  1. Our family photo with everyone - 4 generations - we had each family in a different color shirt with black pants. We wore black and white, my bil and his family wore purple, mil and fil wore lime green and grandparents wore yellow. It turned out really nice. Sounds terrible, but it all looks great on camera!
  2. Haven't read through the whole thread but this rang a few bells for me. My grandpa is a very generous and very wealthy man. His method of giving was that it isn't sacrificial til you can't take it as a tax deduction anymore. He believes strongly in sacrificial giving.
  3. I haven't read through the whole thread. I do think family history is fascinating and I love researching my ancestry. Just a thought here - in England how long after the battle of Hastings did it take for the distinction between Norman and Saxon to fade? I would imagine that even 200 year later there were still distinctions made. Not to mention differences between Britons and Saxons, etc. It may seem more homogeneous now, but its been almost 1000 years. How long has it been since Scotland was independant? When I was in England several years ago my bus driver was pretty rabid about NOT being English - he was from Scotland, not England and ne'er the twain shall meet!
  4. So the president can change the requirements of the law but Congress can't discuss the exact same thing for individuals? How does it *not* undermine the law to have it selectively applied?
  5. [quote name="redsquirrel" post="5234335" timestamp="1380935 And, this isn't a 'moral high ground' issue. That isn't what is at risk here. The 'moral high ground' can take care of itself. The very idea of claiming or occupying a 'high ground' is part of the problem. This is about having respect for the legislative process. Either we have one and we follow it, or we don't. Sometimes you are happy with the outcome and sometimes you aren't, but we can't have a small faction changing the rules to suit their needs at the expense of the larger process. How can we as a law abiding country allow that to stand? How can we allow it to have any positive outcome for any faction? We will only have to go through this again and again every time any faction is unhappy with something or wants to take a philosophical stand against something. But hasn't the president already shown disrespect of the process by changing the law to allow businesses and unions a delay in implementing the law? Last I checked the law had to be changed by legislative process, not by presidential decree. The latest CR sent to the Senate didn't defund the ACA, but asked for a delay in the individual mandate. The exact same thing that's already been approved for businesses and unions. If the president can unilaterally do one, why can't Congress demand the same for the rest of the population? And why shouldn't Congress and their staff have to deal with the ACA? I don't understand why that is a sticking point for anyone in Washington.
  6. We bought the game the day it came out and returned it that same day. If you want multiplayer for anything other that. The toybox you have to have the characters from the same movie. We spent $90 buying the game but would have had to spend more for the kids to play together on anything other than the toybox. There are too many good games out there to spend that kind of money, IMO. We bought Rayman Legends instead and have enjoyed utterly immensely.
  7. Just watched the premiere and really liked it! I love good shows!
  8. How funny! I just came across the recipe for habanero gold! That's almost identical to the recipe I use actually. And yes - we are all still coughing and snotting from boiling the habaneros. Nasty things!
  9. I am making habanero salsa for my husband. I would love to be able to give this as a gift and was wondering if it would be ok to can this using a water bath. The directions are for one batch and say to keep refrigerated. However, it's got habanero, carrots, onion, garlic, vinegar and lime juice. Seems like it should be ok. Any ideas?
  10. Sorry for typos - on my phone!
  11. Just a thought here - if you go to the eror urgent care and tell them you don't have an OB they may be able to get you an appt with another OB sooner. Completely different situation, but when I had a herniated disc in my neck the neurologists all had a 2-3 month wait. I as losing function in my arm daily, not to mention excruciating pain, they were able to call for me to get an appt.
  12. That argument makes me furious. That would mean God is deliberately misleading his believers. Which is the same thing as a lie. Nope - not the God I believe in.
  13. White wine is the other ingredient I'm mine that makes it delicious!!!!
  14. I bet its good. I have a recipe for pork loin with apple cream sauce that is divine. I'm pretty sure there are onions too. Really, really good!
  15. Did they dilate her eyes? I would definitely get a second opinion. It could be a surface issue - dry eyes can cause tremendously blurry vision. Taking allergy meds would exacerbate that.
  16. I'll bump this for you. I have a stubborn, perfectionist with anxiety disorder. She's 10. I never know if what I'm doing with her works or if I'm failing in a most spectacular way. Yes, writing and math are our big giant walls we run into - until she decides she's got it. There's a very good reason for my gray hairs. Hope someone has something that will inspire!
  17. We start at 9:30-10 on days we don't have outside classes. After noon on gym days. We are NOT morning people and pushing it earlier just ends up in grumpy people all the way around.
  18. I agree with everything above - we've moved 4 times in the last 5 years. We really play up the adventure. When we get somewhere new we find the things that are similar, that will make it feel like home. Then we go look for the cool things. Things we never would have been able to do or see before. We make it a point to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood and really work at making friends. The kids do keep in touch with old friends - I let them text on my phone or we set up Skype conversations. It is hard, but we are always excited to get to a new place. Who knows what you'll find or who you'll meet!
  19. I completely feel your pain! While the kids and I were visiting my brother in Germany, my son(also 2 at the time) managed to get into the bathroom medicine cabinet and into my mom's headache pills. She didn't know how many were in the bottle at that point - they are taken as needed. So off to the German emergency room we went. The name if the Med was fioricet. I didn't know what was in the pills, just that they were for headaches. So - the nurse had to call the American poison control to determine what meds DS had actually, possibly ingested. I now know its a barbituate (sp?), tylenol, and caffiene. So we got to hang out for about 4 hours. He was super sleepy but otherwise fine. I, on the other hand, needed one of those pills myself by the time we got home! If its any comfort DS is 7 now and we look back on that and laugh. A little hysterically, but it is a laugh.
  20. I take a bath every night with Epsom salt. I love the Dr. Teal lavender scented salts the very best. Or add a few drops of lavender essential oil. It makes a huge difference in my life.
  21. When we first got here dh was trying to contact the company commander to figure out where he needed to report that day. Autocorrect changed Capt. Bullock to Capt. Buttock. Dh is always so cautious - I don't think I've ever laughed so hard.
  22. The Arboretum at Dallas is spectacular in March. They have Dallas Blooms going on then - truly awe inspiring. Then head down to Austin (a couple of hours) and see the Capitol and museums, then down to San Antonio (a few more hours) and do the Riverwalk and see the Alamo.
  23. The best cure I have found is dish soap mixed with vinegar. I roasted and chopped 20# of chilis last year and honestly thought I'd have to chop my hands off when I was done. Just pour soap on your hands then fill them with vinegar. Rub, rub, rub -- and repeat as necessary.
  24. Several years ago I was in Albuquerque and saw a Tahoe with NY plates and a tumbleweed strapped to the luggage rack on top. I laughed for a good while about that. Imagine, wanting to KEEP a tumbleweed!
  25. We just moved to El Paso and *Everyone* uses the phrase 'stark beauty'. Just ftr that means a desolate, empty place. They are just trying to make it sound better.
