  1. I'm sorry you are going through this. You are in a tough position as far as the house goes. My advice to you would be to seriously 'edit' what you share with your mother. I appreciate that you need someone to vent to but under the circumstances I don't think your mother is your best option. She isn't supportive and uses the information to make your situation more complicated. I hope you can find someone other than your mom who you can talk to that will be more supportive and a good listener. :grouphug:

  3. :thumbup1: You did the right thing. Our ortho lets us back in the treatment area so they are out there. Just keep looking. :)
  4. A long time ago my son had Molluscum Contagiosum and we were advised to use comfrey ointment. It is a herbal remedy. We had success with it but it is also possible that the illness just naturally disappeared after it ran its course. I do think the ointment seemed to help. We had to find it at a herbal shop.
  5. I don't think it is an allergy to carbs that I have. It is more like a sensitivity to wheat and a reaction to sugar. I feel a lot better when I limit/almost eliminate both. On a no carb/no sugar diet I feel the brain fog lifting within about 2 days and I can breathe easier. The joints don't hurt anymore either. I bake cakes so it is hard to not taste my product but I've learned to be careful with that too.
  6. We use the SAT. I get good information from the test results. I find that they are reassuring. We use the results to tweak our curriculum focus sometimes. We don't teach to the test but it is nice to know that the kids are doing well on the national tests and are familiar with taking them.
  7. I had all of mine memorize the math facts. It was a huge part of our early math routine. I found that it was very helpful when they were doing their more advanced math processes. It makes homework and drill go faster and minimizes simple math errors. It gives them an edge on the annual SAT test because they do not have to stop and think as much. They are allowed to use a calculator on the SAT but I personally do not allow it, so knowing their math facts is essential.
  8. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your message is so important. :grouphug:
  9. We never use the nitrous. We've found that the local is enough for most procedures. I had my wisdom teeth pulled with a local too. The nitrous actually kinda scares me.
  10. My pets react badly to the monthly treatments so since they are all indoor pets, we just make sure they are bathed, at least once a month for the dog (she also swims in the pool a lot). The cats all get full baths too. We've never had flea or tick problems. I'm very allergic to flea bites so I'd be the first to know. We're also careful to keep them away from any other pets that could have fleas too. The only time I do use a treatment is right after they are boarded for vacations. We only use Vet prescribed treatments too. The rest of the time, regular baths work for us.
  11. Is it for the pets or humans? I thought there was an antidote for humans already. I watched a show about exotic animals and one thing that stuck with me is that it would be a good thing to make sure you know which hospitals around you keep a supply of antivenums. It could save precious time if you are bitten.
  12. I like: Pennywise Learning Rainbow Resource Rock Solid Inc. and ChristianBook
  13. That is a great poem to memorize. Mine did that one a few years ago and we had a lot of fun with it. :thumbup1:
  14. We try to incorporate writing into our science and history. Classical writing (CW or IEW) lends itself to this sort of thing. We also try to study art to go along with the history we're studying.
  15. Awwww! I want a little leprechaun again! He is adorable and I love the pic of the clover on his little toes. :001_tt1:
  16. Definately! We want to see it. The kids like the Tim Burton movies and I like Johnny Depp. :)
  17. You could make sure you are carrying a large coffee or soda in one hand and something in the other. She probably won't want you to spill stuff on her so she won't hug. I don't like the huggy thing either.
  18. You are soooooo lucky!!!! That is an awesome opportunity!!!
  19. We do a our own type of workbox system. We have a weekly printout that has daily assignments detailed on it. No play or free time until the work is done.
  20. Sometimes a part of the label can come off when the can is opened. It can resemble what you're describing. Could it be that? (hoping...hoping)
  21. We used it from 3rd to 7th. Love it! Straightforward and challenging. Lots of drill-we like that.:001_smile:
  22. If she is not answering your emails then I would open a Paypal dispute. In a dispute, Paypal will acknowledge your problem and email the seller. If still no contact (I give a week), then go ahead and escalate to a claim. You can always cancel the claim if seller comes through. I wouldn't waste anymore time trying to contact her at this point. If you paid via credit card through Paypal, you should just call the cc company and back out the charge. I'd give her one more stern email to inform of intent to contact cc company though.
  23. Oh my! We used to have thousands in the first hs'ing years. I was book crazy. In the last few years I've systematically worked through and sold the books on Ebay. I'm down to 3 large bookshelves and working on getting those trimmed down. It is part of my declutter masterplan. :)
  24. :iagree: With a policy clearly posted, I'm afraid you are most likely out of luck. I hope you got some sort of verification that they owe you a credit?
  25. We loved it. Especially in conjunction with the interactive CD. We did it in Elementary. I think in your case it would be a nice place to start but for a 7th grader, I would consider supplementing with addl. reading, narration and unit study.
