  1. Be careful! I married the first man whose mom had a stocking for me! We do Christmas at MIL's house, and everyone who is going to be there for present opening gets a stocking, adults included. We're going to have at least 10 people (7 adults) over for Christmas this year, but every single one of them will have a stocking, I'm sure.
  2. There is an open source (read:free) program called GIMP you can use. It's fairly easy to use, but it does have a learning curve. Basically, you need a picture of them on a plain background, and they need to have their hair back (so it's not wispy or anything). There should be tutorials on how to do this in GIMP or Photoshop. The process will be about the same.
  3. Regarding the magazine sales: http://www.portlandonline.com/police/index.cfm?a=150437&c=41850 and http://www.magcrew.com/ It's a really bad situation that most of these kids can't get out of on their own, but I'd be too afraid to help much- most of them are desperate and often have addictions. It's all around bad, so I don't answer my door for people unless I can see exterminator gear in their hands. (Renter- I never know when they're going to come.)
  4. I just looked at the Movember site, and it looks like something DH would do. His beard is already ridiculous, though, so I can't imagine another month's growth on top of it.
  5. DH usually looks like a mountain man out of sheer laziness. I told him No Shave November is some hipster thing, and he's shaving this weekend.
  6. We are an atheist family, and we celebrate Christmas at MIL's house. Most of our family are Christians, but the holiday itself is fairly secular at her house. We do presents, junk food, looking for lights, and all that stuff. It was funny, though- last year DD (not quite 3 at the time) found MIL's nativity set. MIL explained what all the pieces are, and DD decided baby Jesus needed to go potty in the well. Repeatedly. He also slept in the food trough.
  7. I call him Daddy or Mister (or Mr. Pants). He calls me Momma. Even in public, though I try not to, because it is kind of weird. I figure we have a few years before it's really strange (DD is 3 and we're getting another one in April), but by that point it will be such a habit we won't care.
  8. Remember that the apartments being rented doesn't mean the people are paying rent. It takes a while to evict someone, and that has legal costs associated with it. My landlord owns a huge number of apartments and rental houses in our town. Our rent is less than $600 a month, and our former neighbor was at least $2000 behind on her rent. By the end of it, our landlord accepted labor in trade for rent- that was the only way he could recoup some of his money. Also consider how long a tenant may stay- in our area, most places are rented by semester (college town). If you have a run of bad tenants, it's possible you would have to replace the carpet, appliances, and repaint every few months. It's not uncommon for a place here to stay vacant all summer. In fact, two of the rentals next to us were vacant for at least two months each. Sorry I can't be more positive, but as far as I can tell, this isn't really a business you can make money on from the beginning.
  9. This afternoon DD found an apple core she had hidden and proudly declared "It's decaved!" (decayed), which was actually on today's episode of Sid. I couldn't even be mad about the apple.
  10. Ovulation typically occurs 2 weeks after the LMP. If you ovulate at the typical time, you would conceive right now. (Like, today). There would be no detectable level of pregnancy hormones till at least a week from now, most likely two weeks. :001_unsure: Granted, it is possible that your last period wasn't real, and you may be. The only way to know is to test. I would recommend getting a few dollar store tests and taking them over the next few weeks, at least until you get your period again (if you do).
  11. I'm 14 weeks right now, and I have done basically nothing educational for the past two months. Like WendyK said, the only thing I like is sleep. In fact, I think it's naptime now.
  12. After this baby is born (in April), DH is getting a vasectomy if we can find a doctor that will do it on someone his age. He'll be 28, I'll be 25. There are a lot of factors going in to our decision- our insurance is terrible and wouldn't cover an IUD or any complications from an IUD. (So, if I had to get one surgically removed, we would have to pay for that out of pocket.) Sterilization is much easier on a man than on a woman, and that was a huge deciding factor. My mom actually offered to help us pay for the vasectomy, though. :D
  13. DH took a sleeping pill an hour before my water unexpectedly broke. Bad idea.
  14. I considered him my best friend. He did not. Now (after 6 years together/4 years married) we would consider each other our best friends. We got married at 21/23 and have definitely grown up together. I will say, we are very compatible. I truly think we grew in to people that fit together perfectly.
  15. We went this past summer, and DD (3) stayed with her grandma in the dr. seuss themed area the entire time. There is very little for really young kids to do there. The height requirements for two of the rides is at least 40 inches, and the other one is 36, but DD was too afraid to try. Universal is really awesome for big kids and teenagers. Not little kids.
  16. I really like the bolded idea. I think having a predictable menu is a really good thing, that way people can eat at home if they have special dietary needs. You could rotate between pizza, pasta, chili, hoagies, soup/salad, and probably a ton of other meals I'm forgetting.
  17. I'm 13 weeks and I still feel like poop. I hope it feels better for both of us soon.
  18. DH and I will be paying back loans for a very very long time. I don't want to saddle my kids with that kind of debt when they are just starting out. If we are able to help them pay for college, I want to. Not because they deserve it or earned it, but to help them.
  19. DH and I are like this too. He likes the snooze and can sleep through anything...except me kicking him until he gets out of bed. I'm now responsible for being the alarm clock. But, it does make me feel better to kick him for waking me up early.
  20. DH is left handed, and DD is left handed. DH uses right handed scissors in his right hand, but he guides the paper with his left hand instead of moving the scissors.
  21. I'd say if you are paying their rent/utilities, you have some say. If not, then no. Though, I do have to warn you, things could very well happen behind your back. Case in point: When DH was an undergraduate, his best friend was his dorm roommate on paper. In reality, he lived with his girlfriend. Her parents paid the rent, so whenever they came to visit, he would hide all his clothes and sleep in the dorm room.
  22. I love my zofran. I called in the first time, saying I was really nauseous, and they gave me 30 pills (to be taken every 3-4 hours as needed). When I went back for my next appointment, I mentioned they really helped, but I was running low, and she gave me a prescription for 20 pills with 2 refills. No hassle at all, and it helps me feel like a person again.
  23. My DH has had a lot of issues with depression and a few other things, so I've had quite a bit of experience with this. I've had to remind him that we are a team and his burdens are my burdens, too. We have to shoulder these things together, and I can't work towards the same goal as him if I don't know what it is.
  24. I live in Mississippi, and most of the things I order come from Kentucky. I'm very pleased when something gets here in two days.
