  1. He loves coffee. It helps him to focus but not the anxiety . I never thought of adult strength supplements, maybe what I'm giving him just isn't enough to make a difference. He's very tall for his age, wears a 14 in pants. Thanks for mentioning it! My niece is getting ready to graduate from college as a nutritionist. I should send her an email. Thanks so much!
  2. Thanks for replying! The problem is, he won't go see a psychiatrist. It stresses him out to be forced to talk about his anxiety. He's a very private person. The medication thing is a double edged sword, I know. We just started him on the meds this fall. Until he started puberty, his ADHD was controlled with diet. Puberty....:scared: has changed everything for him. The good news is, his Dr says that once he gets through puberty, he should be able to go off the meds and only use dietary restrictions to manage the ADHD, since that's what worked before his hormones went psycho. Thanks again! It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this!
  3. Hi, Background information, this is my 12 y o. My son has ADHD w/ anxiety and is dyslexic. He is on Ritalin LA for the ADHD. However, the Dr refuses to give him anxiety meds. He wants my son to go to counseling, but my son refuses to go. He did go to counseling about 5 years ago for 6 months, it was torture for him to talk about his problems. Te counselor even said that he had made as much progress as he was going to and it wasn't worth making him go any more. He has a lot of visable anxiety/ anxiousness. Example. If he gets a math problem wrong, he will slap himself in the head, say he's stupid...all while looking off into space over my shoulder, and squinting his eyes like he's constipated. My question is. Has anyone tried Calm Child or Focus Factor Kids with any success? We just started them yesterday. I know it takes time to work. He also takes Omega 3 gummi vitamins and a regular gummi multi vitamin. Alternatively, should we look for a new Dr? We are moving this summer and will probably be moving too far away to go to our current Dr. Current Dr. is a pediatrician who deals with a lot of ADD/HD kids. Thanks!
  4. Congratulations! Will remember you and your little ones in my prayers.
  5. I just e-mailed Aquinas Learning. This is a copy and paste of her email to me. Currently we are offering directorships nationwide to a limited number. If you or anyone in your homeschool community would be interested in starting one in your area, let me know. Unfortunately, we don't have a published curriculum to sell. In about a year, once all three cycles are written, we will be offering online enrollments for those who can't find an Aquinas Learning Center in their area.
  6. I use Easy Grammar, the combined books. The teacher's page is on the left and the student's on the right. You are allowed to copy the student's page. I use a page protector with the left side cut off. Do you have any specific questions?
  7. I haven't ordered yet either. We use MUS but I'm seeing gaps. I'm thinking about ordering!
  8. I love it too! I use a Sterlite set that I had bought at Aldi's. I use the largest rectangle container from the set. I just leave one of the flaps unlocked, so it's not airtight. You can use a mixing bowl with plastic wrap on top. I've used a pot with a lid too. Also, I just saw at Sam's Club food safe buckets with lids. I believe it was 2 for $12. Kim

  10. I like Before Five In a Row. You don't have to buy the books, just borrow them from the library. You could also do something like the Letter of the Week curriculum ( free online). Keep it fun. Kim
  11. I use the Staples $25 off a $75 order coupon. I buy a case of paper and toner for my laser. This usually lasts me close to 2 years. This year, I bought 2 cases of paper because my dh prints a lot at home for work, so he can have his own case and leave mine alone! I also shop the back to school sales, primarily at Staples, pencils for a penny for 10 etc. I have quite the stockpile! I use a lot of free workbooks from online. My printing cost for a Spelling book for the year was 80 cents...I can't buy a workbook for 80 cents! I did give in and buy a pre-packaged curricula, only because of family circumstances, I couldn't plan this year. I actually miss sitting with my books and planning it all out.
  12. You ladies are so high tech! I have all of my books in banker's boxes, each box is labeled. Then, I have a spiral bound notebook with the contents of each box listed. I did it this way so that I can take the notebook with me to used curriculum sales. Kim
  13. St. Thomas Aquinas Classical Academy We have to have a name from K-12.
  14. I'm so sorry. I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug: Kim
  15. I'm sorry to have to tell you that my 12 yr old son is like this. He acts like he will never have money to spend again in his life. It drives me batty. My 4 yr old is also like this. What I now do is to have my child look in the Target or Toys r Us etc... catalog, decide beforehand what he wants....then I order it online! It's not as fun that way, but is less stressful for me. OR I let Daddy take them shopping!(:D ha ha ha ha evil laugh) !! Kim ETA I pick out two outfits, my children can pick from the one's I selected. I try to do this the night before at bath time.
  16. I loved the Boppy. My babies pulled the nursing cover's off, so I used a shawl. I'd wear it out as a shawl for me and wrap it around me while nursing. Congrats on your new baby! Kim
  17. We use Britannica on cdrom. We like it a lot. Kim
  18. I have my kids read aloud to me every single day, even my 12 yr old, for this very reason. On books.google.com you can find the McGuffey readers and the Elson readers. My kids read one lesson a day to me, I correct their pronunciations, diction etc. You can print the pages to see if you like it, then look for the books used on amazon or here. Of course, you can have hem read anything, but I prefer it to be phonics based. HTH, Kim
  19. The MOH coloring pages are a separate product. The MOH site has samples. I use the notebooking pages and we read the text. I have CAPD, so I don't do well with hearing and understanding things that I can't read myself. HTH, Kim
  20. Test drive them both. Why don't your print out samples of both, read them to your kids and see how they react to each? I do better with making a part of our regular day for a few days and see how it goes. Just a thought. Kim
  21. I know a lot of Catholics who use Story of the World, but we prefer Mystery of History. We are Catholic also. We are in Vol. 1 & will be starting Vol. 2 soon.I love the way Biblical people are treated as real people, because they are (to me). I think were we might have problems would be starting in Vol. 3, but I haven't gotten to it yet. i decided not to worry about it, I want my kids to have a balanced view of history, including non-Catholic points of view. HTH, Kim
