  1. Does the Thirty One organizing utility tote come with a zipper?
  2. So I'll add my thoughts. We currently live in Carmel, but we have also lived in Indianapolis. We have really enjoyed Indiana. The people here are nice -- but I've honestly never lived anywhere where I didn't find the people to be nice. I like the four seasons and all of the trees in the fall. I grew up in Nebraska and so I'm used to tornado warnings, but I don't worry about tornadoes too much. I don't know too much about the homeschool climate here as I am sending my son to public school. I do know that the library has some homeschool programs as does the Children's museum, but they might be for younger grades. One benefit of Carmel is that it has over 60 roundabouts and so traffic feels really easy here if you're just driving through town. Even if you have to go downtown from here it's not too bad. Fishers is another nice community as well, but you'll hit more traffic going to downtown from there, but housing can be cheaper. Another benefit of Indiana is that it's within a day's drive (which I consider 12 hours) of lots of places. Within a day I can drive to Florida, D.C., NYC, Tennessee, Nebraska, etc. One thing that I do wish that Indianapolis had is an Ikea. The closest one is in Cincinnati.
  3. I do general transcription from home. I usually work 15 to 20 hours per week and it brings in extra money. To be a good transcriptionist you need to treat transcribing as a real job, have excellent grammar skills, and possess a good ear. Two great forums to join if you're interested in learning more about the industry are Transcription Essentials and Transcription Haven. I have also started a blog about transcribing (since many people in real life and online have asked me about the industry) and you can PM me for the blog address. I know that you can also do a search on general transcription on this forum and it will bring up some old threads. Becoming a virtual assistant is also something that you could look into.
  4. I'm sorry. I've done this with two of my three kids (the first and the third) and I'm still mostly dairy free while I'm nursing my baby. Hugs. It's funny, but ever since I went off dairy with my first I don't crave ice cream or milk. The thing that's the hardest for me is the cheese. This time around is going slightly better as I am trying to focus on making foods that I can eat rather than making a pizza and leaving cheese off of my portion. So this week it's a lot of salads, couscous, wraps, sometimes Asian food, soups, meat and veggies, and so on.
  5. I also transcribe from home, and I echo those two resources as fantastic places to learn more about the industry. Working from home as a transcriptionist has worked well with my family life and I've enjoyed it.
  6. My husband is good friends with a small business owner (around ten people) who has always tried hard to offer good coverage for his employees and treat them well. He also leans very far left. Because of the financial implications of Obamacare, he has stated he will most likely stop offering coverage. He plans to increase pay and let his employees go on the health care exchange. I think it says a lot that if he will no longer be offering his employees coverage that other small business owners will likely make a similar decision.
  7. My father-in-law is colorblind and I have several nephews (my husband's sisters' sons) who are color blind as well. My mother-in-law doesn't let my father-in-law go berry picking because he has a hard time distinguishing ripe berries from non-ripe berries by color. We invited some friends over to play Qwirkle once and we didn't realize that one of them was colorblind. He still won the game, but it was somewhat awkward.
  8. I agree with the post about the cascading events of interventions such as inductions, pitocin, epidurals and sometimes those leading to c-sections. I think it's especially common for first-time mothers whose bodies take longer to give birth to go down that route to a c-section. And then once a woman has had a c-section doctors are scared to do a VBAC. So if a woman has three or four children and her first one was a C-section it is very likely she will end up having three or four c-sections in her life. I was lucky in that although with my first I was induced with pitocin and had an epidural, when my baby's heart rate started going down my doctor just told me that I was close to pushing and if I pushed hard enough I could avoid a c-section, which luckily I did.
  9. I work from home as a general transcriptionist and help a bit with my husband's internet marketing business. I'll be honest and say that at the time I don't homeschool (although I am busy with three littles) and will be putting my oldest in school in the fall. I work about 15 to 20 hours a week during naptimes or after bedtime. I set my own hours and I am usually as busy as I want to be.
  10. From what I understand is that say you have a project that you get paid $3,000 for and of that $3,000 you pay a subcontractor $2,000. So you would deduct $2,000 as a subcontractor expense and you personally would only be taxed on the $1,000.00 that you kept. They would be responsbile for paying taxes on the $2,000. You would need to send them a 1099 if they made more than $600.00 a year and then you would also be responsible for filing a 1096 which is basically a form that compiles all the 1099s you filled out. There's more information on this online or you can also talk to an accountant.
  11. Also talk to an accountant about the structure of your business -- LLC, s-corp, etc as there are different legal and tax implications of each structure.
  12. Chicken hummus wraps. Basically baked/grilled chicken with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers that I put into tortillas spread with hummus. My children aren't that adventurous and so they're just getting the baked chicken with pasta.
  13. I can't directly answer your question, but I have a few thoughts. Do you have any experience in the field? During college I took a couple of courses related to becoming an MA (medical assistant) and they covered coding, but as far as I know unless you already have in-office experience and great contacts then you'd have a hard time working from home and you'd have to build your business from scratch. Perhaps I would contact a local community college and ask if they offer an degrees or certificates in coding, but even then I think most of the work is in office. Have you looked at work-at-home forum boards and such? I bet if you spent a few hours online you could get a much better picture of the industry. I do have to say that I do general transcription from home and there are reputable ways to work from home, but you have to do your research and work hard to make it all work.
  14. I found that if labor had already started that walking helped the contractions to intensify. However, if labor had not started on its own then nothing I did could help. I tried lots of walking and TeA time when I was pregnant with my daughter and she was still eight days late. My youngest son I didn't do anything to help with labor and he was one day early. I do remember that with my youngest son I had contractions in the middle of the night and I couldn't tell if it was better to walk around and keep them up or try to lay down and get some rest. Eventually they did get strong enough to go to the hospital, but those were some tiring hours before that.
  15. I would also recommend moneysavingmom.com and searching the archives for work-at-home resources. She has done blog posts, links to ebooks, etc. on the subject. Also, I do general transcription from home and two resources that helped me get started were transcriptionessentials.com (a forum) and transcriptiontalk.blogspot.com which although it hasn't been updated in a few years, it still has pertinent information about working as a transcriptionist.
  16. Something about the young Snow White rubs me the wrong way too, but it is a different actress named Bailee Madison. I also don't like Gold's antagonism towards Henry. The show is interesting though and I had never thought that Cora might be responsible for Snow White's mother's death. Also, Cora mentioned being the miller's daughter and so I wonder if she was from the story of the woman who met Rumplestilskin when she needed to spin gold but yet somehow she never became the queen.
  17. I have seen the first season and a few episodes of the second season and it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't watch or read a lot of drama and this is too much like a soap opera. I've also been reading spoilers today from season two and three and I'm not sad at all that I missed the episodes.
  18. I'm in a somewhat similar position with wondering whether to quit at three or four. My baby's only four months and so I won't really think about it for another year or two. All that I know is that when this baby was born I felt like crying at the thought of being done and at the same time I felt like crying to think of possibly having another. You have to love postpartum hormones. I have to say life has been pretty crazy these last couple of years and so if life calmed down then number four might be easier.
  19. We love ours and use it to make smoothies, salsa, and hummus. I'm sure we could use it for more things, but that is what we use it for now.
  20. My hair (dirty blonde) turns darker when I'm pregnant and then goes back to my original shade after the baby is born. So when my baby is a few months old you can more clearly see a 2-3 inch section of darker hair that remains that color until it eventually gets cut off a year or two later.
  21. There is one of those restaurants close to us and that would be a lot of fun. I've also thought of perhaps giving him a one-month's pass to a local rock climbing gym, but I just don't know if he'd have the time to fully utilize it. I could get him a one day pass and he could see if he could get a friend to go with him. I think he would enjoy that with a friend rather than me because his friend would have greater endurance and such. We used to have a company that offered gourmet cooking classes but it seems that they closed down a few months ago. He does value experiences over things.
  22. So my husband is turning 30 in March and I want to make it special. My budget is about $50-$100 and he's not much for a sentimental item, although he wouldn't mind doing something together. My thoughts are either a fancy dinner out, throwing a surprise party (but it couldn't be at our apartment because it's too small) or a gift. He likes gourmet food, cycling, camping, tech/arduino. Any ideas would be helpful.
  23. We have used them in the past and were happy with them. Now both my husband and I are self-employed and so we hire an accountant since our taxes are more complex.
  24. http://familiesusa2....efits-Women.pdf Here is a list of things that Obamacare will also cover including contraceptives. „ an annual well woman visit, „ birth control, including oral contraception and IUDs, „ HIV screening and counseling, „ sexually transmitted infection counseling, „ screening for gestational diabetes, „ breastfeeding consultation and supplies, including breast pumps, and „ screening and counseling for domestic violence I don't think these things necessarily are the cause for the totality of the premium increases, but I don't think they can be ignored either.
