  1. I've used the Read Aloud Enrichment manual from Memoria Press for K this year. We have enjoyed it immensely. I ended up purchasing many of the books we borrowed from the library because they were so rich and my son asked to read them over and over. The science books they use have been favorites of mine for years "Let's Read and Find Out" series and Gail Gibbons books. I didn't care for the MP Enrichment Art's and Crafts book (it was a waste of money for me). We ended up using Wee Folk Art for craft suggestions. I am debating buying the entire curriculum for 1st grade but I think I'm going to purchase the Read Aloud Enrichment and Science again for 1st then piece together the other things I like. We use Saxon 1 for Math right now...MP uses Rod and Staff which I have no experience but Saxon is working well for us so I want to continue with it. I like their recommendations for phonics and grammar, so I may use those things next year....still haven't decided. I also love the look of the MP Storytime treasures for next year.
  2. I am finishing up our K year with my son. We started the year doing Shiller Math (because I already had it on hand) which was really easy for him. After several months I switched him to Saxon Math 1 which we love and he is doing great. There is a lot of practice and repetition with new math concepts but my newly turned 6 year old doesn't seem to mind it.
  3. I agree with this! We love Wee Folk Art Homeschool book and craft suggestions. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Memoria Press Read Alouds for Enrichment and Science. MP uses wonderful children's books and then my favorite science series of books "Let's Read and Find Out" and Gail Gibbons books.
  4. This!!! We started with OPGTTR, got through all the letter sounds and then hit a wall at lesson 28. So I switched to 100 EZ Lessons. We made it to lesson 30 and he began to hate it. He would cry when I got the book out, so I put it away, regrouped and reevaluated. We stuck with the ETC books A-C (which we had been doing all along since the beginning) and then moved on to ETC Book 1 along with Starfall practice of the letter vowel we are studying. I bought Primary Phonics along with the readers which are along the same lines as the ETC work books but I wanted extra practice AND I wanted the primary phonics readers. May seem like overkill but it is working for us.
  5. I bought the lesson plans too and use them as a guide for what to do each day. The Enrichment book goes into more depth, for instance, it gives you discussion questions to ask before reading the story while taking a picture walk. You also get vocabulary words to go over with the child from the text of the story. The Enrichment Book does not plan out each day. The lesson plans are designed to be for a five day school week, however, you can easily move more things to one day and skip a few days.
  6. Wee Folk Art. It's a free curriculum with excellent arts and crafts suggestions. I am using MP Enrichment as my main literature source but I am using Wee Folk Art for the study of the seasons, book suggestions and the awesome craft suggestions. Edited to add there is a FB group of those using WFA for other suggestions as well.
  7. I am using it now with my 5.5 year old. I bought it about 7 years ago and had it tucked away. When I started out with it at the beginning of August, we would sit with the book and I would read the script word for word. The five vowels poem was NOT catchy to me and I found myself struggling to get it right. Then I remembered, the set I bought came with a CD. I found my CD and I play each lesson for my son. I begin each lesson with the flash cards and have him tell me the letter and it's sound, then I push play on the CD player for him to learn the new letter of the day. I set the CD player to repeat and the lesson repeats over and over while he traces the letter of the day (I use the free letter tracers from Jan Brett). So far this is working for us. I am also using ETC Book A at the moment to give him extra letter work and activities. The activities in this book are really easy for him but I think he likes it because it's easy and gives him a sense of accomplishment.
  8. I have a 5 1/2 year old. We started working on school work in the beginning of August. I am using an older version of Shiller Math and while I like it I feel like I need something a little more concrete. I've looked at Saxon, has anyone skipped Saxon K and gone directly into Saxon 1? I looked at the readiness test and it looks like my son may be ready for Saxon 1, I was going to hold off on purchasing Saxon 1 until January when he turns 6 and I've gotten a little more mileage with the Shiller Math.
  9. I have a 5 1/2 year old. We very loosely did Wee Folk Art last year, very loosely (some of the crafts were too hard for my boy at that age). This year we are picking and choosing from Wee Folk Art as an addition for our arts and crafts (I LOVE the arts and crafts in WFA) but we are using the structure of Memoria Press Kindergarten Enrichment. I LOVE MP enrichment. I bought the lesson plans and follow them. We veered off course a little and have followed rabbit trails when discussion about a topic leads to another topic, so right now I am off schedule, but we will get back on. I own FIAR but have never really liked the flow. We used it mainly for book suggestions.
  10. While browsing Amazon this morning, I noticed the Liberty Kids Complete Series DVD is only $7.44. We own the series and my kids have always enjoyed it. http://www.amazon.com/Libertys-Kids-The-Complete-Series/dp/B00CMDPTTA/ref=pd_bxgy_74_text_y
  11. I just ordered the new print version for Fall and Winter, they haven't arrived yet. I am hoping to use them in addition to the Memoria Press Read Aloud and Science Enrichment books. We very loosely followed the Fall and Advent Activities last year as my son was a 4 year old. This year we are going to be a little more serious so I thought I'd go ahead and spend the money (help support the hard work of those lovely ladies who put that together) and they weren't that expensive. Also if you buy the hard copy you can opt to get a free downloaded version as well.
  12. I have some of Millicent E. Selsam's books in my shopping cart at Amazon. It is sad that a lot of them are out of print.
  13. I don't know if you can get these books where you are but we LOVE the "Let's Read and Find Out" Series of science books I get mine from Amazon. Many of them discuss a topic and then offer suggestions for further reading and even an experiment you can try. Some other books I love to use along with this series are books written by Gail Gibbons. I don't know if that helps you. This is what I am using right now for my five year old.
  14. This is me. I love the book list from Sonlight and Memoria Press. I don't know if I want to buy the whole curriculum or just use the book list as a jumping off point and go from there for my five year old.
  15. I am beginning to think I may just buy the Memoria Press K and just go from there. It seems open and go, does anyone have any experience with this? I am not familiar with the math used by MP.
