  1. I don't have one either. From the reviews I don't want one.
  2. chrome allows me to print to pdf. chrome also remembers my password. I dearly wish they had an add ALL to the filebox. I hate having to click on each one individually, when I want the whole thing. I like to put it all on my computer and print from there, or I put it on my ipad via Dropbox. I use the Word for a day and some of the literature segments on there and I don't have to print at all. it does give you an option to print all or just print some. On printing options it will have a list of what you can print. You can print sections or all of it.
  3. I like that. That is my feeling these days. What gets done is the best for us.
  4. how nice for you! I dearly love the country.
  5. I use Daily Geography with my first grader. I like the simple instructions and how it gives practice for map reading. We usually do a week at a time, maybe once a week or so.
  6. I like the Evan moore daily science. I use it as a spine and jumping off place. THe lessons are very simple, on stuff DS knows we do a whole week in one day. I find other things to flesh it out a bit. Days we don't have time or he's not in the mood to do school the lesson is very short. I like having some sort of guide, just so I can see that something is done, but not one with a lot of info or scripted. I want to be able to just take a glance and go. This is in addition to studying different bugs or animals that he shows an interest in, or nature videos we watch. So I guess I mix formal with informal. Works for us.
  7. our state requires it. Ours is Twin Oaks Academy. We often do our schoolwork in warm weather under the two oak trees in our backyard. It's our favorite place to do our schoolwork. I'm also not very inventive or imaginative...
  8. My dr told me it takes a week for recover from anesthesia. Besides the fact it was an assault on your body. Being on your cycle at the same time was a double blow. Give yourself time, eat healthy, and recover.
  9. oh mercy, I never thought about that!!!
  10. is there a reason you want to change? Personally I'd stick with MM2. It's a very nice continuation of MM1. Since you're just finishing MM1, you could skip the entire first section of 2 since it is just a repeat of the last section of 1B. For that reason I just skipped the last part of 1B and went to 1A. As we're doing school through summer I saw no reason to do that whole section over again back to back.
  11. I had it free for three months. Barely used it. I also found the materials lacking and the site slw and pretty much unusable. I like Teacher Filebox much better.
  12. From what I understand you don't get a free trial with the discount.
  13. I'm intrigued by KISS, can someone explain it to me, I have to leave so can't go look it up, but when I can get back I can look at a quick rundown. :)
  14. I use it and we like it fine. i do find it is repetitive so I skip it if my son knows it. I don't just hand it to him, we discuss it. Right now it's easy stuff so I'm using it as a quick review. THe only new thing was subject and predicate. At first my son didn't seem to get what a subject was so I passed over it. Two days later he clearly explained what it was, so I think retention for him is good. The simplistic language and approach woks well for my 6 yo. i think it would be way too easy for an older child or a child that likes more complicated subjects. I haven't decided what we'll do when we're finished with it, FLL 1 drives me crazy so I might just go to FLL 2.
  15. I had cats that lived completely outside for years. They were neutered and actually never left our property. It was mother and son, they stayed always within a couple of feet from each other and they stayed by my house. My indoor at liked to visit outside and she would visit the neighbors occasionally. My neighbor feeds all stray cats, has about thirty of them. Half of them are at my house... Any pet I have ever had has loved being outside. It is healthy for them. I always brought them in at night.
  16. I go to the evan moore website and look there, then I type in the book number. Or I'll type in a subject. I don't know how good it is for the upper grades but I've found lots of neat stuff for first grade. All kinds of literary and science activities.
  17. wow, that's amazing! I've tried to get my son to write thank you notes and he tells me "Why can't I just call them?
  18. Jealous Our library is a city library and not parish. Only parish in the state with no parish library. Our fines are smal three cents per day. But I would pay more for better service... Parking is terrible too. I just don't find the library here a good resource. We have so many books ourselves that going to the library just means my son plays on their computers.
  19. 6 of anything per card. That means it doesn't matter if it's books or videos, you can only have six items at one time. I can't believe someone is complaining about 50. I'd be happy with ten. My library doesn't have that much I want. I do much better at goodwill.
  20. I got this one when it was on sale for $17 or so a few months ago http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Thermal-Laminator-Roller-TL901/dp/B0010JEJPC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363830391&sr=8-1&keywords=scotch+laminator I like it just fine. Takes a while to heat up but it laminates easily and fairly quickly. I don't know how versatile they can be.
  21. I didn't read all replies but for the 2nd half of first grade we actually don't do school every day. That doesn't mean we don't read, play outside and observe nature, or watch an educational video. It means no sitting down to formal lessons. I focus on math and reading, with science, grammar, geography, and history as extras. We're just now doing a more regulated schedule on those things. For my son, doing a lesson, then letting him take a five or ten min break helps. Letting him go outside after two lessons for 20 min is the next thing, then we can actually do two lessons back to back. Today we did Phonics (which was really spelling today), Grammar, math, Geography, With breaks it took about 1.5 hours. We will do our reading tonight.
