  1. My 4th grader, Dd 9, is doing the Intermediate level by herself. I check over the logbook and have helped her like twice with very minor things. I've also taught her how to study for the tests. I doubt a 9th grader would be challenged by the advanced since she could likly do it next year.
  2. My mom had her gallbladder out a few months after having me as a fresh 22 yr old.
  3. Yes and no. I was afraid it post it on youtube since it might be viewed by anyone. And the illegal thing, but we are in SC so I doubt it's illegal:) I was proud of my dh for supporting her, because that is his LEAST favorite thing. His Dad belly laughed when he heard what dd put him up to.
  4. Just a germ type mask. I think they were purchased at Target.
  5. Thanks for that info! The mask unfortunately ended up on the 4 yr old who was trying to be like big sis. No, she didn't have anything to do with the dissection. It was done outside so hopefully that decreasd exposure and she had on gloves.
  6. We do chocolate coins and a new book.
  7. Alice thank you! She's really the sweetest most caring kid I have! She has always been very observant, etc. and always wants to doctor anyone who's been hurt. She would never dream of hurting anything. I call he the butterfly whisperer becaus she can catch insane amounts of butterflies. I remember when she was 7,we came across a homeschool pig dissection video and she watched it all in fascination. I have a ton of neat things planned for a biology/anatomy course for 5th grade next year.
  8. My dd9 has always shown a STRONG medical field interest. We've supported this as there are many Dr.'s/scientists on dh's side. He's the weird one with a PhD in English. She is very into science experiemnts, etc. She has various things growing, etc. in her room, it's scary really, lol! So yesterday dh was out "getting rid of squirrels," we're overrun here and dd requested to see if they could look inside the squirrel. My dh is VERY squeamish about this sort of thing, but talked her through a dissection (gloves/mask) and video-taped it. She was very scientific with the whole thing identifying the organs and such. Dh had to work hard to not throw up! I'm just wondering if this is weird for her age? She is a super animal lover and also very girly, hard core ballet, etc. I'm not one to discourage exploration, but I was a little creeped out. Maybe it was just not somethng I would have done. I'm not sure I should encourage her to tell her friends. Please tell me someone else's kid loves dissection!
  9. Ds read Nate the Great last week. I thought it would be a stumbler, but he surprised me.
  10. The college prep schools here have kids doing pre-algebra in 6th and Algebra in 7th & Geometry in 8th!
  11. This is why I test my dd. I don't want to deal with any Extra bureacracy if/when we go to school.
  12. We are going to start WWS and hit History harder. Dd will finish a few subjects by end of March before I have the baby. The focus will be writing and math for the ladt few months of school.
  13. We do 3 gifts each, plus stockings. I usually don't think about spending, bu this year we are trying to be more frugal, not due to lack of funds, but because we feel we should. I have used credit card points for dd1 and spent only $55 so far. I will buy her one more gift. I've used B & N membership coupons for ds and nieces and nephews and spent half what I wold have normally. Dd2 only has one $20 gift so far, but I will likely spent $80 total. I think my total for all 3 might be $400.
  14. It depends on the book. Board books by 2. Most of the picture books we have re non-fiction educational. I have a shelf of 2 I save for my Grandchildren.
  15. Love WWE. We've used 1,2,3 and dd is getting ready to begin WWS slowly becaue she is 9. My ds is in 1 and in week 16 I think and already is improving in narration and answering in complete sentences. You have to learn to think properly before you can write properly. SWB has created a brillant program. I know my kids will be great writers.
  16. I'm like Imp, I always know. I dream it. This time, I'm not super sure, although I'd bet boy. I go next week. I think we'll all agreed on having it put in an envelope for Christmas Day.
  17. A new macbook, dd 2 spilled water on it. Someone to come and help me declutter/organize my problem spots. Someone to list the stuff I need to sell. Someone to deep clean my house, blinds, cracks and crevices. A personal trainer after I have this baby.
  18. We will kick off the season on Dec 1. We have stollen for breakfast and hot cocoa. We celebrate advent nightly and have services twice a week. We also have an advent calendar filled with annual activities and such. My dd dances in the Nutcracker every year so we have a busy time with that. It's a busy but realaxing month.
  19. I don't have a problem with General Oversite. Those who are educating their children shouldn't either. Things like: Are my kids literate, able to write a coherent sentence and able to do math close to grade level? I'm talking about end of elementary and middle school testing to make sure a 13 yr old is not functioning as a 6 yr old.
  20. We are also talking about a cult here. In a cult the children Always suffer. Religious Fundamentalism is causing this and regardless of what homeschooling laws are in place, parents whose children aren't learning, still won't learn. The FD's won't allow it.
  21. Nope. The Grandparents and Uncle have systems they can play, but not at home. Ds is very prone to obsession with screen so we have to not allow them.
  22. A duct tape set and a fancy set of duct rolls Instamatic camera and film A pink otterbox for the old iphone(now itouch) she's inheriting Headphones for it Pj's/slippers Book Earrings Hair stuff
  23. Lego LOTR Hobbit action figure set Harry Potter lego set
  24. I'm gettng a set for my dd9. She just made an electrical light circuit with her science program exploration educationa intermediate and she isloving it. What's great is the program will be explaining this project for the next few weeks and so she will understand how it all works very well.
  25. My ds is a first grader and we do about 2 hours, but it coincides with my dd as well. So he may have to wait if I'm n te midde of something with her. We cover readng, phonics, math, handwriting, WWE, and he does some Greek and history/science read alouds.
