  1. Oh, wow! AWESOME! Thanks, Dawn! This is great because I couldn't get ds into an art class, no class really :tongue_smilie:but I think he has a penchant for drawing (although he won't admit it. ;)
  2. Could you all see using the Earth Curriculum for a 2nd grader?
  3. I would vote NM, too. Being from there. :D Also, Many folks moved there back when diseases like TB were rampant (a LONG time ago) just because of the conditions there. The winters are mild (probably a lot like FL). The only thing is getting used to the lack of green :) being you're moving from FL. :)
  4. We like a mishmash :) My ds is working on this for 1st: American History (following www.ourlosbanos.com suggestions) MUS Alpha followed by Singapore 1A & 1B First Language Lessons 1 Explode the Code Noeo Science Bio I +whatever he's interested in (he's a science buff) Draw Write Now for handwriting and learning to draw :D
  5. Joanne, First off, Happy Birthday. (((hugs))) I can only say that I was pleasantly surprised to see you here after highly respecting and admiring you from another board. You have been a source of inspiration in breaking a mold. YOU ARE NOT A LOSER. I think it's admirable that you are willing to do what you need to do to give your family everything possible. That is not losing, that is providing, that is loving, that is very much being efficient and capable. So incredibly far from being a loser. You are awesome!
  6. :iagree: We can borrow books through "Prospector" which allows us to borrow books from nearby counties. It's been awesome b/c we're not just subjec to the books in our area.
  7. I went to high school in Japan (I was a Navy child). I married an Army man and we have found ourselves in beautiful CO. I knew that some of my Japan alumn were here, but not exactly where. One of my friends invited us to their church. It's a smallish church in a strip mall, but we loved it. I look up in the church band, and it's one of my former classmates! Too crazy!
  8. Using your schedule, this is our schedule LOL. Daily: Dishes Make beds Wipe down kitchen counters and table Clean kitchen sink Laundry Every Other Day: Sweep/vacuum kitchen floor Vacuum main level Tidy up Twice Per Week: Vacuum Mop kitchen floor Clean bathrooms Clean kids' rooms Weekly: Mop kitchen floor Clean Bathrooms Dust Wash bed sheets Clean classroom, kids' room, etc. (they help me with this) Monthly: Shampoo rugs Wash comforters Clean refrigerator Quarterly: Clean windows Clean out closets and get rid of old clothes, toys, etc.
  9. It's not exactly classical literature :P, but we LOVED Oddhopper Opera. It was really a neat book and got thumbs up by both my dc's and that's a diverse group. LOL.
  10. Hi Tamara, We plan on doing HWOT, BFIAR and Kumon books for my PreK 4 yo dd. I think ETC is a great addition no matter what curriculum you use. :)
  11. I also try to "plan" things on Sunday evening. I get all the books together & have a general idea of what I want accomplished during the week. This ind of gets me amped. :P Also, MTW's are really our most structured days (we're pretty relaxed) as I nanny on those days, so that helps a lot. :)
  12. Any likes/dislikes for Great States Junior? This is a great thread! Very timely :)
  13. Wow, I just checked this out & it's awesome. Thanks!!!
  14. To cut back on debt and added to savings, I've: 1) Secured another job as a nanny, which has helped me consider the amount of hours that go into a purchase (I know it seems basic, but it has helped greatly). This helps significantly in impulse buys. :P 2) REALLY worked hard at exploring used curriculum before buying new. 3) I fully concentrate on where the best deals for certain items are and reserve purchasing those things, UNLESS I can get them elsewhere for a better price. 4) I use coupons religiously. I really do think they make a difference. 5) We work on meal plans and limit meat consumption as well. 6) We line dry our clothes & turn down the thermo. We've used primarily electric space heaters in exchange for gas, as it's better priced here. 7) Trim ds's hair on our own.
  15. :iagree: I agree, and we eat all natural and primarily organic!
  16. I 2nd free e-curriculum, one we've used http://www.ebibleteacher.com & go to Sunday School Lessons :)
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss. (((hugs))) I was very close to my g-gma, too. It was very hard when she passed.
