  1. I have only one child and it is very handy for school and other projects. Gathering schoolwork is so much easier now. I just grab the book the book I made and it's all there neatly together.
  2. I had started with SOTW but honestly I think it's too much for us. I lose my son because it's so long and drawn out. It's not because my son can't understand it, he has an extensive vocabulary, but it's just soo much, even broken down. I agree with Hunter, I am leaning more toward short and choppy for lessons, and leaving extensive vocabulary for literature that he really enjoys to listen to. I think now we'll just do History pockets from Evan Moore and save my SOTW for another year.
  3. so so true. people that geniunely love it do it independently. I liked the curriculum just fine, but the pressures from the school were too much. Even not doing all the work, it was still a ton to do for Kindy. If I could have cut half off the music and art, and gone at my own pace for history I would have been happier. I hated getting warnings daily when I didn't log attendance by 4pm. Much of our work was done in the evenings. I hated being told we were behind because I wasn't doing history as fast as they wanted me to.
  4. I've only used GwG 1 but we love it. My son actually asked to do two lessons the other day. Iwas going to use WWW with it but since I have teacher file box I'm going to use those resources.
  5. K12 is a lot of work. So if your son is complaining now, that probably won't stop. Unless you have a motivated learner, you have to stay on top of them to get all the work done on time. Depending on your state, there are daily attendance requirements to be met, online classes, either weekly or daily, work samples every quarter along with teacher phone conferences. And then there is study Island, which was torture for my son. You could try it for a semester and see how it goes. I have found some people love it, but a great deal of people that I know that use the public school option have a hard time with all the requirements.
  6. My dh is from Northern Arkansas! I live in the state I'm from, in a different town. I feel at home. I've also lived in two other states and felt at home. I doubt if I would feel at home in the north or out west tho. Weather is too different. I would never feel happy with cold or snow. It makes me so very miserable. I love the south and I think I would feel at home anywhere here.
  7. If you grow certain kinds of kale it is wonderfully tender. My dad grew some this winter that was very mild and tender. Steamed down with a little butter it was superb! I also have a bean soup recipe that you throw a handful of kale into. I've used even bitter kale that I grew and it tasted just fine in the soup.
  8. I didn't read all posts but I love my vitamix. I got a qvc special two years ago. It is worth every single penny I paid. I love to freeze raw cabbage ands then put it in a smoothie. It blends so beautifully and quickly without breaking a sweat. My favorite recipe is frozen banana, frozen pineapple, frozen mango, with plain yogurt. Add a little water and blend. Better than any ice cream! I like to buy fruit when it's a good price and freeze it. Pineapples freezes very well. Purple cabbage does too.
  9. We don't do it every evening, simply because I'm tired, but my son thrives on doing his schoolwork at night. He is a true night owl. The later it gets, the happier he is. He will ask to do work at night, even household chores. In the morning, forget it! I say do what works best for her, especially with her health issues.
  10. I got a top of the line lg washer and dryer and love them. Just had them six months tho. My mom has Samsung washer and she hates it. I have a Samsun g DVD player and we hate it. I refuse to buy Samsung. Had a whirlpool washer that only lasted five years. Dryer lasted only two before it had to be fixed. I stay away from whirlpool. Have a may tag dishwasher that has worked perfectly for 13 years. I don't remember what my fridge is....
  11. I ve in the south but due to age I have dryer skin.olive oil and coconut oil both burn my skin. I can use oil of Olay sensitive skin formula and Clinique moisture surge. I also use a moisturizer from Clinique for redness. So far they have worked for me. I'll have to grabs bottle of cetaphil and equate neutropenia and see how they work.
  12. Some days my son wants to do more than one lesson, sometimes not. I go with the flow.
  13. Has he had a cold recently? My son just got over a cold and a day or two after he complained of severe leg pain, was limping and crying. It's part of the virus, called acute benign myelitis, or something like that. I'd take him into the dr tho, it could be something else.
  14. Christopher Timothy does a wonderful job with the James Herriot books. Patricia Routlege for Beatrix potter Barbara CAruso has grown on me. I don't know the woman's name but she reads the Clovis Crawfish books. Wonderful southern accent! Oh and whoever reads John Grisham. He's good too. I don't get to listen to a lot if audiobooks unfortunately.
  15. Oh I am having a fabulous time downloading and organizing materials! Love it! I can pull things from several different books. First lesson in Daily science 2 is life cycles and talks about kangaroos the first week. I found a bunch of other stuff on kangaroos and marsupials we can do all week. I wish I had known about this for kindy. I am thrilled. After saving to PDF, you can upload it to Dropbox, which if you have installed on your iPad, will put it on your iPad and you don't need to print some things. Works great!
  16. Wow! That is unbelievable! Even Josie Pye wouldn't be wearing a plaid shirt like that. Don't remember if she was blond in the book, but she was a blond in the movie. Glad they removed it. Certainly does not belong on the cover! My books don't have Megan follows either, I got them before the movie, 1980 or about then.
  17. I think I would love that if my son was comfortable with it and he learned something.
  18. From what I understand you have to pay, then get three days to try it out and if you don't like it then cancel and you'll get your money back. No free trial with the co-op price.
