  1. We saw a few here last year. Strange looking things. They look so crunchy, I'd wouldn't want to squish em. ick... Not that we would squish em, but looking at one under our Brock would be cool.
  2. You should be able to go to your pay-pal account (not through that e-mail) and check your account. Sadly, it sounds like you are going to have to talk with someone at pay-pal.
  3. You both might want to sit down and reconsider the car pooling, because this is an on going thing. You mentioned your dd doesn't want to hang out with the girls. That sentence sticks out to me. It sounds like they are growing apart. Lots of kids begin to enjoy new activities, things, and friends as they mature. I'd encourage your dd to explore other interests, and new friends. Do you make, suggest or plan social outings with your kids. You could start asking those kids (and others) to join all of you for a day at the mall, movie or dinner etc. Also encourage your kids to make new friends. Joining clubs, classes or activities is a great place to meet new people. Imho They are being inconsiderate and rude, but their behavior is common:(.
  4. Hancock Fabrics has a buyers program. Sign-up and they send you coupons through the mail. I shop Jo Ann's, Walmart & Hancock and always watch for sales. Also ask the sales reps for help. They often know where the best bargains are in their stores.
  5. We aren't eligible here for HSLDA membership because we are part of a home school assistance program. :( I'd call, e-mail and contact my local and state reps if I lived in California.
  6. I put WS on the shelf years ago along with my RS & EW. Strangely, I've pulled the books back out for another look. My two kids are very different. Heck, a few years later and I'm different. I've grown to appreciate simplicity and greatly value programs or lessons that get consistently done day after day.
  7. I have dreams of belonging here, but reality keeps getting in my way. I really do wish I could have them do it all, but I've settled for doing what we do-do well. Ha, I posted an official do-do post.;):
  8. I use my sour-dough starter in all kinds of things. Not sure about the Amish one.
  9. Litter box house will let you avoid looking at the er, mess:o.
  10. We're still moving towards high school. I've been able to squeeze in a few extra weeks by not taking a big fall, Christmas or Spring break. This allows us to finish up in May or June and have the summer off. I push hard during the winter. Spring break here is still...well it's still well below freezing this morning. I'd love to see more schedules from high school families too. My dd has become more productive and self driven to finish her work in shorter amount of time. She's set a goal to be done around 2 and works hard to make it happen daily. (There is often more reading to be done later.)
  11. Jean, I always try to read your threads because you don't find everything "Easy as pie." And you are always encouraging. Thank you. I'm finding myself working harder and harder tying to make high school homeschooling a viable option here.
  12. I think the selection does vary. We have three stores and their selections of fresh veggies is small, but good quality at a great price. (During the summer they can often beat our local farmer's market.) Their whole grain breads are delicious and inexpensive. I could never do all my shopping there, but it is one of my regular stops. We do live in a city that is challenged for organic products. :(
  13. Yes, the carts are a quarter in/out. You can purchase bags for a nickle, bring your own or use the boxes. Enjoy. Aldi here has a lot more brand names mixed in. Let us know how your shopping trip went.
  14. Lovely post. Most posts can never give the full picture and what sounds like very low standards, may be the top of the mountain. ;) I love TWTM & these boards. Thank you Susan!
  15. I don't get much screen time in, but think the kids are cuties.
  16. Clue, Scrabble, cards, Uno, any of the Cranium games would be nice. Crossword puzzles, real books, and small electronic hand held games might be nice.
  17. We received a whole roasted chicken, green beans, cornbread, and a bag of fruit when my dd was born. It was such a blessing and we at from that meal for days.
  18. 100% on every test would be an unattainable goal for most of us. I'd move on if he understands the concept. That said, for hurried, sloppy mistakes...Add this to your grading requirements....Show your work or it's half off even if you get it right:eek:. I'm not sure what age your ds is, but for my older ones who understand grade point averages, it works without the nagging. If you don't issue grades, try marking them in a highlighter and require a do-over.;)
  19. You have my sympathy. Dealing with allergies is tough enough without the expense. Any chance your dr. could recommend a less costly treatment? No allergy season here yet. Just snow, snow and yes it's snowing right now.
  20. Congratulations all around. Does this "somebody" have any outstanding wishes? Too bad the board doesn't have an official party princess to help. I'd go out of my to celebrate in a way he would love.;)
  21. I'd still consider her Learning to Read vs. Reading to Learn. An easy way to boost comprehension is with read alouds or books on CD. Ask her to retell you what happened. Stop and ask, what will happen next etc. Its been awhile, but I'm pretty sure TWTM has a list of questions or Ruth Beechick's A Home Start In Reading addresses comprehension in the Fluency section. Some younger children enjoy creating their own story pictures. This can be an easy window into what they are comprehending.
