  1. Do they administer the exams online? No AP testing schools in our neck of the woods. :/
  2. Get Melissa and Doug crayons. They are indestructible. Unlike Crayola. Just found them this year. One set of 24 a few months ago and NO broken crayons! You don't want to know how many we went through before.
  3. My DD placed in the 200s at the start of 4th. CLE did wonders for her confidence.
  4. It is all inclusive and rigorous. Add their reading course for literary terms ad poetry.
  5. We are using EIW for 7th as well. It sounds like what you're looking for :).
  6. If anyone says they never feel this way...they haven't been homeschooling for very long. I really really considered quitting after the twins were born. But it isn't an option for us either. 1. Take a break from school right now. At least a week. Try to take walks outside. 2. What are you using for school? Is everything independent that can be? That helps a lot here. Teacher intensive or complicated hands-on fries my brain. 3. Cutting back to 3Rs is a time tested survival solution for us as well. Hugs.
  7. I had a math crier too. CLE saved the math day here. We are all about the spiral :). MUS and MM were our flops before finding it. You can just buy a LU or two and try it, small investment of money and time :).
  8. Hmmmm. It looks like two full LA loads to me :). For those grades we use CLE LTR/LA/Reading for 1st, then CLE LA/Reading for 2nd-3rd. It's enough, honestly. It's already a full LA curriculum. And the best thing is it keeps me from having to flip back and forth between so many books and programs :).
  9. CLE is more flexible than many, but you do need to take 3 credits of their offerings each year.
  10. Apologia has zoology texts for elementary.
  11. My DD1 is also 12/7th and using the 500s :). We started the 200s in 4th. This year I am planning to accelerate a bit, do 501-606/7 or so, then Saxon 87 for 8th. Algebra in 9th.
  12. FYI, CLE has a very affordable fractions practice book here: https://www.clp.org/store/by_course/170 It also includes decimals and percents.
  13. https://www.clp.org/store/by_course/170 Here you go! They can be tricky to find :).
  14. For us, it was definitely the lack of spiral review that led to lack of retention. CLE was and is our math hero. If fractions are the only weak spot in the placement test, I'd get CLE's fraction practice book. It teaches all the fraction concepts in CLE from 200-800. No spiral review, just fraction lessons as though each concept was new to the student. I might work on that for a few weeks and retest.
  15. CLE = Math Hero DD1 lost two years to MUS, continual reteaching, and not enough review. Then we had a layover in MM territory. Crazy tight page layout, it was a fight to get two pages done. CLE = love DD1 was convinced she just couldn't so math. Turned out she just needed a good spiral! Going on our fourth year, all the children use CLE now :).
  16. Thank you for the evaluation! I struggled mightily with high school math when I went through, so I am pretty in the dark when it comes to evaluating the math components. The worldview/history focus is why it seems appealing. My main feeling of concern came from how many math topics they are attempting to integrate in a short period of time (only 100 lessons). I thought it might be too fast for us.
  17. This looks intriguing. Higher math is still over my head, but do any mathy parents have thoughts to share? http://www.diveintomath.com/elearning-course-for-shormann-algebra-1-with-integrated-geometry/
  18. She is using GSWL at a very relaxed pace right now to see if she's still interested by the end of the year. I don't plan on starting Latin before 6th with any of our children. Of all the suggestions, I actually think FFL is the most like CLE. It is very no-nonsense, incremental, and grammar focused. And it includes diagramming. I actually have level one. It differs from CLE in that it has many pieces (student text, student workbook etc.) and (if I remember correctly) has more of a weekly lesson flow instead of daily lessons. However, I don't think we want to spend four years covering Latin grammar before being able to read. Two years seems more common...and more concise also. Henle, oh my. Honestly, the layout almost terrifies me! TGLA - I like the emphasis on noun case usage! but it is a very slow start to the full grammar. I'm not sure if I want her to spend a full year working within first (and maybe second...I can't quite recall) declension nouns. Particularly after GSWL, since it does cover those. I also can't quite visualize the lesson flow. Latin Road - I tried using Phonics Road. It was a disaster. There wasn't enough written instruction (very DVD based) and I am NOT an audio based learner. I need much more text to work with. Somebody should write CLE Latin!
  19. I think I've been 'finalized' three times! I'm so bad! We are almost three weeks into the school year and I am still tweaking!
