  1. Similar shipping issues here with a wedding gift from the store registry. I don't need any more of that kind of service. Too bad, because they had pants that fit me.
  2. I agree that Spanish makes more sense top start with an elementary student. As to your other question, there was a thread a while ago that indicated that Latin is generally accepted as a foreign language with the notable exception of the service academies. When you get closer you would need to check for current information, of course.
  3. I just checked out the audiobook for The Wee Free, we love the book, can't wait to hear someone else do the accents. Fortunately, the Milk The True Meaning of Smekday The Hobbit
  4. I had and used that one for years, 3? 4? Just last week the plastic tab that keeps it closed broke. It was time for a new one anyway, but that is why I'm watching your thread! One thing about it, though. The rubber inside gasket that clamps over the top got some discoloration early on that I could not discover the origin of. It looked like mildew? It wouldn't go away, but it didn't change, so I just used it. I would eat soup that been left out overnight, though, so there's that you can judge me by! I liked the wide mouth, no sucking on a valve or straw. I also liked that I could pretty much use it one-handed, no need to unscrew the top.
  5. If you want cheap/free look at MEP (again), if you have some budget get the Miquon Lab Annotations book and some or all of the workbooks. Another option would be some of the Math Mammoth workbooks.
  6. The Time Warp Trio has some books that might work if you don't mind skewing more towards fiction. I get better forum search results from Google. "Fiction ancients site: welltrainedmind.com" or whatever.
  7. In our card catalog if I find a book I want, I can search for "find more on this topic" which sometimes helps with terms because it shows them as what it is searching for. The search returns are usually too widespread to be helpful, but I can then use that term in a new, more targeted search. So, I found "Do You Know Which One Will Grow" and then searched for other books on the topic. I could see that the search engine was using "rhyming books" (not helpful) and "growth fiction" (huh), and returned 2500 titles. So I did an advanced search with "growth fiction" and juvenile target audience. That cut the titles to 81, which I can conceivably scroll through. Most aren't helpful (My Big Boy Bed) but some might be worth another look (Rooting For You? As an Oak Tree Grows?) If your catalog search doesn't do that, you could use mine, or any big system I suppose. OR you could just ask for recs on the board, we all love that game! ETA: another thing I can do in the card catalog is search for "items near this on the shelf" which shows me the neighboring books as if all the books in the system were shelved together.
  8. I don't use a debit card, but I will mention that starting last week if he reads the email in our joint account he is going to find gift receipts. Same with the credit card, although less detail.
  9. We used Lively Latin also. However, there are so, so many choices, you may want to poke around Cathy Duffy's reviews first to get a feel for what you definitely do or don't want. While to parts? Secular or not? Presumably not, since you ordered Henle, but that kind of thing. You might also be able to find which ones are a good lead-in to Henle, if that is where you want to end up. That might require a lot of background reading and ninja internet search skills.
  10. My first-hand comparison is limited to the fact that while I can afford Snap Circuits, I haven't yet found a price point I can live with for Little Bits. Haha! They sure look cool!
  11. After my first two dc I decided to wait to start spelling until third grade for my youngest. It was confusing and frustrating and I didn't really see retention before that. Now my olders are zipping along with much less angst. So there is one anecdotal reassurance that you could actually just drop it for a bit.

    ...

I would do this weekend's trip. Then I would back out, trying not to burn bridges with the radio people. In the New year, you and your kids can work up the most awesome kid-radio program ever to conveniently fill in the open time slot that will be left when this group flakes out or starts garnering fines from the FCC.
  13. Hugs. So sorry you have to deal with this.
  14. You should let it go because correcting her is way more likely to cause you problems than leaving her ignorance unchecked. If you want, you could compose an inspection of the inspection process. Don't send it though! This falls in the category of "you can't argue with crazy."
  15. Yes. In August it is usually 50% off. I think there may be a spring sale also? The discount depends on the number of orders, so I suppose it might not get to 50.
  16. Dodsworth in (various major cities) Underpants on My Head Commander Toad books Fox and His Friends All these have multiple books.
  17. I don't think OP was objecting to fund-raising costs, just pointing out that there is generally a significantly higher administrative cost when a third party is used to cold call trying to raise money. If you truly want to support a charity, find a way to give more directly, mail to them, website, you call the charity, whatever cuts it the middle-man.
  18. I remember the last book of Series of Unfortunate Events having some heavy relationship content, although I don't remember romance, per se. We are reading Percy Jackson number 1 right now and there is teen awkwardness and passing references to relationships between the gods, but so far, no romance. I couldn't get through How to Train, but the movie was romance-free, as I recall. Sorry I can't be of more help!
  19. Maybe I'm not picky enough for you, but I don't get any complaints about previously-frozen potato soup (with milk). I also do split pea and carrot.
  20. I got called out at an airport once. She said it was because they were all listening so attentively to a read-aloud.
  21. Don't feel too bad for the wastewater treatment plant guys, on the tour I was on they mentioned pulling money and even a diamond ring out of the strainers. Apparently his SO was ok with that. I agree that I was feeling totally shamed by not knowing this before now. I'll be sure to pass this knowledge on to the next generation.
  22. Gah. Add that phrase to the long list of involuntarily twitch-causing mannerisms. "I seen you had a chester drawers for sell () a mirror on top?"
  23. No "Wii-ing" in the house! If he doesn't use the other two, could you guide him through selling them and using the money for the Wii? Takes it off your list of things to deal with then. I don't feel like you really have to address not getting it for him head-on, either. Just a noncommittal,"hmmm, anything else?" Pass the bean dip, please. Now, weekday to get him instead...
