  1. If you need soft foods for post-wisdom teeth removal, we found that chilled foods were best for the first day. My kiddo could tell where in the mouth the chilled food was. Due to the numbness, body-temperature foods were hard to eat because it was difficult to tell where in the mouth they were.
  2. I don't get the email notifications of purchases until a couple of days later so if that is typical then it doesn't help. I agree with the other poster - contact iTunes customer service.
  3. We don't have pedestrian hybrid traffic lights. They seem like they would be very confusing for drivers. If an entire brochure is needed to explain how to use them... yeah, confusing. We have cyclist signals and pedestrian-only signals at a few intersections. The cycle/ped symbols turn green or white, while the overhead lights for vehicles stay red.
  4. I vote choice 3 if you are not in a hurry, or choice 1 if you want the scarf sooner (looks like same scarf but different prices/shipping choices).
  5. It might take off, 'cause Erik Estrada is the town's media spokesman.
  6. :smilielol5: FINISHED? Are you kidding? So far I have bought: a couple of stocking stuffers one present for one kid
  7. To me, long would be more than 8 miles on terrain that has more than gradual elevation change. Or 5 miles on terrain that gains 1400+ feet per mile; it just takes FOREVER because it's so steep, both uphill and downhill. Or 8 miles on the flat with little kids, and you know you still have to drive 2 hours afterwards to get home.
  8. 20+ years ago, a friend of mine had the idea that we should take my very friendly cat to visit a nursing home as a therapy cat. Of course, we did clear this with the nursing home first! Many of the residents were so delighted to see and pet kitty. Unfortunately, kitty was not so cooperative; he wanted to explore rather than be fawned over. So we visited just the one time.
  9. My kids are teens and I still make Cranberry Thanksgiving bread almost every year (missed for the first time last year). I bought the cranberries last week. :) Some years I make a regular size loaf; other years I make 3 mini loaves. Once I made muffins and that worked fine too. I am thankful for the easy availability of gluten-free flour; the bread turns out great.
  10. I would say The Martian, except you requested no sci-fi (it's more tech than sci-fi IMO, but the library label on the spine says SCI-FI). I could not put it down, read it in one day saying "Go away!" to anyone who tried to interrupt me. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah was another book I couldn't put down. So, so good. And definitely not sci-fi.
  11. Word for word, this is my situation exactly.
  12. I never thought of this. My kids don't like to play Forbidden Desert or Pandemic. I'm going to try your suggestion.
  13. Gravity Maze is fun. So is PathWords. And I'll add my "yes" vote to the Rush Hour camp. It has additional card decks available too.
  14. I haven't heard of any of the brands you mentioned. Have you googled to find reviews? Some reputable beginner trombone brands are Yamaha and Olds (Olds are no longer made). If your kids will be joining a homeschool band program, you might be able to buy a quality used instrument from a family whose kid has moved up to a higher-end model, or who no longer plays. The band director should be able to help you find a suitable instrument. If your child will be taking private lessons, ask the teacher for instrument recommendations. With musical instruments, you often get what you pay for. Low-quality instruments may be hard to keep in tune, or may not be repairable if they get damaged. For a trombone, a very smooth slide is important. Neither of my kids are trumpeters so I can't address what to look for in that instrument. Also, I personally wouldn't buy a serious musical instrument without having the player try it out in person before buying. This may be difficult if the child doesn't play well yet. In that case, his/her teacher can help with the test playing.
  15. I'm turning this "essay" into an English assignment. First I'll have my kid edit it so that it will be well-written. Then my kid will re-write it to give the opposite point of view.
  16. Yeah, those location names. Butte Boring Flushing Index (I have never known a kid with any of these names... just throwing them out there as possibilities one of my dc came up with. Another other dc suggested the spelling Bute, after the horse med...)
  17. One of my teens always wears a watch, and has done so since some point in elementary school. I don't remember, though, if my child requested the first watch or if it was a surprise gift.
  18. We did something similar: started with a 30, housing prices then jumped so we refinanced a year later to get rid of PMI, then a couple of years after that rates dropped and we refinanced again to a 15 year. It's almost paid off, just in time for the monthly payment amount to go toward college tuition.
  19. Well, you could take a bus if you miss the train. It probably won't be as fast, and it might not go directly from your downtown office to the Edmonds train station, but it should get you somewhere reasonably close to your destination even if you do have to transfer or walk a bit. Or maybe get a ride home from the park & ride.
  20. I would look at the ease of getting to other places you might need/want to go. Sounds like the grandparents are not on the west side of the Sound, so that would be ferry or bridge or long drive every time you want to visit (assuming you want to visit regularly). Would you live walking distance to the ferry/train? And is dh's office within walking distance from the downtown terminals? Otherwise you are also looking at adding car/bus to the trip. Are Edmonds or Bremerton your only two options?
  21. If you are looking for a futon that you will sleep on every night, you might consider going to a futon store or to a futon maker. We bought our futon from guy who ran his own futon-making business. The price was good and the quality has lasted almost 20 years of nightly use.
  22. never mind... redsquirrel answered while I was typing...
  23. Thanks for sharing! I'm always on the hunt for new gf recipes.
