  1. I am using Latina Christiana, and I find the pronunciation sounds EXTREMILY southern American. I change the pronunciation to Australian:D. I have no Idea what classical sounds like. but I find words like Herba, I need to say them with A strong H hike Harry, not a ER sound. etc. Just as well it isn't a spoken language, only Australians would be able to understand my Latin:lol:
  2. my grandmother is Gweneth, her mother was Aida. All of my children are named after relatives, except my daughter, she has her MIL's name as a middle name, Jutta just didn't appeal to me as a first name.
  3. I had 1 removed from my face a few months ago. the GP did it. I live in Australia where 1 in 3 people get skin cancer. I have had 3 moles removed so far. one on my back, one on my arm, and this one on my face. I find that I always have a scar. I asked the doctor that when he removed the one on my face, that could he make the scar look like I am smiling. and he did. so far all the moles have had something wrong with them, but not cancer. 4. I have long, straight , thin , fine hair. it goes past my waist. I have had it long all my life, and wear it in a braid down my back. It took me years to grow it that long.
  5. I would say that country libraries are pathetic.:glare: I can't speak for the Darwin library though. I buy all the books that I need.I I have given up on the library . books are almost double the price that is listed in America. there is no where the number of homeschoolers in Australia , so it can be hard to find people that have the same schooling philosophy. there are a few American homeschoolers in Alice Springs. which is in the same State as Darwin. Darwin is very humid., and very hot. I hope you enjoy your time in Australia. we are very friendly.;) MelissaL
  6. if you have lots of frozen casserole, and you pack it tightly into your cooler, and then put woollen blankets over the top of that,. it will keep frozen you won't need ice. MelissaL
  7. are you talking about on your face? I got this, each pregnancy was worse than the one before. it fades after having the baby. I have a pretty mottley face, I don't worry much about it. it is just me. I don't get much time to look in a mirror. in fact I make sure that when I look in the mirror I only look at my hair. What I don't see doesn't bother me:D MelissaL

  9. after the' I do it', then the 'no', then the 'I can't do it', it seems to be followed by the 'what can I do????' stage MelissaL
  10. hi, I cannot spell at all. I have mild "dyslexia." I am so bad at spelling that I cannot recognize spelling mistakes in my children's work!! MelissaL
  11. we have just finished planting our winter garden. the garden is full of brassica seedlings,' cabbage , broccoli, cauliflower. lettuce, radish, garlic, peas, the green house has potatoes, sweet potato, tomato, capsicum, and cauliflower in it. the only thing left to plant is the onion seeds, but I can't plant them until June, they get planted on the shortest day of the year. 12. I have lent curriculum, and it is always awkward asking for it back. I have now bought a second WTM book to lend to people , so I don't have to lend mine. I live in an area with only unschoolers, and I am trying to convert them all:001_smile:
  13. we did a Greek day, I made pita bread. it was a little on the hard side.:glare: but looked very effective in a basket.:001_smile: lamb kebabs, Dried figs in a bowel, and lots of purple grapes. we invited lots of other homeschoolers, and they all brought Greek food. some of it was very interesting.;) it was a great day have fun MelissaL
  14. hi, My dh has multiple chemical sensitivities, and we CAN NOT wear any deodorant! my husband is so sensitive he is on a sickness pension. my 14 year old son has BO:tongue_smilie:. we all have daily showers, and clean clothes every day. :D. this cuts the smell down . apart from that, we smell . MelissaL
  15. I had to bed rest for 10 weeks with my last pregnancy. not for veins, but for spotting. I had 4 children. I mostly lay in bed. I got up to prepare meals, light housework etc. but spent most of the time in bed. I would take books , craft things etc. to bed, and work through them with my children, it was all worth it when I had a nice healthy baby.:001_smile: MelissaL
  16. I wonder how many kids will have lollipops by the end of the month.??? MelissaL
  17. my mum fostered my sisters children for 6 months, she didn't like their names, so gave them nicknames that had no resemblance with their real names, the children are young, 1, 2 and 5. they loved it, and had no problem with both names, they weren't confused at all, and respond to both names. though the 5 year old told me he really has a real name. MelissaL
  18. I order my curriculum 6 months ahead. I have found it can take 3-4 months to actually receive the books after ordering. if I see something secondhand, I will buy it even if I don't need it for a few years. I have Saxon math all the way to advanced that I picked up secondhand. 3 years ahead of when I need it. MelissaL
  19. The way I am using them is; we do 2-4 pages twice a week. my son and I sit and I read the book, he answers the questions, we do it all orally, with no written work at all. it takes maybe 15 minutes. he enjoys it, especially as he doesn' t have to write anything. He is definitely learning heaps, he is pulling me up all the time for how illogical I am:001_smile:. He is also noticing that logic compliments his grammar, Latin, and German studies. ;) MelissaL
  20. what about getting some geese. they are very noisy, they always make a lot of noise when anything unusual happens. and lots of people are terrified of them. MelissaL
