  1. I have a great spoon that came with my set of The Rock brand pot/pan set. I also really like my silicon with wood handle from Brandless.
  2. I didn't have the same effects with Metformin. It did not stop any cravings but it didn't cause any additional GI issues. I wish it helped with the cravings, quitting sweets was freaking hard and is still a daily battle. I mean I had an english muffin, egg, and avocado this morning, I was stuffed really, but I was still craving a donut.
  3.      You can also try "Fox Family Boot Camp" which is any extended stay at my mom's, where she works you to exhaustion and feeds you as little as possible. DD lost 10 pounds in the week she spent there last year. My mother also offers the kids a yearly "intensive" survival camping course. :glare:
  4. I had to have an emergency colonoscopy and the actual procedure was no big deal. The prep for it was a literal pain in the a$$ but if your's is planned you won't have to deal with all that.
  5. I'd pay her $10-$15 per hour. So add up 10-20 minutes (avg. 15 since it includes texting, walking back and forth etc...) x how many days you were gone (60 f0r example) plus the additional time spent on the plumbing issue. So about $150-$200 for the regular time plus an additional $10-? for the time spent waiting on the plumber. Graduation gift is separate.
  6. I'm pretty sure it starts when you begin the course not when you buy it. I do think you have a particular amount of time in which you must start it, thinking 12 months but not sure. There's an explanation on HSBC site that explains it I believe.
  7. Thinkwell is on sale again, up to 45% off :hurray: if enough people buy, of course :glare: .
  8. In our house the kids take turns unloading the dishwasher (I do all the loading). I do all the cooking but there are "fend for yourself" days and they do some cooking for themselves, but I still do all the kitchen clean up. Once a week I make them pick up the living room and general clean up. Then one of them cleans the main bathroom. This takes about 15-20 minutes. Someone (whoever is handy) folds the towels, probably every couple days. I have instituted a "clean room/vacuum" inspection once a week so I no longer have worry about what they might be growing in old dishes under their beds. DD takes care of the cat and everything to do with her. Otherwise I clean the rest of the house. When we lived in the bigger house (moved a month ago) it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and it still wouldn't be clean. Since we moved to the apartment, which is 1300 sq ft and 1/2 the size of the house, the amount of time spent cleaning is significantly less and the place is cleaner.... of course I still have boxes so we'll see how it goes once they're all unpacked. I think my biggest issue is that the kids, and DH are really bad about picking up after themselves. Like DC will make microwave popcorn and leave the little plastic bag on the counter by the sink when the trashcan is under the sink... :cursing:. It adds up and I spend a lot of time going around picking up little bits of stuff that, if they had taken care of at the time, would not have been so time consuming.
  9. Messy but not something I would flip over. If I can clean it up within 10 minutes I'm usually okay with leaving it for a bit.
  10. It is not unethical to accept an offer then change your mind, think about the ramifications if every one who said "sure that sounds doable" then had to do it no matter what. This is your life and future and I'm sorry but you have to be thinking of that first. It is expected, at least in DH's work sphere (Industrial maintenance/engineering) that if something better comes along (before first day of new job) a prospective employee will let you know what their new offer is and give you the opportunity to meet it or pass. As for the neighbor, I can't imagine a reasonable person would begrudge you better pay/hours/ promotions etc... Now I do think it matters if you've started the job and they've actually invested $$$ into training and such. But still you have to do what is best for you. Like PP said companies lay people off with little care or concern to how long they've been there or what their personal situation is.
  11. Love fruit breads, I even like my mom's fruit cake, which is very different from the stuff you buy in stores at Christmas time. DH and the kids think it's gross. Aldi's has Monkey bread and Apple Fritter loafs (both have raisins) and it's all I can do to not go buy more.
  12. Move to TN, winter has gone away. Spring and all of it's nose clogging, sore throat causing pollen has arrived. All the trees are in bloom.
  13. I don't believe in "souls" but I still use the term as long as it's in a non-religious way.
  14. I'd probably use most of it to buy real estate to rent out.... look into doing property management for others as well (huge rental market with high mark up potential in my area). I'd also probably use some of it to start a furniture refurbishing business, not that there's not plenty of that around but I like it and I think if I had the $$ I could be good at it.
  15. You had me at "entire job is working remotely from home". The saving on gas, eating out etc... pales in comparison to the free labor (drive time) you had been doing. On top of it you don't like the current job. I'd add in the drive time, getting ready to go, etc... to hours worked and see if that doesn't even out the pay a bit.
  16. I have solved this by calling it "soda pop". Now everyone is offended. Plus it took me awhile to realize what a buggy was.
  17. I'm from Southern Indiana but spent early years in the South and I fret about things all the time. My paternal extended family is very country with Southern roots and I know that's where I get it the term fret from.
  18. Kitchen, dishes first, then counters, floors can wait (although you could take a quick swipe at them to get the loose stuff up... there's always chips on my floor :glare: .) Laundry, just the washing and drying, save folding for when you need to sit. Pick one bathroom to clean, the other(s) can wait until later. For clutter I like to go through a room and put everything that does not belong where it is into a basket. Then sort later, this is another sitting job cause I make the kids go put the items up. Once the laundry is started, kitchen counters are clean and dishes are washing, clutter is basket-ed, bathroom is no longer a cesspool, then I go back and wipe down cabinets (quickly, not thoroughly, that is another day), sweep all main room floors, mop the kitchen. Then if I still have energy I fold laundry, sort clutter. Next day/week/whenever I would do all bathrooms and bedrooms.
  19. So yeah, that and being able to see/talk to parent and friend, etc. would make a difference. Really it comes down to the fact that they will be 18 soon and will do this stuff anyway, maybe even riskier behavior just to "show" me they can (I did when I moved out) I don't want that. Of course I'd probably try to talk them out of it at first because it terrifies me. I say this knowing that, in a few years, I will be crossing the bridge so to speak since all of DD's (she's 14.5 now) friends are online and live all over the US and Canada. She's known these kids for a year or more already. I've spoken to a couple of them and would of course have to do an extensive amount of planning with the parents but yeah, I think I will be okay with it.
  20. DD was like that until about 9/10 years old. Only going to her room did not calm her down and her fits could last hours. She didn't have them as often though. She's now a very mature mostly calm 14 y.o. who is quite capable of controlling her self. She has had some other issues, depression, anxiety, etc... but even that is finally starting to even out. We did figure out she had a gluten and dairy sensitivity and when her blood sugar gets low she is not someone anyone wants to be around.
  21. We LOVE Boca crumbles and I've replaced ground beef in all our meals without my family (including super carnivore extended family) even realizing. Gardien Porkless bites are kind of expensive but really good IF you cook them according to the directions.
  22. We hang them anyway and then when we move we spackle. I have yet to have anyone charge me extra even though the lease clearly states they will. If they do charge then you just lose part of your deposit, my deposit on our new place was $300, last place was $1775. So it can vary what you're risking.
  23. Swearing around kids, not an issue for me. Swearing at them in person or even just berating them in an online post for everyone to see is unacceptable. I'd anonymously write an email or letter, maybe call the principal or who ever is in charge and complain. If that didn't work then I'd do what Katy says and go nuclear on their a$$. ;)
  24. In our last house (we moved a week ago) the kids had their own bathrooms and since they were en suite I never saw them, probably better that way. In the apartment we only have 2 bathrooms and they have to share the main one with guests so I'm really not sure how it's going to work. I think I'll do a general pick up/wipe down every day or so and have them take turns deep cleaning once week.
