  1. We do open faced hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes.Add a green veggie that you like, Kim
  2. My kids eat rabbit, goat, veal, and lamb. Rabbit is their favorite( a holiday delicacy), the goat was snuck in on them but they liked it. The veal and lamb are regular Sunday dinner items at my in-laws house. Me, I don't eat any of that.:ack2: Kim
  3. We all have strep and I also have a sinus infection. We drinking a ton of hot tea with lemon and honey and taking our antibiotics. Unfortunately, we've been sick for three weeks already. I hope you feel better soon! Kim
  4. I live about an hour from Raleigh/Durham. Homeschool laws here are very easy. You file your intent to homeschool, and keep attendance, immunization and standardize achievement test on file in your home. You must have a GED or high school diploma to homeschool your child. As for activities, I've heard about several groups in the Raleigh area, however I'm in the Piedmont, so I can't give you first hand knowledge of that area. I know my local groups are very active. I've yet to meet anyone here who has been negative about homescooling. Just today a woman who works at our local school told me how great she thinks homeschooling is.:) Good Luck! Kim
  5. I love Penzey's! My husband loves the Northwoods, Northwoods Fire and Black & Red. I love almost everything I've ever bought from them. The extracts are awesome! We use the Northwoods almost daily. Our favorite, is to sprinkle it on chicken leg quarters, spray with olive oil, sprinkle with bread crumbs and bake. It gives the taste and feel of fried chicken, without all of the fat and mess. I use a lot of the recipes out of the catalog. Greek seasoning is also great on chicken. The Beef Roast seasoning is really good, so is the taco seasoning. We use the Steak Seasoning all summer. Their cocoa is the best. I just bought the cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla beans for my holiday baking. We don't live near a Penzey's, so when my MIL goes to CT we send her with a list. The only one's we haven't liked is the Trinidad Seasoning and the Pasta Sprinkle. Trinidad had a heavy onion flavor and the Pasta sprinkle was rather sweet on pasta ( too much basil/rosemary). HTH, Kim
  6. I bought my stone at Wal-Mart. It was a pizza set with handles. We removed the handles. I think we paid $10 for it, we've had it for two years and even bake pizza on the grill with it. Kim
  7. Obey was in my part of the vows! Occasionally, my dh tease me about it. It doesn't bother me. FYI We are very traditional Catholics, if that matters. Kim
  8. My kids are being Thing 1 and Thing 2. I just have to order their blue wigs! Kim
  9. When my son was christened, he was given a wall cross and a guardian angel statue. We put them both on a shelf in his room. I smile every time I look at the shelf. HTH, Kim
  10. I'm 5'7", am down 17 lbs to 170! All I've changed is drinking water during the day instead of tea/juice and have been skipping dessert. I'd like to lose 40 lbs more but my dh says no more than 20 more lbs. When we married I weighed 105. He says he won't allow me to be that small again, that I looked sick. Kim
  11. Winter Promise has been great for my son. A lot of hands on activities, websites to check out, dvd suggestions and great books laid out in a grid schedule. HTH, Kim
  12. We loved Heart of Dakota's Little Hands to Heaven program. This year with my 4 yr old I'm using Winter Promise JOI & IRL along with some Catholic stuff. Hope you find something that you love. Kim
  13. Strictly Catholic, but I do use some non-Catholic but Christian materials. Kim
  14. Your friend should speak to her priest. She can receive special dispensation to practice birth control or be sterilized, for her health and so she can care for her children. My MIL received dispensation 40 yrs ago because she had 2 children who were special needs. I can't imagine a modern priest not helping her. Blessings, Kim
  15. WP has independent student schedules. Is that what you mean? I like WP Language Arts too, but I've never used their exclusive's for LA. Their website has sample weeks. HTH, Kim
  16. I had A2. It kept locking up my computer when I'd try to open files( I run Windows XP). The things on the cd looked really interesting but it was a lot of printing. Everything but his phonics and math generator are available free online. HTH, Kim
  17. What the person might be talking about is the old custom of donating money for vestments for the priest, in the person's memory. My MIL is really into doing that. That is an old custom and I don't believe that most modern Catholics follow it. Our parish had never heard of it when my MIL said that she wanted to do it for her Mother. It is certainly not necessary. Blessings, Kim
  18. Even better is Snickers spread, which sadly they don't sell here in the U.S. Almost as good is peanut butter co.'s dark chocolate and peanut butter blend. And World Market's dark chocolate spread.:D Kim

  20. We are using CHC's K program, as written. Adding in WP IRTL & JOI. I just follow the schedules in each guide. We don't do all three every day. Kim
  21. Here http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/bookupdates/index1.htm Scroll down, it's the third from the bottom. It just says divide evenly throughout the unit. HTH, Kim
