  1. Yesterday's Classics are on sale for $49.95 http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com/o/ci.php Enjoy! Kim
  2. Angela, No worries! Thanks for checking back. I looked it up on amazon...is it called flash kids? It looks pretty good for him. I really need to work on the written narrations and have him start reading aloud again. It sounds like you have a good plan in place. Kim P.S. I love your blog! My dh is from CT and I love it when we go up and visit. We're hoping to make it to the city in Dec, to see everything all done up for Christmas.
  3. I've bought it at Costco for the last few years. We've been very happy with it. It's a nice heavyweight paper and I think it's a good price for the size of the package. Kim
  4. Make sure your insurance company negotiates the bill. My husband just went to urgent care for cutting his finger. He had seven stitches. They charged $598.00:tongue_smilie: It's insanity! Kim
  5. I don't own any. I wear cami's because I have lumps in my b00k/armpit right where the strap sits. I own about 10 cami's.
  6. Would you mind sharing with me what workbooks you're using for your dyslexic child? My rising 8th grader is also dyslexic. We've been using Seton's workbooks and he just doesn't seem to be grasping/applying the spelling, grammar and vocabulary. I'm also planning to add in AO yr 7 and trying to find some hands on that isn't babyish for him. Thanks! Kim
  7. Your Welcome for the link. They usually have the sale a few times a year. I bought an e-reader and plan to purchase the set at the next sale. I do prefer paper books to e-books. However, the clutter is taking over my house. I have 3 bookcases full of school books AND 13 boxes under my bed of school books. Also, we like to go to the park on nice days to let my little one play. It's nice to be able to grab the e-reader and head out instead of hunting all over the house for the books. Kim
  8. :grouphug::grouphug: It sounds like you had a hard day. Even though we have a smaller family than you do, we've had similar days. We instituted natural consequences and it has made a huge change in our family. First, I post a chore chart and everyone goes over it at a family meeting to make sure that everyone knows what they are expected to do. Second, comes the natural consequence of your actions. Here are some examples. You didn't feed the animal? Well, our breakfast time is from _ to _. If you don't feed the animal and return to the kitchen by this time, well you will be really hungry when lunchtime comes....just like the animal you are responsible for feeding will be hungry. You didn't clean the bathroom? Well, you are not allowed the privilege of using the bathroom until it's been cleaned. You are not dressed on time so we can go to xyz? I guess you are going in your pajamas. You didn't pick up your toys? I will pick them up, with a garbage bag, that will be put into the garbage can. Yes, I have actually done all of these. For the child who tells you that you are mean or angry all of the time, here are my thoughts. You are supposed to train your child to survive in the adult world. That means having responsibilities. In the adult world if you don't do what you are supposed to, then there are consequences. If you don't go to work, you can't pay your bills and will be homeless etc etc. When my oldest has talked to me that way I've explained the above to him, then sent him to his room. If you can't treat me with respect, then you will not be allowed to be in my presence or anyone else's ( because one child's attitude/actions will affect other children's) until you can act properly and give me a heartfelt apology. Once we started the natural consequences method, it only took a few days for our children to change dramatically. And I've noticed that when I fail to follow through because I'm tired etc, they will immediately revert to walking all over me. IF one of my children continues to not follow the rules etc., they've earned a phone call from Daddy at work. Daddy does NOT like to have to deal with this while he's at work. The children know if it comes to that, they are in for major consequences, like loss of privileges (tv time etc). I think you did exactly the right thing by not taking them camping. That's a natural consequence to their actions. :grouphug::grouphug: Kim
  9. Here you go... http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com/yc_signup.html I agree, free is nice but the formatting is horrible. I'd rather pay a little bit of money, but be able to easily read it. Kim
  10. I'm glad that I made your day!:) I love a good deal. My hubby also said when the deal comes around again for me to buy them. Kim
  11. Well, I can't tell you if you'd actually use them or not.:) I will tell you that if you join the mailing list, they do a special a few times a year for $99.00 HTH! Kim
  12. Hi Katie! We used Lingua Mater's Intermediate Language Lessons, then Language Lessons from Literature. Last year (7th) we added Seton's English. I was very pleased with the combination. Hope to see you at a park day soon! Kim
  13. I'd take copies of the test results to your Dr and see what she says. I didn't want to medicate my ADHD kids. I waited until my oldest was 12, after trying diet changes etc. After a few weeks on the meds he told me" Mom, I'm not stupid anymore." It broke my heart that all of this time he thought he was stupid because he couldn't pay attention well enough to "get" math & grammar. It doesn't hurt to see what your Dr recommends or to try out diet changes or meds for a time. The kids will tell you if the meds help them or not. My 5 yr old tells me he needs his meds to "think and be good." But all kids are different, some do well with just dietary changes. Borrow some books from the library and see where it leads you. We like the ADHD Diet(book). Best of luck to you! Kim
  14. I'm in NC too. we usually do Seton. However, this year we are planning to do Christian Liberty Press's CAT testing online. It's the same price $25 and they e-mail you the results immediately. http://www.shopchristianliberty.com/testing-service/ Kim

  16. I haven't used Seton Art 2 but I've used Seton Art 1,6 & 7. We used Art 1 in our co-op and all of the kids loved it. Art 2 is newly revised, you may not find anyone who's used it yet. If your kids like to draw, we really like Artpac Art With a Purpose. http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=16&category=5124 They are widely available, but there's a link to RR so you can look at them. HTH, Kim
  17. Come to my house. My husband spent the day gutting my kitchen, including removing a window and finding a chimney in the floor. I told him I had better have a working stove to make espresso in the morning. Fun times! Kim
  18. I'm 35. I've lost 50 lbs in the last year and feel great. I sympathize with you, you sound like I did last year. Like you, I want another child but I hadn't lost the weight from my last one ( 5 yr old). I switched from whole milk to non fat milk. Considering I drink about 2 cups a day, that was a significant and easy way to drop fat grams. I now only have dessert once a week. Before I was having dessert every night. I stopped buying any junk food, even my beloved poptarts. Until I stopped, I didn't realize how much snacking I was doing. Finishing the kids fruit chews, chicken nuggets etc. I've gotten back into gardening, making bread and generally trying to eat more fruits and vegetables. You can do it! Just take baby steps, drop or add one thing a week. Blessings, Kim
  19. I use Explode the Code workbooks and letter practice sheets from http://www.education.com/ in addition to 100EZ. My son loves worksheets! HTH, Kim
  20. :iagree: Also, a downloadable teacher's guide is fine with me. I like the idea of having links to amazon. This way unlike buying book packages, I can only buy what I don't have or what my library doesn't carry. It's so much easier to add my religious content to something secular than it is to take away content that I don't agree with. Now, get to work!:) Kim
  21. I'm giving up sweets and I'm going to put myself on a time limit for the internet. I'd like to give up red meat entirely for Lent, but my family would mutiny. Kim
  22. I'll have an 8th grader next year.
