  1. This!!! :iagree: I'm not going to answer a bunch of personal questions asked by a complete stranger. I don't even answer the door to strangers. Good luck to any Census taker that tries to interview me. As far as the $100 fine...again..good luck with that.
  2. Pearl is a whack-a-do. Reading that bizarro post of his just confirms it.
  3. Is she interested in cake decorating? My girls and I and another hs family took the Wilton courses (they are offered at Joann's and Michael's) this fall (there are 4 in all). It was fun to do it together and we all learned a lot.
  4. We got the hard copy but could have gotten the cd. There wasn't a huge amount to print out and we already had the elements poster.
  5. We had college mail from the PSAT year through the ACT and for like a year afterward. It was like a forest of paper! Get used to seeing tons of it. My son's friends went thorough the same thing. Those tests send the names to every college private and public. My son had already had his mind set on a school so it was a waste of paper.
  6. I would take him to the vet for an abdominal xray. Blockages can cause the vomiting you are describing. 8 is still a young adult cat age.
  7. Something similar was happening to our neighbor. They solved the problem by putting large decorative rocks in strategic places. Hitting that rock will damage the offenders vehicle so it solved the problem. Can you put something (tree, rocks, fence etc.) in the yard to block them?
  8. I do a lot of cake decorating and the recipe I have found works best is: I substitute the white cake mix for other flavors and you can use different flavor oils too. I use Duncan Hines mixes. White Almond Sour Cream Cake (WASC) Ingredients 2 boxes white cake mix 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups granulated sugar 1 1/2 teas. salt 8 egg whites 2 2/3 cups water 4 Tbls. vegetable oil 2 cups (16oz carton) sour cream 2 teaspoon clear vanilla flavor 2 teaspoons almond extract Instructions Mix all dry ingredients by hand using a whisk in a very large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees ***One recipe makes: one 14″ round + one 6″ round or one 16″ round or one 12″ round + one 10″ round or one 12×18″ sheet cake or one 12″ round + one 8″ round + one 6″ Half a recipe makes: two 8″ rounds or two 6″ rounds + 6 cupcakes
  9. We don't do breakfast. I found that mine aren't hungry when we get up (around 7am) so we've been doing a brunch. Usually sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 I make soup and sandwiches. Today I cooked up one of those frozen one skillet meals (super fast and easy) and the kids loved it. Then we do snack in the afternoon and then dinner.
  10. I think your SIL is making that nonsense up. I've hs'd 3 and they NEVER needed an 'adjustment' time for classroom situations. Nor have I observed that other homeschoolers need to 'adjust'. They very quickly adapt to what is expected. What I have observed is chaos if the teacher doesn't have a firm grasp of 'crowd control' and all the natives get restless. Sounds like you need to give SIL a reality check! Seriously...apparently SIL thinks there is some kind of 'learning curve' to sitting in a classroom. Maybe they should offer that as a separate course. "Classroom sitting".
  11. Ours does but I think we have to go in person to pick one up. Maybe they mail out of state but they made us come to the college to get ours.
  12. 1. Family 2. My good friends 3. My adorable pets 4. My computer 5. Coffee
  13. I have stopped sugar a couple of times and every time I've had a sugar withdrawal headache. There is some confusion about the state of ketosis. It isn't the same as ketoacidosis which can be a dangerous condition. Here is a link: http://www.cardiofiles.net/gary-taubes-about-ketosis-76326.html People think that the headache signifies they need sugar but that is the opposite. It is the body's adjustment to being without an overload of sugar (the sugar high). Eating sugar to stop the headache will set up a cycle of ups and downs. The book Sugar Shock explains the cycle really well and is very motivating. There are a lot of good reasons to cut out the sugar.
  14. Math-It! It is pricey and all you really need are the tricks so I'd search the net and see if you can find them somewhere before purchasing. If you do want to buy, I'd check Ebay for a good deal.
  15. I hope she stays safe. I have reservations about allowing a minor to embark on this kind of thing. I plan to keep an eye on her blog. Here's the story and link: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/22326011/detail.html MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- A 16-year-old has set out to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone. Abby Sunderland of Thousand Oaks sailed into the sunny Pacific Ocean on Saturday after being delayed a few days by a series of violent storms in California. Her boat-builder father, Laurence, along with other family members and fiends cheered at the Del Rey Yacht Club as they watched the 40-foot craft called Wild Eyes depart. She plans to be at sea for five or six months. She will be alone but able to communicate via satellite telephone and a blog (at abbysunderland.com). The current record holder is 17-year-old Mike Perham of Britain, who took the mark last year from Abby's then-17-year-old brother Zac. ___ Information from: Daily Breeze, http://www.dailybreeze.com
  16. I just ended an Ebay auction and did very well. I think this is a good time to sell since people are buying over spring and summer for next fall.
  17. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: It is good to write it out. Whatever you do, always wait a little while before you respond if you're upset. I wish I had some really good advice but this is a tough one. :(
  18. ABeka-Main Supplement with LOF & Dolciani. We do math everyday and never skip problems.
  19. We've always done standardized testing (SAT). Since we have to order the test from BJU I've also ordered their test prep materials which are helpful but average. This year we are doing the Spectrum test prep. The test review reminds the children about how to take the test and what to be aware for in terms of tricky questions etc. We'll also do a quick review of math. We have an iquest so they will pop in the history and science cartridge and do some review that way. We don't overdo it though because we don't want to make a big deal about it and stress the children.
  20. I always have something with me. Nowadays it is my Kindle. I love that thing!!
  21. One of our kitties is a naughty boy at night so he has a nice roost (cat tree) in the laundry room at night. There is a litterbox in there so he is fine. But he does wake us up early by scratching on occasion. He wasn't happy at first but we didn't give him a choice and now he has adjusted. The other kitties are good sleepers so two sleep in ds's room and one with dh and I.
  22. I'd do the shower thing. Be careful using iron to steam-hit the steam button and do it on a towel until you're sure you won't blow any off color steam onto the dress. I learned that the hard way once.
  23. We like to start early in the day so we make coffee or hot chocolate and start the day listening to our read-alouds for about an hour. After that, the girls get started on their work. It kinda eases us into the day.
  24. I've made a resume or two or three. I'm confused about the question too. If the OP needs help with making one, there are lots of templates on the net.
