  1. In hopes that the ice would melt off the streets, we had a 2hour delay for the local schools. The paved roads are not bad (accept for the blowing snow) but the dirt roads are a mess. We have some roads that are flooded but the water is receeding. Hoping to get errands run before the next round on Monday.
  2. My niece's name is Marysa- she is named for my mom, Mary. Everyone always comments on how pretty her name looks and sounds.
  3. Yes! I am also in NE Colorado- Sterling. Where are you? We had 4H and VBS meetings tonight and it was dizzying driving home.
  4. I am praying. I broke down when I saw this on the news. My sons and brother are big marathon runners but none are there today. We have many friends who are runners and several are there. My heart breaks hearing about the deaths and the number of amputees.
  5. We got a small chest freezer and still use it to this day- 15+ years later. It has been with us thru several moves and it has been such a blessing to us.
  6. The email that the kindle is registered to should be listed under my account under settings.
  7. I do this every year. I bake and freeze a variety of cookies, bars, quick breads, rolls, muffins, scones, cupcakes, etc. I pack most items in freezer bags with all the air sucked out. Quick breads and cakes are usually wrapped in plastic wrap and then in thick foil. I have never had an issue with something going bad and we like having homemade items all summer long.
  8. Our spring break started today. We follow the public school schedule since our eldest attends. However, we have a track meet today and one next Saturday. We have practice three days next week, a 4H meeting, a 4H scrapbooking class (I teach It), and youth group (which I am a leader for). Tuesday is the only day we do not have anything (well, I did, but I rearranged my schedule) so DH is taking the day off and we are going to take a family day.
  9. I was 21. My mom 22. My dad had just turned 21. His mom had just turned 18 and his dad was 19. My grandparents were 60 and 61 when they became great grandparents. My mom turned 44 the week before she became a grandma. My dad was 42. DH turned 22 a week before our first was born. MIL was 22.
  10. When the kids were younger we (the kids and I) made their Easter baskets each year- paper macher, string basket, decorate sand pail, paperbag basket, etc. Once they started getting older we started giving them a bag, box, or container of some sort. In the past we have done 5 gallon buckets (for holding nerf guns and swords), cake keeper (for 4H cakes), shoe bags (for track), mesh laundry bags (for those going to first year of camp), storage ottomans, backpacks, rubbermaid totes, game piece organizers, etc. This year all of the kids are getting new duffle bags to use for their sports gear and for our family trip this summer.
  11. Our "baskets" are not really baskets but are a bag, box, or container of some sort. All of the kids will get several packs of gum, a few Russel Stover eggs, a chocolate bunny, and peeps. Individually they are getting: 16 year old son- duct tape, iphone case, green shoe laces, travel toiletries, Chick fil a gift card 15 year old son- PEZ, droid case, red shoe laces, travel toiletries, Chick fil a gift card 12 year old son- Legos, Hobbit movie, Star Wars Angry Birds bandaids, doodle book 10 year old daughter- mini erasers, beading kit, nail polish, journal and pen
  12. Pioneer Woman's Chicken Spaghetti, glazed baby carrots, and dinner rolls
  13. I have two in highschool. My sophomore has attended public school since 7th grade and is actively involved in sports and clubs. My freshman wanted to continue being homeschooled but also wanted to participate in sports. Our district allows him to participate in sports without taking any classes at the school. His fee is 150% of the fee for public school attendees and we must fill out required paperwork. It has worked well for us. He is currently in track and enjoying his athletic experience. He lettered in cross country in the fall and received a letterjacket for Christmas. He likes being part of the team.
  14. We have an 05. We have had it 3 years this month and put 40,000 miles on it- it is now at 122,000.
  15. We have a Honda Pilot and are very happy with it. My DH is 6'4" and has plenty of head room. Our teens are just shy of 6' and usually share the center seat with one of the younger two. Our kids our 10-16 and I usually have a niece or nephew joining us. I love having the space for an extra kid or two. I have had 7 teens in there with me and they are comfortable. The back row does not have much leg room but it is fine for me- I am 5'3". I like the way I can fold down 1,2, or all 3 back seats. My boys like the fact that the seat behind the passenger seat can be moved back separately for more leg room. We always had a conversion van but, after I was in a head on accident 3 years ago, we decided to get an SUV. On the highway, it averages 23 mpg with all 6 of us and our gear. In town running little errands and short jaunts- it averages 18-19 mpg. I usually fill up twice a month. We have taken long road trips (2600 miles) and been comfortable. Of course, we do not have the cargo room we had with the conversion vans but it has worked great for us.
  16. It has been 16 years since I had mine out. It is really an experimental process to see how your body best handles foods. Every couple of years there seems to be a new food that my body can no longer handle. I try to keep a food diary when I start having issues. It usually takes a week or two to figure out what is causing the problem. Some things I can handle if I have something else in my stomach first. Ice cream, french fries, and caffeine all cause my body to go haywire if I have not first put something mild in my system first. I know it is frustrating but you will figure it out.
  17. I listen to audio books all day long. I listen while I cook, clean, sew, do laundry, wash dishes, shop for groceries, organize closets and drawers, and other everyday tasks. I am able to "read" for about 50 hours a week.
  18. We do build your own pizza quite often. We always offer tomato pizza sauce and pesto for a base, we have also offered alfredo sauce, ranch dressing, and bbq sauce. The toppings we try to have available are: pepperoni sausage canadian bacon chicken strips black olives green olives sundried tomatoes variety of peppers onions mushrooms mozzarella cheese asiago or romano cheese parmesan cheese cheddar cheese feta cheese and whatever else catches my eye to add to the mix
  19. You can also add cocoa powder to darken and thicken.
  20. We have two workers in each room- either 2 adults or an adult and a teen. Everyone must pass a background check. We also have a nursery monitor who is in charge of checking kids in, bringing in snacks, monitoring who is entering rooms, and is the one to get parents if there is an issue. We have 6 monitors (I am one) we rotate weeks but are available to fill in if need be. On our weeks, we also take out trash from the nursery and wipe down everything. Anything that needs washing or sanitizing is taken care of as well. Most parents are not familiar with the faces of the various workers but can identify us monitors because we are seen more often.
  21. My 16 year old just got his first HPV shot on Tuesday, he gets his second one in April, and the third and final one in August. Our doctor is a wonderful Christian man that we have known since we were teens- we used to hang out with his kids. I trust him completely. He delivered all four of our kids, is a church elder, Christian counselor, and a very knowledgable man. Last year, he told me that we might want to consider it but that it was not necessary. This year, he said that he was strongly advising us to start it. He had done further research and really felt that it was important. As he put it- everyone makes mistakes and sins (even good Christian kids). He felt that it was better to err on the side of caution than risk serious issues down the line. We are strong believers in immunizations but make sure we are well educated on the pros and cons of each.
  22. We are planning to go in July. My daughter and I are hoping to plan the trip so we can be at the Madison Children's Museum American Girl Sale. I did not realize that there was a state park there- we will definitely check it out.
  23. We have been leaning towards the Kalahari and I am glad to know that it is a safe place for "teen freedom". I appreciate all the recommendations for Chicago. Our boys are runners, very into outdoors, love math, science, and history. We enjoy visiting historical sites and experiencing the way things used to be. In the past we have followed the Lewis and Clark trail from St. Louis to the Pacific, visited Abraham Lincoln's birthplace and boyhood home, gone to Fort Knox, visited many national and state parks, toured ancient ruins, and more. We have a wide range of interests in our family but we really like doing things that we can experience together.
  24. I have 6 crowns. The first couple I felt nervous about but have a great dentist who puts me at ease and I have complete trust in. I am always awake for the entire procedure and usually bring an audiobook to listen to. If I have to get up and use the bathroom, I just let them know. My dentist makes the crown inhouse so it is usually a 3 hour visit and I get everything done in one visit. I am sure you will be fine and you shouldn't feel any pain.
