  1. From Oct to March, my feet are cold no matter what I do. So I made a rice bag (old sock filled with rice and knotted) that I microwave for 1.5mins before bed. I hold it between my feet to warm them up. Usually once they GET warm, they STAY warm. Good luck! PS. Microplush sheets helped too.
  2. I've both bought and sold on that site and had good experiences throughout.
  3. I had yorkies back in the dark ages. They were my babies when I couldn't have babies (8yrs of infertility). I love yorkies, and they are the cutest little puppies! I think Edmund is a fabulous name!
  4. My sister took her 4yo DD to a specialist yesterday, after months of E complaining of her feet hurting. He basically told Sis that E is spoiled and when she gets over the stage where she wants to be held, her feet will magically stop hurting. Didn't impress me a bit.
  5. DH found a tarantula crossing our kitchen back in June. Good thing *he* found it or we'd have moved again - somewhere without giant hairy spiders. Copperheads, baby or not, would also cause me to move. At least the tarantula eats the scorpions that wander in. Or this one did eat - until DH smashed him.
  6. There are sooo many free resources out there for that age. I wouldn't hesitate to begin homeschooling just because of money issues. I hope you find answers for your DD soon. Poor little bug...sounds miserable.
  7. Yes, we go with DH when he travels. In fact, he and DS10 are going to OKC this week for 4 days. We stay in his room but pay for our meals separately (his on company card). The difference is that DH is working during the travel - he's a corporate pilot. Once he's on the ground and the plane is put to bed, he is free to do as he pleases. So our going with him depends on who the passenger is. Most don't mind us tagging along; the one won't allow it. DS goes quite often. I only go if I'm specifically invited (usually because they will be gone for an extended time). We are very blessed indeed.
  8. Pixel of Ink - young edition sometimes has books for young kids. (These are not classics; they are current books.)
  9. Kristen, to my knowledge, he has not seen a speech pathologist. I doubt she could take him either. They just moved across the country for the husband's new job and have really crappy insurance. They are living hand-to-mouth right now, trying to recover from the cost of the trans-continental move. I will mention it to her, though, in case she knows a SP back home or has met one here. Thanks for the feedback!
  10. I've heard that about many movies. The higher rating markets the movie to a different audience. Hmmm....where's the nearest RedBox????
  11. That's a good point, honeymommy4. I didn't think to ask her that, but I will tomorrow. Thanks!
  12. And how would you address it? My friend's 8yo son: reads on level, math skills are fine, can memorize and regurgitate pieces (like the Lord's Prayer) But he cannot put vocabulary words and definitions together either verbally or written (word bank type test). Orally, he comes out with something that makes no sense in the context of the vocab. Written, he just mixes up the entire lot of words. That's not the end of the world, but she wonders if it is indicative of some bigger processing type disorder. Any insight?
  13. We downloaded the iPad app Dinosaur Chess this week to help DS10 and I learn the moving capabilities of various pieces. We haven't used it enough to comment on it's helpfulness yet. (And your kids may be beyond it already, but maybe others will find it useful.) Candy Corn Chess sounds like fun!
  14. It's hard. My dad married his lady friend yesterday (my mom died 4yrs ago). I congratulated him (over the phone - we are 1200 miles apart), hung up, and proceeded to cry. He's happy, taking care of himself (73yo), and living life - all good things. It's just hard. I know that Wendy ^^^ is right though. It's not about me, and I don't want him to be lonely. Best wishes to your dh during this time.
  15. I do not give grades for one simple reason: we don't move on until he's mastered the skill. He's using TT4, which does give grades, but if that grade is less than 90, we remediate until the skill is solid. (We are not required to keep records.)
  16. You are so very very lucky to have insurance for your HAs! If our house back home ever sells, I will get an aid for my bad ear. I'd love for it be lilac too!
  17. To help keep them out of beds, don't use bed skirts, don't push bed against floor-length curtains. Unless they are those vertical climbing suckers mentioned above. Yikes!
  18. I am terrible with follow-through, but this would be a great thing to break the curse. We are in!
