  1. What about the students who just want to work after school is out? Or start their own business? It just seems like not giving students a diploma who earned it and need it for a better paying job is pushing them into poverty because better paying jobs do require a high school diploma.
  2. How is this different from any other online public school that anyone in the country can access?
  3. My 16 year old son has them in the middle of his back. I've never seen anything like that either. They are starting to fade a bit, but in 3 years, he grew 10 inches and a lot of width (muscle), so I guess I should expect that.
  4. I also just paid for her guidance. Well worth it in my opinion because I needed springs clothes and the $20 I paid will give me ideas of what I can do. Come to find out, a couple of cheap t-shirts, a pretty scarf, and a pair of white pants is all I need to complete the "capsule" using what I already own but had no idea how to pull together. It saved me a ton of time and money.
  5. If you just want a commentary, google "bible commentary". Matthew Henry has good insights. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. You were one cool dresser! I bet your hair was permed also.
  7. Yes, that shirt is cute. Now, I'm assuming you didn't see the original. Imagine parallel ruffles running down the length of the shirt. THAT type of ruffle shirt.
  8. I just remembered...I made myself a long prairie style dress in some gingham print with ruffles on the front for 8th grade graduation. 1984. The end of a string of very bad hair and clothing choices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I agree about the college level placement of pre-calc. My ds took a semester of college algebra and now is taking pre-calc after completing pre-calc with Saxon. College classes go fast! His semester started first week of January and is ending in mid May. A full year of high school Pre-Calc in a short semester. Maybe start with college Algebra. You can do both in a year. 10. Just seeing that runs the song "Purple Rain" through my head.
  11. I opened my JC Penney ad today and saw this: http://www.jcpenney.com/arizona-denim-ruffle-top-juniors/prod.jump?ppId=ppr5007217799&catId=SearchResults&searchTerm=ruffle%20top And all of us who were in our teens when this monstrosity happened are running off to warn the next generation.
  12. Why do bees be? Why do bears bear? (Quick! Which 80s TV show?)
  13. We did each separately when we had hail damage. The adjuster was amazingly thorough. Then, we hired a company we knew already. I live in a larger city and almost a year out, we still have some repairs to do. The suppliers ran out of roof shingles multiple times and now there a backlog of siding for those that need it. A huge mess! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. My mom was the last of nine. The "I can't believe we got pregnant again" baby. When she was a newborn, her soon to be and already college age sisters took care of her completely. When they all left for college, they said that she got very sad. Her own mother did not even know how much milk she was drinking per feeding. My mom felt abandoned by her "moms" and left with a total stranger who was her real mom. The older sisters also came back from college to find my mom very very sick just laying on the floor. The sisters nursed her back to health. While my mom seems very able to function, there is a definite lack of showing emotion on her part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I would like to move to a ranch and a half (where there is a living space and a master bedroom bath only on the second floor) that would accommodate my special needs son better. The thought of taking out a larger mortgage than we have now is NOT something I want to do in my late 40s. Right now, I am looking into every possible way to pay off our house in less than 10 years so that we are not retiring with a mortgage. If somehow we could pay cash for the house we really could use to suit our situation better, I would. Otherwise, nope. I hate mortgages and really want that part of our life to end soon.
  16. If you have dual enrollment options, having a child remain their grade level is helpful. A lot of colleges have 1/2 priced credits for high school students. Also, the location we are in allows any high school student who passes a certain test to take college level classes. My sophomore son will have 9 credits by the end of the year. If you advance a child even if they're academically ready, you can miss out on some of these free Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I red shirted my daughter who has a late May birthday. She was adopted and her maturity level has always been about two years behind. She's getting better, but I still call her a grade younger than she "should" be. I also have a ds with a September birthday and a ds with an October birthday. I have always called them by the grade they would be in Minnesota public schools (because that's where we started homeschooling) which had a September 1 cut off. When we moved, my ds should be in a grade higher (October 1 cutoff), but I'm keeping him where he's at. Around here, you can do dual credit for college/high school so being on the older side of a grade is helpful. My wise friend has always told me, "It's easier to graduate a child one year early than to hold back a child who needs an additional year to mature." She red shirted all her summer birthday kids. Side note- I find it ironic that the nation for the most part can adopt common core, but can't agree on dates when a child is supposed to register for kindergarten. A child moving from state to state with an early fall birthday can fall into two different grades depending upon where they move.
  18. We moved 1000 miles for a job without a relocation package. Yes, we took a hit financially, but DH not having a job was hitting us pretty hard also. He loves his new job and it was a very good decision. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Yes, they can rule stuff like that, but in reality, the school district can do just the opposite. I have my special needs son on home bound education of 1 hour per week because the school failed to provide staff to meet basic care needs due to his disability. Educational needs couldn't even be addressed because safety and personal care needs could not even be met. It was a horrible situation and someone is going to get hurt and the school is going to be sued if nothing changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. It does look awesome. I have a 12 year old that might actually enjoy this.
  21. We ran $5400 with an expander, reverse head gear, with a fairly complex tooth situation due to a cleft palate. I'm not even sure if that includes bottom braces. The bottom teeth are mostly straight.
  22. My friend was in a very similar adoption situation where her body chemicals changed to the point she started to smell differently. She smelled like fear. Eventually, they had to essentially dissolve the adoption. As a result, my friend will always tell people to not adopt regardless of the circumstance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. He also wants to make a living wage. I know that teaching is not going to make him rich, but I don't want him and his future family living in poverty either.
