  1. Thanks, Christy. I appreciate your feedback, especially since it seems I've been interested in the curr. you've already tried. :) It's good to know the teacher's guide is not necessarily necessary. :)
  2. I'm considering using this for next year. Could those of you who have used it, please give me the pros/cons? TIA. :)
  3. :iagree: That's what I did when ds was in PreK. I think I drove his teacher nuts LOL. I would probably finish grad school & go back to social work :)
  4. Ours has been in an ebb and flow. Dh works as a US Army Recruiter, so he puts in an amazing number of hours, but I have a PT job as a nanny, too. I have been doing the greater amount of housework, cooking, etc., but have recently reached a point of being overwhelmed and a little resentful, too. So, after much discussion he is helping out a lot more and it makes a HUGE difference. I've really tried to make a point of thanking him and telling him how helpful it is.
  5. Wow, in seeing this, I can tell we're really far behind, too :P Although, based on the Virginia Requirements we're ahead :o
  6. We did "How to teach you child to read in 100 ...", then we did "Click n Kids." Ds liked it for awhile, but then got tired with it and we moved on to using early readers. Amongst all of these, he learned to read.:p
  7. DS is fairly "science oriented" @ 6.yo. & isn't very challenged at Biology I, but I'm subbing to hear other reviews of Noeo. :)
  8. ArwenA, I'm subbing & I can't get your link to come up right :( I'd love to hear your advice :)
  9. It's quite fun to read what she has posted :)
  10. I'm using a curriculum from ourlosbanos.com for American History I. I'm so happy to see little has changed for their 2nd grade curriculum, as I was planning for that next year :) Thanks!
  11. :) Subscribing because I'm curious about the same.
  12. In terms of support, I feel very supported. We have a great, active hs group here, with many moms that I've become close to. My extended family is supportive of our choice (although they have questioned it in the past). For those who don't support our choice, I'm not so much concerned with them. Dh & I feel as though we're doing the right thing by God & for our children, so that supercedes others' opinions. We are due to move in the coming year & I pray I'm able to find a great hs'ing group there, too. In terms of the actual work, sometimes I feel overwhelmed and daunted. Dh works ridiculous hours (he's an Army recruiter) and I often do all the hs'ing and all the housework, so that can be difficult at times.
  13. We have laminate flooring, too. :) I think hardwood wood work well & flow well, too.
  14. I agree. I'm in the same boat after nearly an entire winter of colds. :(
  15. Monday thru Wednesday I nanny, so I usually just do the bare minimum (as I'm likely to get spit up on LOL). When I meet w. other hs Mamas or run errands, I try to look a little more presentable. I don't wear makeup all the time. I wish I could have that kind of commitment. :P I'm a curly girl, too. I straightened it for a long time, but I miss my curls, so I'm going back. :)
  16. We are a hs'ing, military family, too. I agree with the PPs that the Army can actually be a great influence in developing one's character and relationship with God. I don't think, had I married someone close to home and had my family there 24/7, that I would have developed some of the characteristics I have. This is sometimes a very challenging life, all the more to depend on our Lord. I have seen dh's values challenged, but I've also seen him grow incredibly in his relationship with God as a result of the challenges of Army life. I agree w. the PPs that choosing a spouse that can handle all the ups and downs of this lifestyle is really important, although I'm not so sure you can be prepared for it until you're doing it (kind of like parenting ;)).
  17. We used taxslayer.com this year OL. They offer free filing for military families. It was the first time I did it OL by myself & it was really very easy.
  18. I had very good success at selling mine on Ebay. :)
  19. I second Noeo. We're using the Biology 1 set and we love it. :)
  20. We're in CO, although it looks like we might be leaving in the next year. :( We're a military family NE of Denver (Westminster) & we have a great group of classical hs'ers! If you're interested, PM me & I'll give you the details. :)
  21. Oh wow, this all describes C very well. What great recommendations!
