads that go in the dryer with loads that can be hung outside to dry until everything is done. I can get all the laundry done in a day. I use the timer on my cell phone to keep on top of when cycles are ending. To minimize sorting time I wash each of my kid's hampers individually. I don't want to ask what shirt belongs to what kid. When the load is done I make the owner put all the clothes away. I used to do laundry every day but I found my electric bill was higher. I found doing laundry much easier when I bought a few rolling laundry baskets. My house is long and my back (sciatica) has seen better days. The bedrooms are on one end of the house and the laundry room is on the opposite end. I really hated lugging baskets of clothes back and forth. These are my rolling baskets, I've seen them at Walmart too. *** My biggest tip for doing laundry is put the laundry away when it's done. Don't let laundry sit around in baskets. ***
  6. My DH went for a sleep study about 14 years ago and ended up having surgery. The surgeon whittled out his hangy thing, took his tonsils, and rototilled his nose. He was in ICU for a day or so after surgery. The surgery really wiped him out.
  7. YUM! I love satay! We are having low carb pizza. :)
  8. When my oldest DD21 was younger I never shared any financial information with her and I regret it. So now I tell my kids still at home (DD16, DD15, & DS12) quite a bit about our finances. They know how much my electric, car insurance, health insurance, cell phone bills, internet bills, etc. cost every month. They even know how much a month we spend on food. They know how much my property taxes are and why we need to save up money all year long so we can pay them. I'm not trying to burden my kids with this info but I don't want them to grow up thinking everything is easy to get. My kids really appreciate what they have. My kids have no idea how much my DH earns or how much we have invested. :thumbup1:
  9. My DS12 has severe dyslexia. He was in public school up until the beginning of 5th when I pulled him out. In 4th grade he could read nine words, that's it! I finally decided to stop believing the lies his school was feeding me and decided I'd get my boy reading even if it killed me. We started working before and after school, at the beginning with the sounds letters make. It turned out, he didn't know the sounds. You would think his IEP team could have figured this out? It probably took him six months to learn all the sounds and he still forgets sometimes. Learning the sounds letters make helped his reading a ton. When he returned to 5th grade in the fall, he was reassessed and his reading had come up to 1.5. I decided to pull him from school because he had made more progress at home over summer than he had in six years (K twice) of public school. At home I had him using Dancing Bears and Bear Necessities, which is the industrial strength version of Dancing Bears, and his reading took off. Now I have him using Pathway Readers
  10. Legends of the Beer (Fall) Scary Beer (Movie) Nightmare on Beer (Elm) Street
  11. We always have too much clutter and I am blind to it. Recently I've been looking at houses for sale online, and I have noticed that unless the house is empty, most houses look cluttered to me. I think other peoples "stuff" looks like "junk" to me, but they must think it looks nice? I'm not sure.
  12. We had a major flea problem a few years ago after my old DD took her corgi camping with a friend. I tired EVERYTHING to get rid of fleas, at first it seemed like I was winning the battle but then there would be another hatch. Fleas have a really weird life cycle (egg, larva, pupa, and imago) so it's really hard to get them at all stages. What finally worked for me was sprinkling Fleabusters all over our carpets, under couch cushions, and in dog beds. One application of the powder lasts a full year. Another plus is I haven't had any ants in the house since I put down the first application. We stopped getting flea bites about seven days or so after treatment. You could use food grade Diatomacious Earth instead of the fleabusters. We also put nematodes on the back lawn. I'm not sure how effective this is because you really can't see the nematodes or even know if they are really alive or not.
  13. That is so sad.:crying: I've had my little rat terrier, Butter, for nine years or so. I can't imagine not having her. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  14. The two dachshunds I know are the same way. They are both boys. We have three little rat terriers and they are all like this too. My dog follows me around all day. She even goes to the laundry room with me and she sleeps under the covers. My daughters each have a rat terrier and their dogs follow them around all day too. My oldest has a corgi. The corgi is the same way, following my DD around all day. The corgi doesn't sleep under the covers though, she sleeps at the top of my daughter's head. My DH's shih Tzu follows him everywhere and waits by the door when he goes outside or if she thinks he's coming home from work. I have her sleeping in a pen so I don't know if she likes to get under the covers or not.
  15. Same here! We also keep the bathroom door closed.
  16. I really like that area, but DH isn't a fan of the whole Houston area. I've tried to convince him, but he's not having it.
  17. We want to get out of California too. We'd like to move to a state with low or no state income taxes. We also need to be within a hour or two of an airport. Tops on our list: Vancouver area in Washington Gardenerville, NV Tulsa, OK Dallas area http://www.city-data.com/ is a great website for fact gathering.
  18. We bought a foam mattress topper from Costco about five years ago. The topper fits the mattress perfectly. I love the topper! When we travel I miss it. The mattress topper does make you hotter though. The summers are hot where I live 100+ degrees some days, but I wouldn't think about taking off the topper, I love it too much.
