  1. Belated congratulations to Peek & Sarah.
  2. My dh and I think test taking strategies and skills are important over the long haul. They are one (independent of me) measure of how they are doing. I've never been horribly shocked by the results, but I'm often reassured and surprised by how well they did. One of mine cried the first time, but now they are just something we do once a year, no big deal.
  3. (((Jean))) Prayers here. You couldn't have known before, but bless you for remembering and connecting it now. It may help in his diagnosis. I"m praying for you all.
  4. My heart just breaks for those little ones. Prayers here.
  5. My sister lost a bunch of weight and her hair really thinned out. Her doctor recommend some vitamins and a prescription. She also has a thyroid issue.
  6. I always follow the laws. That said, would this hypothetical teaching certificate proclaim me a valid teacher to any and all grades, and in any teaching situation? ie....Grade School, Middle School, High School in any state? Would I be certified to anyone's child at home? You would have to work long and hard to get two states to agree on any requirements. jmho... fwiw, I've lived in four different states while homeschooling and each one had very, very different requirements for home schooling as well as public schooling. Example on the number of days required for attendance. How did I miss this thread for so long. No time to read every follow up. I apologize in advance if I've repeated or missed something.
  7. Welcome back and wow. I'm so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and the kids. Twins~double wonderful. Congratulations too.
  8. You poor thing. Lots of sympathy. Any yogurt and acidophilus can help line your gut. Great for tummy distress and it's good for you. I'd also push the fluids with a re hydration drink.
  9. Lessons come first here every single day. The time just has to set in stone for us. My errands are run on the weekend. Most days we are done by 2 pm. I can squeeze in an errand there if I need too.
  10. No, I wouldn't do that to a house guest. It's more the kind of "young kid joke" a brother or sister would play on one another.
  11. Oh, how sad. I'm not sure, but the following link might help. http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Seniors.shtml
  12. We used the Red, Yellow and Orange books here. My children and I loved the living books. It was such an enjoyable, well planned out program and very easy follow. My dd was often able to do the weeks lessons in less than five days. This allowed us to have Fridays free for nature studies, library trips and afternoons in the park. On a whole my experience with the program was very positive. I never felt stressed or behind while using LLATL. The lessons were complete, our days planned and they got the work done daily. There was lots of academic progress without a lot of stress, and there was ample time for our other lessons and interests.
  13. Did you e-mail the person with all the info? It just sounds strange to me after reading it.
  14. Send out another thank you to your dh. I imagine the speeding genius thought he was original.
  15. I test and use the results for what they are. You might want to consider testing at the private school after discussing what is expected of her before hand. Then she might surprise you and actually try to do a good job. That said, (barring any Ld's) I'd work very hard on her work ethic, character what ever you call it. There is a place and a time for silliness, but lessons are not it. That kind of (repeated) work would have consequences. You being the parent would know best, but some options are. 1. Do it over. 2. Do more lesson or test work. 3. Chores. 4. Loss of privileges. 5. Talk with Dad the principle. etc. I have my own creative sole here, but he knows his lessons are his work. How do you react to her papers when she turns her Venus work? Charlotte Mason wrote a lot on the development of character & habits. You might enjoy one of her books or those written about the CM method. :)
