  1. How do you find the grammar catechism? I've eyed it a few times. Do you use just the catechism book orally?
  2. ODD is only in 7th, but we are planning to use the MFW high school plans which have English, composition, lit etc. integrated with the history/Bible. We will likely use One Year Adventure Novel also.
  3. I am looking ahead to high school (not far off for DD1) since she has expressed a strong interest in nursing. I would like her to have rigorous science in high school, but yet have courses she can do mainly independently (because I have so many little ones). Would the Kolbe science syllabi help her to use their recommended texts on a mostly independent basis or would I still need to do a lot of teaching? If thy are teacher intensive, can anyone recommend a rigorous yet independent option for high school sciences?
  4. As independent readers they would be for older kids. As read alouds they are written for first and up, the complexity increasing a bit with each book. We don't use SOTW ;). Just Guerber/Miller for all kids here who are PK-5th as a read aloud. Easy peasy :).
  5. Have you seen the Guerber/Miller books? Biblical history is integrated, just open and go. We are using The Story of the Ancient World happily this year.
  6. We plan to use MFW for all four years plus a Canadian social studies course as a side credit, 1/4 per year.
  7. Have you had them do the placement test? It's free online: https://www.clp.org/store/by_grade/21 Just test and buy the appropriate level. It is SO thorough, even if they don't make it through the whole series they should still get an awesome foundation if you use it for a few years.
  8. CLE. Incredibly independent in 2nd and up. Teaches diagramming. Incredibly thorough.
  9. Ah, I though you weren't too set on the Latin AP. No sure if Latin Alive will get you there in time. I believe it would require study in addition to the series.
  10. We are pretty settled on Latin Alive for high school. With the DVD teacher it is still much cheaper than an online class :).
  11. Can you let me know your thoughts on LOF? I was thinking of using it 1x/week with CLE. I don't want to buy it if it isn't worth it :).
  12. We do them. I don't always get around to checking daily work, quizzes let me know if everything is ok :).
  13. This is what I hope to so next year. Let us know how it goes?
  14. One hour makes a huge difference here. If we get up at 6 we get it all done before lunch. If we get up at 7 it takes ALL DAY. Personally, I hate afternoon school. :/
  15. You could email them? They were doing a limited time pre-order and are releasing it digitally in instalments. It's very good, but I think they are closed for orders until they print in the spring. You could maybe do a year of US history using America the Beautiful, then do Adam to Us next year when it is printed?
  16. We will be using America the Beautiful for 8th grade US history. It doesn't have fancy multimedia though :).
  17. Yeah. Week 4 was totally craptastic here. My 7th grader sucks at multiplication. Here's to hoping we can get it nailed this year.
  18. I bought it for 5 at CBD. And it's good, too :).
  19. We do memory group all together. Or it doesn't get done :). I am doing an ongoing cycle and memory work changes every 6 weeks and the old work goes into review. All of my kids should hit all of it eventually or hear it enough to memorize it. :). The longest memory subject rotation is 6 years, some are 2, others 3. So, the 4-year old learns what we are all learning, basically. :)
  20. CLE LA is incredibly independent. I highly recommend it.
  21. I am keeping ahead of DD1 in GSWL. I finished mastering my math facts with Xtramath, so I'll next be working on the CLE skill development books (fractions, geometry, algebra) to prepare for pre-alg for DD1 next year.
