  1. We have been married 13.5 years. Our anniversary is in December. I was 19 and he turned 20 two months before on our wedding day.
  2. I like my name but if I had to change it I would pick Kathryn- my daughter's name.
  3. I wish it was spelled Rebekah but I still really like it. If it wasn't my name, I may have named my daughter Rebekah..
  4. We got ours three years ago and cannot believe how much money it has saved us. We use very little detergent and bleach and the water use has been cut down tremendously. Not to mention, the decreased drying time- some things just skip the dryer all together because they are almost dry when they come out of the washer. Our clothes hold up much better with less wear and tear. I can wash comforters, sleeping bags, and large blankets. I could go on and on. They are great and I will never go back.
  5. I recommend the Jonathan Park Audio series. It comes with a study guide and a website with activities to do. We listened to these before starting our tour of the great outdoors. We also listened to them on our trip. There is one that takes place along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. You can find the series at http://www.jonathanpark.com/ or at CBD. The series is about some families of scientists who homeschool their kids and run a Creation Museum. They go on adventures to prove creation through science.
  6. In addition to what everyone else has said, I would add extended field trips. When my oldest started fourth grade he needed to study our state. We took four days to travel around the state and really see the state. He learned the state bird after having it fly right by him, can give several unique facts about insects and soil after visiting the sand dunes, and learned so much more. When studing the westward expansion we followed many of the old wagon trails. In one year we drove across every major river in the US. We have explored mining tunnels, walked along the Grand Canyon, visited Lincoln's boyhood home, seen Mount Rushmore (several times), played in the badlands, watched Old Faithful erupt, been stopped by heards of buffalo, stood in four states at once, looked over Hoover Dam, found shrimp in the ocean, hiked to old cliff dwellings, crossed the continental divide (numerous times), and many more wonderful hands on experiences that we learn so much from. We try to camp and take back roads so we can really see our beautiful country. It is true educational and family bonding experience.
  7. I also recommend the Usborne book with bodies as machines. My younger kids found it fascinating, asked questions, and seemed satisfied with what they knew. My older boys have gone into more indepth talks with us and have studied the human body and also found the book interesting.
  8. It will depend on where the break is and how severe it is. Two years ago I broke the top of my foot near the front. I had a surgical boot on for 8 weeks. Two weeks ago a lady in our church broke her foot closer to the ankle and has an air cast. Last year my daughter's AWANA teacher broke her foot in two places and was in a hard cast.
  9. Last year my daughter had her hair cut for the first time (a few trims prior). I was a little teery eyed but knew that her hair would grow back. She was almost five at the time and her hair was half way down her back. She had it cut shoulder length and it looked so cute, was healthy, and much easier to work with. In February she had her hair cut again. This time it was cut chin length but is already to her shoulders. Hair grows and cuts are not permanent. I would go ahead and cut her hair now before all of the summer damage sets in.
  10. Our library is small and usually does not have what we need. As a result, we buy most of our books. While I do not like the expense, I like having everything on hand and not having to worry about returning anything.
  11. I am in NE Colorado and am really getting sick of the wind. The wind a week ago uprooted a tree in our yard and the tumbleweeds seem to be multiplying.
  12. I have earlier memories but this is one of the first that I can remember the feel, the smell, the sounds, and everything regarding the next day. It was snowing and we had to run barefoot across the ground to our neighbors. I had to throw away some of my dolls because of smoke damage. We had a wood burning furnace and when my dad went to throw logs in during the night, it blew back in his face. Burnt his eyebrows off but no serious injuries. We all got safely out of the house and the fire damage was limited to three rooms but smoke damage was everywhere.
  13. Our house caught on fire when I was 8. i still remember the damage that the fire did and how the smoke was everywhere. We are currently renting and carry renter's insurance.
  14. Another vote for the Key-To's. They are great and you can get specifically what you need.
  15. The new version of Wordly Wise has added some latin and greek origins as well as more indepth word study. My boys are looking forward to the new format.
  16. You could try doing some community type things. Visiting the post office, bank, court house, McDonalds, and other businesses. Have a tour and discuss how important each element is to the community. Different skills and knowledge that are needed for each job and business. You could discuss money, time, distance, and other topics as well.
