  1. I was told you cannot get the shot after the injury, the hospital would hook the child up to an IV instead. I have also gone back and forth about this one. We'll see what summer brings.
  2. Hmm they love art and projects and games and field trips. They will listen attentively to SOTW in the car. They do love read alouds. Dd Loves science and does it on her own, unbidden and extra work. They tolerate everything else. I say the same thing: do school here or all day somewhe else. Ds says he want to play all day which means build Legos all.day.long. They will watch all kinds of educational videos;) Our break ended today, but all we did was math and read alouds:)
  3. My dh does have a PhD, but he didn't when he started getting online gigs. Has he taught an online courses for his current job?
  4. Ok so I wonder how much Math he as and if he could teach online. The way you describe his position sounds like an adjnct except they're calling it tenured: no benefits, enrollment deductions, no security, contract to contract semesters. I know you may think it "dishonest," but he needs to try and get some online gigs. I have VERY LITTLE regard for our current higher education system. My dh is employed by higher ed and makes good money, but it's a hot racket and the state of it is as bad or worse than PS.
  5. But you say he has no security semester to semester so that's not really tenured even if they use the term. Again, how are they going to track his income if he teaches online? What is his field?
  6. My dh has taught in the university system for almost 15 yrs and we have always had benefits. You can't be FT and tenured without benefits. I know your in SI, can you move to Indiana? USI has been hiring a ton and they provide benefits for FT non-tenured faculty. Also he can teach for an online school as long as it isn't in IL as far as I understand. The school doesn't do your taxes. Higher Education can act like a big bully, but they will not put out a search to find your dh out there and most schools do not list faculty names and info. What does he teach? Ok I just reread your post and you said lecturer and contract. Those terms would not be applicable after you get tenure. Is he on the tenure track? Also I don't know anyone tenured without benefits. I just want to clarify b/c if that's the case, he needs to get on the job market. I know there are VERY FEW tenured positions out there, but there are community college positions that have benefits. Is he at Vincennes?
  7. My kids don't get a lot either, we only do 3 gifts each. I did get them nice thngs, BUT I used cc points and B&N coupons for most of it. Dd1-instamax camera paid w/points, duct tap kit paid w/points. Snap circuts are the only thing I paid for. I would have been able to get these for 40% off had MIL told me she didn't get these. Ds- 2 lego kits and Hobbit figure set bought at 30-40% off with coupons. Dd2- ikea doll bed, Leap Pad for $50, and a ukele. I spent under $100 for each kid. This is not usually the case. Oh i did buy a game (w/coupon) and the magic schoolbus vds to share.
  8. Congrats on being the kind of Mother whose family works to bless her! Sooo awesome! Enjoy your present!
  9. Beef tenderloin Garlic mash pots w/gravy Roasted golden beets Brussel sprouts sauted in bacon grease wih bacon, cranberries, and tossed in balsamic vinegar.
  10. No, PKU tests for a variety of things. It does vary from state to state, but I think Susan is NC which tests for CF. Now sometimes the tests are faulty:(
  11. Math. Play more math games. 30-45 min of math seat work, it's been gettng longer b/c dd dwaddles. Read alouds have died out..get them going. P/up art again.
  12. Hmm I lived in Eville for 6 yrs and liked it okay. I would not move to TH, but SM's a lovely school so tat's tough. I lived next to UE and it is a great school/campus as well. Does your dd want to be in an all girls school?
  13. Today is our 12th anniversary!:) We got married in the Catholic church we were attending and had premarital counseling there. The church was decorated for Christmas and Beautiful so we didn't do a thing. It rained before the ceremony, but turned to snow when we were leaving-so magical! Our reception was in a refurbished vintage theater overlooking downtown. I wore my Grandmother's dress. Everything was classic and 40's and Awesome! 95% of our guests were from out of town since this was my college town and dh had moved there for a job.
  14. I grew up in a tiny house, no privacy. We lived as a family of 5 in 1800 sq ft, now our house is 2700 sq ft. But we live in an old house, 1955, the upstairs beds are small. Our kitchen is huge, which is awesome, but the living room is average smallish. I like that the kids all have their own rooms.
  15. Sure I think it unwise to have kids you can't afford, but then again people make unwise decisions all the time, including me. Are they good parents despite being broke? I think the kids will be a testament as to whether or not it all worked out. I could afford a slew of kids, but then I couldn't be a good mother if I was stuck in a looney bin somewhere;) I'm pregnant so I NEED a cupcake NOW!
  16. FWIW, I plan taking 2 yrs for Algebra 1 as well since dd will be a young 7th grader. I don't think starting in a month or 2 will be a problem, you'll figure out fast enough if there are any gaps.
  17. Addy's (dutch) and Blue Ridge Brewing company I think are open on Christmas, both are great. Ok Addy's opens at 7. Great food and great atomsphere. Downtown Greenville.
  18. I'm in Greenville as well, but I can bet the choices will be slim for Christmas dinner.
  19. WWE SOTW R & S English Used these for three years so far and still love them. Exploration Education science
  20. We are still using the book. Ds is reading VP's first favorites and is reading at the 1st/2nd grade level. I was under the impression this was a two yr book.
  21. My dd is doing the Intermediate and we love it. I doubt we will use their advanced program, I'd rather use Supercharged Science for an older student.
