  1. DH has worn Red Wings for over 20 years. He will not buy anything else. I think he buys a pair every 2 years.
  2. We have breakfast for supper once a month. It usually consists of pancakes and bacon. Sometimes I'll make biscuits and gravy. Every once in a while, I'll break out the waffle iron.
  3. :iagree: I have used cast iron on my glass top stove for several years and I've never had a problem. I make sure I set the pan gently on the stove and don't scoot it around.
  4. We just finished AWOA, and loved it. Did you order the Little Adventurer Supplements? I thought they were well worth the money, but I think only the first four are available. Have Fun!
  5. My DH always gets me something. His mother passed away while I was pregnant with our oldest, so he is always sentimental on Mother's Day. The first year he got me a beautiful sapphire ring, but I usually get stuff the family can enjoy together. Last year he got me flowers to plant in the garden. I would have bought the flowers anyway, but I appreciated the fact that he took the girls and they picked out the flowers together. When we get home from church, he usually grills something for lunch.
  6. We love Bob Jones Math. I read somewhere (wish I could remember where) that their approach was spiral mastery. So I guess it includes the best of both worlds.
  7. We do it, but DH has had the same job for 21 years. If he was just starting out, it would be difficult to make it. In fact, he makes more than most white collar professionals in our area. We live in a rural, very farm oriented area, and DH works in the agricultural field. We are completely debt free, don't have a lot of extras, and we always have a little bit of money left over at the end of month.
  8. The chocolate should re-harden unless you added something to it. If you melted straight chocolate chips, then you should be OK. You could try throwing your candy in the fridge. I typically use bars of baking chocolate for stuff like this, so I could be totally wrong.
  9. We have between 2 or 3 at at time. Never more than three.
  10. I agree with all the others. I always send disposable dishes. I would probably attempt to get the dishes back for her, but I would not replace them.
  11. I don't think it's nuts at all. You can find VCR's for less than $10 at yard sales and thrift stores. I personally feels older ones last longer than new ones, anyway. Most of the videos in my library system are still VHS tapes. My own library has about 10 DVD's and tons of VHS tapes. Plus, I always come across old movies on VHS for a dollar or less at yard sales. So, for us, it's worth owning a VCR. However, we don't have a cassette player that actually works.
  12. I will be doing some school over the summer. Both my girls are on softball teams that travel, so softball will take up most of May, June, and early July. Bible school in July, and hopefully a short vacation in early September. We will also be doing lots of swimming.
  13. My favorite song is "East to West", but I love "Jesus, Friend of Sinners". Actually, I love most of their songs, but these are my two favorites.
  14. It is very religious, but the Bible portion can be omitted. But, if you omit Bible, you could lose a portion of the history as well. In the Ancient Egypt unit, ancient Egyptian history is interwoven with Biblical history. So, you could omit the Bible portion, and it would still work, but it would be omitting some of the "meat" of the ancient Egypt study. Currently, we are in the Middle Ages unit, and the Bible portion could be left out without really effecting anything else.
  15. I love Learning Adventures! We are currently using Volume I. I used FIAR several years ago, but I would say they are not very similar. Unlike FIAR, Learning Adventures include daily language, history, science activities. I have never used SOTW, but LA does encourage about 45 minutes per day of extra history reading, so it may fit. I don't think any extra activities from SOTW would be overkill. I do extra activities with LA and don't feel we are pressed for time. I know my answer isn't very precise, but I would be glad to answer any more questions.
  16. I have only bought or sold just a few things, but all my experiences have been good.
  17. I think it's OK if a seven year old still doesn't know the difference between and common and proper noun, so that I wouldn't worry about. If your 9 year olds are struggling to keep their handwriting neat, it may be because they are writing too much. Little hands get tired (big hands too:)). If you seven year old is still using phonics, then I would drop spelling and any formal writing. I like to wait until they can read fluently until I require any writing. I would also drop journal writing for all three. Personally, I am not a big fan of keeping a journal. I think journals are fine if your child wants to do it, but I wouldn't require it. I think another poster mentioned it can cement errors, which I agree with.
  18. DH worked 75 hours last week, so we're lucky if we even see him. He makes the money, and I spend it.:D He does mow the grass and makes breakfast on Sunday mornings. Plus, he is incredibly supportive. He works long hours in order for me to be able to stay home and raise our family. He's also really good at asking the girls what they learned each day.
  19. I never showed have opened this thread! It looks so fun and organized.
  20. This is what my sister did. She and my BIL sat at a sweetheart table, which is just a table for the bride and groom. Very sweet!
  21. I never leave the house with the washer or dryer running. The shut off valve on our old washing broke. Luckily I was home the first time it overflowed or we would have had a huge mess. I had to manually turn on and turn off the water until we could buy a new washer. Also, our dryer has been known to run all night. Something is wrong with the sensor. I know these are freak occurrences, but they both happened to me. Had I not been home, who knows what could have happened.
