  1. We just celebrated 6 years together after a very rocky start. We heard the baby's heartbeat. (I'm now 10 weeks pregnant.) DD learned how to clean up her toys in the living room by herself.
  2. I'm fairly quick to make a verbal apology. I'm likely to say something like "I'm sorry I snapped at you. I guess I'm kind of cranky today," even if the only reason I'm saying it is to stop the conflict. It works in our house. Dh doesn't apologize very often, but he is quick to change behavior. It's good enough for me.
  3. I think he may need a different antibiotic, too. Anytime I have to get dental work (which is far too often), my dentist gives me Tylenol 3. I try not to take them if I don't have to, though. After one root canal I wasn't careful enough about taking them and I ended up having withdrawal-type symptoms.
  4. Put a five gallon bucket on the floor with a long piece of cardboard or something going up to it like a ladder. Put a bunch of bedding in the bottom with a very full bowl of food and a water bottle taped to the inside. Make tiny notches in the cardboard and put treats in it, like sunflower seeds. Hopefully the hamster will find it and get in there, but not be able to get out.
  5. Also, a gun can't be properly sterilized. They can wipe down the outside with a lysol wipe, but they can't clean the inside. Please read this before you decide to take her to a mall store for it: http://tattoo.about.com/cs/psafety/a/piercing_guns.htm ETA: I've had piercings go wrong. It's not pretty. You can minimize that risk by going to a professional. And tattoo shops aren't really that scary, especially if you go earlier in the day. There may be some bOOks on the wall, but that's a small price to pay for having a quality piercing.
  6. Needle. A piercing needle looks like this: http://www.razorbladeproducts.com/xcart/files/images/NDL-ST-single_sm.jpg This kind of needle goes through the flesh leaving very little trauma. A gun uses a slightly pointy pair of earrings. It displaces all the flesh and results in quite a bit of trauma. Go to a tattoo shop/piercing parlor. Never let someone near you with a piercing gun.
  7. My (then) 2 year old and I sat my friend's 2 year old during the day last year. Twice a week, I was there when her 12 year old came home from school. It ended up being 15-20 hours a week, and I charged her $5 an hour. BUT, the youngest girl was/is my daughter's best friend, and my husband and I are close to the family. I knew the family could not afford to pay more than that, and many weeks, even that was a stretch. All that said, $5 is not enough unless you are doing a HUGE favor for a very good friend. If I had cared about the money, it would not have been worth it.
  8. Ms. Savannah. It doesn't bother me when the kids forget the Ms. My mom always wanted my friends to call her Ms. Christie, but very close friends/boyfriends called her Christie.
  9. This is based on my experience in school. It may not be the same as everyone else's experience, though.
  10. We live 90 miles away, but it is about an hour and forty five minutes drive. My inlaws and my mother live in the same town (the town DH and I grew up in).
  11. When I was 18, a friend of mine was driving my car (which was ok'd by my mom) and fell asleep at the wheel. It ended up being a very bloody, very painful accident for me and the two friends in the car. My mom had bought that car for me, but I had to pay her back for the replacement car. Don't be too hard on her. Being inside a car while it get totaled is punishment enough. Edited to add: I have never had an accident (where I was driving) moving more than 5 miles an hour. I hit my fair share of garbage cans while backing out, but other than that, nothing. Being in the accident made me a much more aware driver.
  12. I would pack up all of our stuff, put whatever we need in storage, and move in with my mother. Once everything settled down, I would attempt night classes to get some sort of career training- hair cutting (worst case) or a two year nursing degree (best case). My mother would let us live there as long as we need to, but we don't get along very well (too similar). We have no assets, essentially. We're under thirty and DH is still in school, so that's not really surprising. The only debt we have is his student loans. DD is three, and there's a mystery baby due in April. It would be nearly impossible to deal with it.
  13. You're scaring me. I'm not quite 6 weeks pregnant and my 3 year old keeps telling me about the brother AND sister in my tummy.
  14. My 3 and a half year old daughter mostly wipes herself. I occasionally have to remind her, but her undies stay clean more often than not.
  15. Secular Humanist. Atheist just doesn't define how I think/feel well enough.
  16. My OB/GYN (in Mississippi) gets people in around 6 weeks for blood work and a pap smear, then 8 weeks for a dating ultrasound. My OB/GYN is the only doctor I see on a regular basis.
  17. When I worked, DH and I kept separate accounts. For simplicity's sake, here is a (fictional) breakdown of a typical month: My pay: 1300 His pay: 900 I would pay: Rent: 500 My gas: 200 My phone: 50 Fast food: 100 (I commuted and was not home for meals often) DD's things: 100 (toys, clothes, extra bottles, etc) Mine and DD's medical bills: 150 Total: 1,100 Remainder: 200 He would pay: Electric: 150 Groceries: 350 His phone: 50 Cable: 50 Total: 600 Remainder: 300 When we went out for dinners or anything, he would pay, since he typically had a bit more money left over after paying all of his responsibilities. We kept separate accounts so we wouldn't have to balance our checkbooks against each other, though we would always consult each other before making a large purchase. Even now, though I don't work, we maintain separate accounts for the same reason. When I need money, I write myself a check from his account and deposit it into my account. All of our bills are auto-drafted out of his account. We may end up combining now since he no longer has free checking, though.
  18. I have 60 something hours, but I dropped out. DH just completed his masters.
  19. Is he losing hair on his belly and legs? If so, that could just be a sign of middle/old age. Hamsters have pretty short lifespans, and they start going bald about halfway through.
  20. I have three. I got all of them when I was 18, so they are a little ridiculous. All of them are solid black/skin colored. First: a small star near my left hip. It would be covered in high rise undies, but shows in bikini cut. It is completely covered in any pants I wear in public. Second: a *ahem* lower back tattoo of what DH affectionately calls "a heart with antlers." It's a tribal-inspired stylized heart. It's just as trampy as the location implies. Fortunately, it's up a bit higher than a traditional one, so it does not show in most clothes. Third: a stylized phoenix surrounded in flames in between my shoulder blades. It's not as pretty as I would like it to be. It is the only one that shows, but only if I am wearing a tank top or bathing suit (which isn't very often in public). I'm not particularly attached to any of them, though the star is my favorite. Though, after having a kid, I don't get to see it as much as I would like :glare:. DH is in the process of covering two tattoos on his forearms. My advice: unless you are absolutely certain of what you want, wait. Don't get something so personal that you don't want to explain it to everyone you meet, or, if you do, get it somewhere that won't show all the time.
  21. Most of the statistics I've seen count the amount of time the tv is on and someone is in the room, not necessarily actively watching. By their methods, I watched 3 episodes of Go Diego Go this morning while I was sleeping. We limit tv pretty harshly while DD is awake (except in the mornings - she gets up way too early), but we still end up with 4 or 5 hours a day. Total screen time is much higher considering the totals usually double up - for example - if you have the tv on for an hour while you use your computer, it would count as 2 hours of screen time.
  22. http://www.reddit.com/r/homeschool/ It's Reddit, but there may be more guys there than girls. I don't think it's terribly active, though.
