  1. I'm registered as an Independent, and always vote my conscience. When I was party registered, I did often cross over.
  2. Does he take any lessons or activities outside the home like gym, swimming, art, basketball, soccer, art, music, 4-H, youth group or something? FOR limited TV dump the cable and only allow dvd shows or taped ones. You can eaisly control what and how much this way. Consider some simple around the house activites for him to become more involved in. Dusting, sweeping, taking out the trash, laundry or other simple things he can be a help with to you. This will include him and benefit everyone. I'd try not to make this into a punishment, but more of a good for you habit. And try not to expect him to entertain himself all day. Sounds like he needs more activity, and new friends. Try a trip to the park and a picnic. Wear him out and then enjoy a nice quiet evening yourself.
  3. If no one in your household is bothered by it, keep it. I take it the kids are fine and the live kitties aren't fretting or fussing. :p Now remind your dd or kids that not every visitor will love it like they do.
  4. Jo, you must use a lid to avoid those spills. Find a great container that will keep it hot and inside the cup. It will pay for itself in the long run. Hugs..Some kids are just harder according to my mom, but the good news is they almost always turn out just like...YOU!:D
  5. Jessica~ You are on the right path. Your dd is still very young to me. Lay a firm foundation in reading and writing while she is little, and she will knock your socks off once those skills are firmly in place. Learning to read is just that. Once they move onto reading to learn...Well watch out, it just gets better and better..:D Your confidence will be firmly in place by the time your ds begins. Another vote for the CM Companion and Original Series. I gotta run....
  6. Everyone be sure to check if you live in a free access state. US/DE has a link you can check. :D I do live in a free access state, and use it:). However, even at that reduced price, I would not pay for it. Streaming takes quite a lot of time. It's not instant access even with high speed Internet. jm2c
  7. Tee, hee. Jean. I'm laughing with you. We had an official blizzard here Tuesday, and my dd's art class still was in session. Enjoy your family and the baby snow:D
  8. Keeping a migraine & food diary will help you find what triggers your migraines. It can be eye strain, glaring sun, wind, polution, or any kind of food or drinks. Hope you find some relief.
  9. If you want natural remedies, try taking a teaspoon or so of apple cider. Rinse with it or swallow it. Yogurt is also helpful. Warm Saltwater gargling is also soothing. Tylenol or your regular pain medication would help too. Try some hot tea with honey. I hope you feel better.
  10. Oh, I agree with Barb. A better option would be simply allowing your student to work at their level while maintaining their current grade level. Advanced Placement (AP) or honors courses are well received on a transcript. A five year high school could eaisly be perceived negatively. There are large numbers of students working in the AP and honors courses in homeschool, private and public school settings. I think these always shine on a transcript.
  11. She is young, but you can help her. Choose activities that are interesting and well suited to her. If story hour or ballet are boring, either skip it/them or plan to keep a close eye on her. Immediately go in and remove her. Then follow up with a discussion about the expected and appropriate behavior. Please be sure to explain what she did and why she must leave. Then hug her and assure her that you know she can do it. You mention that she does well with you near, but don't expect a story teller or ballet instructor to teach or discipline your child. (Discipline to me = teaching and is a positive thing.) My experience with my kids and classrooms full has been that one time loosing the benefit was a real motivator.:)
  12. I'm up around 7:15 and that is my natural wake up. Eight is a sleep in day for me. I'm better with a good nights sleep and a routine time to get up and turn in.
  13. Finally~ I have found the right stylist after looking around our new town for a few years. There were a number of misses during my search. LaDiEs...A Good Stylist is hard to find. So tip her well when you find her and make your appointments on time. They are worth their weight in gold. My stylist owns her salon and the cost is better than in and out places or most places around here. Under $30 for a cut & style.
  14. I have been adding indoor exercise this week. The scale has not been checked as of yet:eek:.
  15. I ate orange slices in the morning and they often lessened my morning sickness. Mimosa drinks were also yummy. This allowed me to drink or eat. Fresh fruit in the morning like strawberries, watermelon or peaches almost always went down eaisly. You are on the island of fresh fruit:rolleyes:. Try some pineapple and other fruits to combat the queasiness. Hope you feel better.
  16. Stay warm and inside everyone. We're getting blasted here too. Blizzard is now officially a nasty word in my vocabulary.
  17. (((MamaBear))) I'm hoping his head is about to pop off today too missing your beautiful kids. And for the record...he is still a %#@% in my book.
  18. I think a number of kids who are younger find the writing stressful:( Other than the new format I think it is a pretty easy transition if the child is ready. If writing is an issue there are ways to accommodate the student. Personally, I like the format better after Saxon 3. jm2c
