  1. Mayawrap is a ring sling that's badly named, moby wrap is a stretchy wrap, didn't really love either, although some of the mayawrap patterns have grown on me. Sleeping baby productions and mayawrap have the cheapest ring slings. SBP has a great reputation for quality.
  2. Depends on my mood! My 8yo is happy to make sandwiches, oatmeal, or cold cereal for himself and his little brother, and they eat a ton of fruit. I try to prepare "real" meals on the weekends, and usually make eggs and toast every morning.
  3. Thank you! My 8 year old is a geography buff and I'm trying to find him an appropriate program, but it's hard to get a feel just looking at Amazon/RR descriptions. And it's not 10 years old so all the links will be fresh!!
  4. As the oldest of four, whose main income until college was babysitting, I suppose that would be age 18 when I moved into a dorm :P That type of pretend play with my own friends probably ended around 12 or 13.
  5. I love squash and cook it either savory or sweet. Butternut squash I have used with apples and brown sugar (basically apple crisp, but half of it's butternut) Acorn Squash I stuff with spinach, onions, and parmesan. Everything else I roast in garlic and onions and serve over rice or just as a side. I just tried patty pan for the first time last night. Squash also works great in soups and stews - it's particularly vegetarian friendly IMO.
  6. I use WWE a year behind. Right now we are still in the first part of the book and copywork is minimal - twice a week. Narration twice a week and the parent can write it down. My son has a hard time with handwriting so I require only a small number of perfectly written words... that's working for us.
  7. My mother paid for my dress, and she encouraged me to buy the one I really liked instead of hunting through the sale racks. I would still pick that dress, it was beautiful.
  8. No, I had the keen sense of smell prior to testing, but I get BFP pretty easily (about a week before my missed period) and the nausea doesn't kick in until week 6 or 7 with me. It seems logical to me that if your hormones have hit the point where you're having symptoms, it should show up on a test, shouldn't it? But I guess that's not the case from the other replies - my sensitivity to hormonal changes must be about the same as an average HPT :tongue_smilie:
  9. I think I would still be alive; no allergies, no scary childbirth stories, no surgeries. My kids and husband as well. I did have a c-section but that was a failed induction. There have been many times I've been glad that I haven't had to suffer through without meds and modern comforts, though. Even though I haven't had to deal with anything that would have killed me, I've been in serious pain and there's always been some relief available.
  10. I would not want a D&C in the ER, based on my urgent care and emergency room experiences. I'm sorry for your loss.
  11. Have they ruled out double vision? My vision itself is OK but when my eyes are tired, I see like a reflection or shadow when looking at things. I know it's time to fish out my glasses when I have to close one eye to see better. It's also usually time to shut off the TV. My eye doctor never would have discovered this if I didn't know her well and we weren't chatting casually. Some of the things I said were a flag to her and she immediately screened me to rule out any serious neurological issues. My vision was corrected with prism lenses. Editing to also add that stories about doctors like this are why I pay out of pocket for one I trust, though she doesn't take our insurance, rather than going to some random in network person.
  12. Mine are not that close in age (5, almost 6 years) but they still have a lot of fun together. I actually wanted the greater gap for many reasons.

    Partying

No, I am a proud homebody and always have been :)
  14. Yes, I do it, but I don't really worry about the definitions being perfectly memorized. Grammar is important to me. Ask me about other subjects and I'd be more than happy to share how much of the lesson I blow off...
  15. My son is ahead for now by a year, year and a half, but I wouldn't be surprised if he slowed down a bit this year. I think it's easier to forge ahead with kids when you are sitting there encouraging them to do their best and they are comfortable asking questions about every little thing, rather than a student in a classroom, who will have to work more independently and even guess a bit. Like I said, my son may slow down this year. He struggles with handwriting and Math Mammoth has small spaces for answers (not that we can't modify it) but the word problems are also becoming more complex. While he has what I would consider overall good reading comprehension, it's in a big picture way. He could really take or leave the details, which are a pretty big deal in a math word problem!
  16. I stretched out my appointments by simply calling and rescheduling for the next week. I would say things like, "I don't have a car until [preferred date]." I did not have any health issues in the third trimester and really enjoyed not being at the doctor's office all the time :) Despite this, I still managed to get to know my care providers and have a great birth.
  17. I moved my family into my parents' house for 5 mos while we were saving up for a down payment on a house, and we had an arrangement involving utilities.
  18. I don't think you need any special diet or to give up any particular food to lose 1lb/week, unless perhaps you have a medical condition. I ate tons of food while losing weight, although of course in the beginning I went to bed hungry a few times because I hadn't learned to control my early day time portions yet. I set myfitnesspal (which has apps and, if you have a smartphone, you can even scan food barcodes right in) to lose 1lb/week and that is exactly what I did, while eating back SOME of my exercise calories. I eat chocolate every day. Calories in and out are always an estimate so if you don't do your best to make sure you measure accurately, you may or may not see results. I am definitely not someone who can simply eat healthy food and maintain a healthy weight. I just have to pay a lot of attention to calories. I was surprised to learn how much control I have over my weight. I am 17 weeks pregnant right now and have gained maybe a pound... usually I am 20lbs up by this point. Some people find calorie counting tedious but I've done it long enough to find it liberating. I am in control of my weight.
  19. We just started Elemental Science and Elemental History and I really, really like everything about the way they are set up.
  20. I'm in the northeast and have heard it. I may have even used it jokingly once.
  21. Tweaking our schedule but no material choices have changed. I was not feeling well and got going two days late so I gave him an extra work load to catch up (great way to start off, right? You'd think I'd know better) and he did it in less than two hours. That includes meandering out to the couch where surfed online and looked at pictures of the serpent mound in Ohio. I'm not sure if this means I should add more or not, honestly. If I could tweak in a way that would have my son doing more independent work, that would be awesome, because he is going to be bouncing around between different caregivers a lot for the next four months... but this seems to be more of a personality and confidence issue.
  22. I'm hardheaded and wasn't willing to do things the school's way. Now I homeschool for mostly educational reasons, but I am also glad that we are able to infuse our faith into little guy's education.
  23. Elephant, seriously, elephant? Most pregnancy comments are absolutely fine with me. Even the "are you sure there's only one in there" that I get toward the end. But don't compare me to a 6,000lb animal. (I'm not going to google the actual weight of an elephant... you get the gist).
  24. I never threaten it, but I do point out that he would have to do a so much more sitting still if he were in school. This is always in response to his complaints about having to sit and work for 15 or 20 minutes. I also point out that he would have a much different morning routine (big homemade breakfast eaten while watching cartoons in his PJs). Our situation is different because PS is not on the table. Also, you will still have to deal with homework if you send them to PS and you won't have school as a consequence if they don't do it. I'd handle bad schoolwork related behavior as you do other bad behavior.
