  1. For us, CLE is enough until the 600s. We do oral narrations for Bible study, written narrations in history, and CLE is just about right for what I feel children should do at young ages. We do supplement starting in the 600s as I feel children should have more, and there is very little writing in 6-7. Not enough for those grades in any case.
  2. Low thyroid. Are you feeling depressed? This happened to me after baby 3. Great handfuls of hair and depression. Go have your levels checked. Hugs. Iodine really helped me.
  3. Have you looked into CLE? We really like it. Comprehensive, encourages independence, teaches all the 'little stuff'.
  4. We didn't meet on Ashley Madison though. Cough. For the record. :P It was a vegetarian dating site. Sort of niche. We'd both been veggies for 12-13 years. Ironically, we started eating meat after our first child was born. Here's the proof! https://www.veggiedate.org/testimonials.cfm Scroll way down to the 2001 section, or do a search for Larry. He's the guy in the grey suit! Slightly new agey phrasing :P. I was an atheist witch, he was a MMY bum hopper. Also ironically we were born again after our 2nd DD was born. Life is funny that way.
  5. I met DH on an online dating site. Proposed after 3 weeks, married at 3.5 months. Still married, 14 years this fall.
  6. I'm the target audience. I had a membership for two years. Decided to spend the money on books instead. ;) That being said, I received their newsletter and never once saw a call to political action that wasn't directly related to homeschooling. Updates about the homeschooling situation in Quebec, yes. (Whoo boy.). Unrelated political campaigning, no. Maybe it's the Canadian difference.
  7. DH was part of the TM movement for years (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi), decades really. Traveling, working at their health retreats, seminars, European HQ, cooking, agricultural advising etc. quite extensively. He still makes a mean kichari.
  8. We love Pluto. My kids learn it with a disclaimer. Cultural literacy I call it.
  9. My children are wildly independent in their work. Are you just wanting to add some extra work or to replace mom intensive subjects? My first recommendation is CLE if you want full subjects.
  10. We generally use The Beginner's Bible. We've done old and new editions. I think the hardcover binding sucks on both. The end papers aren't heavy enough for the weight of the book so it tends to pop out of the case around here. We now own the Kindle version. We also have the Beers but I like The Beginners Bible better.
  11. Because the other levels are 1/2 year courses if done daily, it's okay to slow down some of the full year courses as well, IMO. If you like them, just do them at the pace your schedule allows. CLE Reading is Dd2's favorite subject ;).
  12. Ah. I hear you, completely. DD1 thrives on CLE's spiral, and I don't want her to forget either. An option I considered is doing a once a week review of some sort throughout high school if the Latin isn't enough to keep things fresh. Analytical Grammat has resources for this following their program. She has done CLE LA 400 and up. We ended up skipping part of the 600s (606 and up) last year because it was a bit nutso for us, but she just finished 702 and is doing fine. Next year I really want her to focus more in whole literature and composition and I don't want to overwhelm her with LA...hmmmm.
  13. We have a Classics Starts. I quite like it. I like a lot of what Sterling produces.
  14. This. For years. It's not the shower that makes me cry. It's washing dishes. I'm so so thankful for hot running water. I was out of commission for a month or so after a bad burn when I spilled a bucket of boiling water on my foot when I was carrying it from the wood stove to the sink. It was terrible. I should have gone to the doctor sooner. :/
  15. More kids does not a clean house make. EBF baby twins. The house could look better. ;)
  16. This may be an odd subject combination ;). DD1 in 7th is on course to finish CLE LA 700 this school year. Part of me would like to see her stay the course and finish the 800s, just for the sake of....completion? Closure? Realistically, she already knows far more grammar than most children ever will. She would really like to move on to Latin and has selected Latin Alive. For 8th...could we....(gasp)...not teach grammar and do Latin instead? I don't want her existing knowledge to atrophy, but perhaps the Latin grammar would keep it fresh? I'm planning to use WWS1 for composition for 8th and ATB lit with some PP guides (which will replace CLE Reading) for reading. I've already told her we're just finishing up her spelling book then we are done with that. In 9th we are moving into the MFW high school progression. So, hit me with your thoughts? Does this sound like enough? Will I forever regret not doing the CLE 800s? Or should I just move on and do the happy dance that we've made it this far? ;)
  17. CLE does become much less phonetic in the 300s in both LA and Reading.
  18. You can do it. But you can't do it without it changing your homeschool. :). I also don't think it sounds like that is really the determining factor for you :). There are a lot of great, independently geared resources out there :).
  19. DD just bought Audible versions of some of her faves in conjunction with Kindle books. Cheap deal. $4 for Kindle book, $4 for audio companion = $8 total.
  20. Also...rotating? We put our kids to bed with a small selection of their favourite books. Heaven forbid of one suddenly rotated out of the pool. Although...I think most of them are credit worthy right now. And yes, "as long as you are an active member." Honestly, I'm on screen 5 of the unsub process. It's a looooong one.
  21. Here's what they say: "You can listen to it as many times as you want! As long as you're an active member, it will be fully available to you to enjoy whenever you wish without ever needing to use a credit to access it again." Still not sure what we will decide to do. DH and DD1 were voracious Scribd audio users.
  22. I just pushed the button on a 1958 Collier's Junior Classics set. Special thanks to Lori D. for all the synopses she has posted.
  23. Us. Sob. I sent them an email asking if we could keep access to the book we spent our credit on or not. :(
