  1. Yep, that's it. Since they're not a "600" school, you're still legally a homeschooler. For Bright Futures, they base it on the ACT/SAT scores & the volunteer hours. Call Beverly at the homeschool office & she can give you the low-down. Or you can call the NARHS office in Melbourne @ (813) 676-7600.
  2. We didn't have the option of outsourcing except on-line, ps, & dual enrollment. Dd#1 took 1.5 credits on-line (FLVS)--Spanish I & Business Tech. She took full load @ the cc so finished her AA @ 18. Both were free except for books at the cc. Dd#2 took full load @ cc finishing w/58 credits. Again, free except books.
  3. "Ooo, fleas on rats" will be stuck in my head for hours!! I'll add
  4. :iagree:My cousin is a head-hunter for medical placements & she can't even send in a resume for a sales job unless they have a 4yr degree.
  5. While I agree it is gross, it probably won't kill him (although you might! :o) There were the times when you took a bath on Saturday night only, whether you needed it or not.
  6. I'd be leery of the for-profit art institutes. If you find that thread about the college loan racket, they're in the top offenders. As to majoring in photography, are you talking weddings or news? We have an acquaintance that was with TIME (as in some type of exec) in Asia. He discouraged #2 from majoring in photo as everyone now has a camera on them (phones) that take decent shots. As an example, he told us that the cover of TIME that month (last year) was from somebody who was at the right place & got a great shot of the event. He had a friend who was the TIME photog. in the UK during Thatcher & now can only make $$ from his library of shots--not new stuff.
  7. OP requested it due to concerns that if dd stays at said U, the problems posted may harm her scholarships.
  8. If you'd like to see some pictures (a whole history magazine) of what it was like just 90 miles from Havana, check out this pdf of the Key West History Magazine.
  9. Men's shirts, check sports stores too (like Champs) since they have things for tall guys.
  10. :iagree: Plus, I don't see how the housing market can recover until the jobs market does. Given the general economy, I wouldn't take on additional debt now.
  11. My roommate freshman year was a deaf ed major @ UT-Knoxville. The TN school for the deaf is there.

  13. Start with Focus on the Family The book "A Child is Born: Photographs of the Fetus" is good too. Not pro anything, but a realistic look at what's happening in there.
  14. When I started wanting to read more classic lit (as a teen) I looked at what had they made movies of (esp. in the 1940's & before). I loved the Bronte sisters' novels (being an overly romantic teen), but didn't find Jane Austen until an adult. If she likes adventure stories, King Solomon's Mines great, along w/books by Jules Verne, Rudyard Kipling, RL Stevenson. And don't forget Mark Twain!
  15. Ditto. The school #1 attended wanted everything electronically so it would not have mattered anyway. #2's U (FGCU since you're in-state), required it to be notarized (the only one of all our app for either girl) so a seal would have been extraneous there.
  16. Dd rode the Tri-rail a lot since we live 3hrs south of Miami. We could just take her to the station @ the Miami airport & she'd be back in her dorm before we got back home (WPB is about 2hrs north of Miami.) She liked PBA. Liked the availability of things like City Place, the county library, beach, Palm Beach & its festivals. . . You aren't stuck on campus, esp. when things are dead on campus. If she has questions, just pm me & I'll pass it on to her. As to staying on campus, I know she did a sleep-over that was an Open House weekend. She had friends that were signing up to host students. When she was there (Spring semester) she had an empty bed in her suite & had friends that did too. It is entirely possible they would have something set up for prospective students. If she's not coming alone, check PBA's web site for hotels w/special rates.
  17. For sports, there's always the 5k option. We have a runners club that has many weekly runs and about 1 5k/month. It would be easy to show progression in times from the finish sheets. I know in CO the 5k season is probably waning, but see about a local club to check the options.
  18. Dd#1 just graduated from PBA! Check the prices of flights into both Miami & Ft Lauderdale. She can then ride the Tri-Rail from either airport to W. Palm Bch. The station is about a mile from campus. From there it's easy for someone either to pick her up, or she can walk to campus. I agree in asking about staying on-campus. Seems logical she can combine the audition w/tours, etc.
  19. :iagree: That's what I've told both dd. I understand being so sick of school you can't see straight, but you will never be as unencumbered as now. Also, w/our state's scholarships, you have to use them w/in 3yrs of hs graduation or lose them. Big incentive there too.:D
  20. FYI: If you have netflix, I just saw this--unfortunately, it's only available on disk. Rocketbook: Pride & Prejudice
  21. Here's individual pix so you can place everyone!
  22. For us it was wonderful! In FL, the classes/fees are free, but homeschoolers have to cover the books. Huge savings regardless! As to the "freshman experience" quandary, I think a lot depends on the student. Some have difficulty adjusting to being on their own (either by going wild, or lazy) some take it all in stride. The cc classes may fend off some of that since they do have some idea of what they're getting into. Dd#1 completed her AA so that she only had to do 2yrs at the higher priced U. She's happy to be done w/her BA 2yrs before her peers too! That gives her time to pay off her loans (only 2yrs worth) & decide what she wants to do from here. She went to a private, in-state school & they accepted all her credits and she was eligible for all the freshman scholarships too. Dd#2 was just 2 classes shy of her AA. Since she decided to go for her BSN, she needs 9 pre-reqs before starting the nursing program proper. If she'd decided earlier, she would have taken the right sciences (Anatomy & Physiology instead of Astronomy) and could have applied directly to the program. If all goes to plan, she'll still finish a yr earlier than her peers. She's at a state school, full matriculation in FL, and they also considered her a First-time-in-college.
  23. The only one who can answer that is someone at the particular schools. Just like colleges, they're all different.
