  1. LOL! I learned that from others on the board and playing around with it. The site totally did not appeal to me until I learned that small fact!
  2. I enjoy the Tillerman saga as well. I like Cynthia voight books. Have you read her book Izzy Willy Nilly? I think it is a must read for teens. I've given it to several girls.
  3. I don't this I've ever read les mis. The battle would bore me but I actually like to read about convent life! I have enjoyed books about convents such as In this House of Brede, The Nuns Story, and Through the Narrow gate.
  4. P Oh that's too bad. It was still on sale early this afternoon. Hate it when I miss those brief sales...
  5. I adore Joy in the MOrning. Tomorrow will be better is similar, but a bit darker. I still love it tho. I may go pull it off my shelf and read it again. I find Maggie now a little dull. It's about a girl same as the other, but I don't know, it annoys me.
  6. HUGS! I would take a break. A long one if you need to. Public school kids get three months off in the summer. There is nothing saying you can't take three months off in the winter! We took January, and a good part of February off. I do not function well in the winter time. Hope the shingles go away soon. It's no picnic.
  7. All This and Heaven too is really good. Long, but good. Bette Davis did the movie.
  8. I absolutely love turnips! I just peel them, quarter, and lighty steam until tender, then butter and salt. Yum! If they aren't grown right and allowed to be too big they can be bitter. But well grown, young turnips are sweet.
  9. I haven't read it but it has been on my amazon wish list for a while. I've been declUttering for a while. Every other month or so I go through DS toys and throw out or give away stuff. Like a previous poster mentioned, you have to consider your own situation. I won't get rid of his large Thomas collection, his blocks, his heavy equipment collection or his stuffed animals. He plays a lot with all of those things. He has a very vivid imagination and always has something going. We don't schedule extra activities or clubs, etc. not available in our area. We are very much home bodies. Biggest thing would be tv. My dh watches it a lot at night when I want it off. He just changed jobs where is home evenings so its been an adjusting time for us. We are hopefully going to be moving soon so I'm trying to get rid of stuff to fit into the new house as it has one less bedroom. I need to finally get the book and get motivated to the changes I want to make! Thanks for posting this!
  10. Also a little known book called Thorpe by Mary Dutton. Similar to kill a mockingbird. I did Atticus's last courtroom speech for speech class in high school. One of my favorite books. I have a nephew whose baby girl is named Scout. I actually think they should have named her Jean Louise and called her Scout if they really wanted to be true to the book. .. The movie is awesome. One of those rare ones that enhance the book. Gregory Peck is a perfect Atticus. Yes if you love Anne of green gables you must read the rest! I can never decide which are my favorite of the sequels. I think Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, and Anne of ingleside.
  11. Thank you sooo much! I had been looking at this printer but it was over $100. I was waiting to see if it went on sale. I appreciate the heads up!
  12. I don't care for it either and neither does my son. However he does like mother goes nursery rhymes so we've done some of those.
  13. I have the CD. I wouldn't want the text as we don't use most of it. We do a lot orally or on he whiteboard. I have it downloaded onto my iPad as well.
  14. but it is not based on real people's lives is it? The setting is in a certain time period so these people are affected by the world's situations, but the people themselves are not real historical figures. So it doesn't matter, to me, how they treat their servants. Besides the fact, there POSSIBLY could have been an exception to the rules of the time. Remember Lady Grantham is American. She might not have the same views as other English gentry. I honestly couldn't watch a show where servants are treated like dogs. I know it was the scenario back then, but it still bothers me greatly. I didn't like the book Nanny Diaries because of how badly the nanny was treated.
  15. my son started working the computer on his own at 2.5. We just got the ipad this past summer, at age 6. I don't really limit time on them too much, not during winter anyway. It's too wet and nasty outside and we've had several colds. He plays on them a while then goes and does something else.
  16. As in "slightly alive. " Couldn't resist....
  17. I don't care if it's factual, I like it that they portray them as caring to their house servants. Maybe not true to life, but it's more humane. Who needs factual? Now if it were a historical drama portrayed that would be different. I couldn't watch the Other Boleyn Girl because it was so wrong.
  18. Yes, each workbook has a number. You can go on amazon, look at the sample pages and find the number. oR, when you print out a sheet, there is a number on the bottom. That is the book number. So if you print out one civil war pocket, just put int the search box that number and only pages from that book will come up. I tried it just looking at it, can't print anything, and it works!
  19. If you put the book number in, then only those sheets will come up.
  20. I've wondered this! My six year old is a wonderful child.he is so loving and sweet, I often wonder if he will stay like that growing up!
  21. Depends on the children and the circumstances. If they seemed bored I might but my son is never bored with other children around, he is an only child. I'd usually just let them play and use their imaginations. School can be done any time 365 days out of the year. I don't think I would mess with his play time.
  22. My son doesn't know what it is, and I don't either. He loves angry birds, which I hope he grows out of soon...
  23. I keep all of my sons work. Do you think they mean the used pages? I mean, a lot of it is colored or cut out. Fill in the blank and such. I think in another thread someone said they called and asked about that. I think the reasoning is they don't want someone printing a whole bunch of stuff for years down the road. Which to me, you're paying for it all....
