  1. DD is interested in self-studying for the AP art history test. Does anyone know what kind of text book to buy for this? Thanks so much!
  2. We have flown several times, and we would fly again. The money we saved was worth the inconvenience. They are super budget. So, no food or drinks unless you purchase items. The seats are closer together than other airlines, so this probably isn't the airline to fly if you are very tall or very big Read the fine print carefully.....they charge extra for everything. Your suitcase cannot weigh more than 40 pounds, it cannot exceed their dimensions. So, measure and weigh before you go. Know the rules before you go, so you won't be surprised. But, for us, it has been worth the money we save. We have a big family, so we RARELY fly anywhere. It has been worth it to save the money for us because it was every airline seat saved us money multiplied by the members of our family. Really, we have never had problems with Spirit. We were aware of what we were getting, knew the rules, and appreciated the savings.
  3. This is sad. But, I would talk to visit them on my porch.
  4. No way. No how. There are way too many severe thunderstorm warnings for me to want to have a weather radio screech at me. Tornado warnings, yes. But, we generally weather aware when there are moderate risks of tornadoes.
  5. Well, I had a good friend who was bipolar. He would swing from manic to depressed quite frequently because he hated taking medicine. While it was terrible and awful to be depressed sometimes I felt like the manic episodes really terribly affected his life because it was so hard for him to recognize. And, also because it the manic episodes seemed to make him feel better. But, because he didn't have the firmest grasp on reality and sometimes had grandiose ideas. If he was just a little bit manic, it was okay. He was able to be accomplish much, but still had some recognition of his abilities. It was when he swung heavily into the manic side that there were large problems. In just one instance he decided that he was going to play the cello, and you know what? He had played someone's cello and gosh he be was pretty good! So, he decided to buy himself a $7000 cello because well it was important to have a good instrument to practice on......... That decision wasn't financially responsible as he couldn't really afford it. Also, in reality, he wasn't the best cello player either. This is just one example of what might happen when he be was on the manic side. While he seemingly felt great, he wasn't realistic and the poor financial decisions he made eventually were devastating to him. Without medication he fell into this cycle again and again. He did not like taking the medicine especially when on the manic side.
  6. I wouldn't rush to the ER with these symptoms. No fever, I would wait and see if she gets better or worse.
  7. Please remember that your original post was JAWM. That may be one reason why you are receiving more of just one side of opinions. I absolutely loved Bridge to Terabithia as a child. It invoked such powerful feelings. I found it deeply moving and a powerful experience. So, while I hesitated to post because of the original JAWM, I thought it might be helpful for you to have a different opinion also even if it is not jawm. Your child is ALREADY reading it! Let him finish. He may not have the same experience as you.
  8. Go go go! I think you would regret it if you didn't go.
  9. So, I am an Amazon Prime member for other things than Subscribe and Save. In general my opinion has been that I can find most items for less at the store. But, I go shopping for my mother-in-law. She wears Depends, and I cannot get into a routine of buying these. I either buy WAY too many and then I forget to buy them. She will not tell me when she is running low. And, she has completely run out causing an emergency situation where I have to get them immediately! My solution right now is to do subscribe and save on Amazon Prime so that they are just delivered to the house every month. I am happy with this solution. So, here is my real question! You save more every month if you have 5 things delivered. Right now I cannot find five things that I think are a great deal, so I thought I would ask the hive. For those of you that do subscribe and save on Amazon Prime what have you found that you think is a good deal? Thanks so much!
  10. That does not sound like scabies. Scabies likes it where it is dark. She most likely has something else IMHO
  11. Yep. Apple cores out the window. Definitely when in the rural areas.
  12. Just FYI, Best Buy had $300 off coupons last August that they sent out to .edu emails in August. I bought me a new Mac last August with my daughter's coupon she got with her college email. Just FYI. You might want one quicker, but if you're not in a hurry, make sure to check it out!
  13. I think you should go to the blue book website and make certain that you have said it's in poor condition. Honestly, that price seems way too high. Could that price be for a car in better condition?
  14. You can buy Lodge cast stuff for cheaper than that. Maybe it's that expensive because of the shipping? Look around locally. Here they sell all kinds of lodge stuff at Academy. Also, once I noticed some small lodge stuff at Target. I'm sure you can find a better price!
  15. We were misdiagnosed with scabies. Then, we finally got our answer from a great dermatologist. My daughter had papular acro dermatitis. He explained several things. One, scabies is always in the darker areas of the skin. So, say in between the fingers, the bend of your elbow....etc. Unless scabies is very very bad you will not have it in areas that are more hit by the light, say the face, the outside of the arms. Also, scabies spreads very slowly. So, maybe it's not scabies. We were so happy to see a skin expert. Personally, I would think that it would not be easily transfered in a car.
  16. Have you considered an efficient wood burning fireplace? They have some really amazing ones that put out a ton of heat. And, obviously, you get the fireplace feel.
  17. We have the Freedom Alert. We have been very happy with it. It is something that you pay for outright, with no monthly fees. Over the course of the years, it has paid back itself. We are not interested in a button that has a monthly fee. So, We bought the Freedom Alert which comes with one pendant, and then in addition we bought the button that sits outside her shower. If the button on the Freedom Alert is pressed, it will call the first number programmed in....(my cell phone). If I don't press the number "5", it assumes that it has gone to voicemail, and will call the next number on the list. After it has gone through all the numbers, if no one has pressed the number "5" then it dials 911. The person wearing it talks directly through the pendant. Something that I feel is very important. It also works outside in the yard, and to the mailbox. I believe the total cost with the bathroom button was around $350 up front. But, there are no monthly fees with it. IMO For elderly, it is nice to have a pendant instead of a cell phone. There is one button to push. (You have to hold it down for 3 seconds for it to activate). With a cell phone, there is just more buttons to navigate. And, in an emergency or with a fall, our senior needs something that is very simple and clear to activate. I guess this just might be different with every senior, some seniors might better be able to navigate a cell phone in case of a fall, but not ours. It is a problem for her to wear it sometimes. Sometimes she feels that she doesn't need it. Sometimes she forgets to wear it. But, we just keep reminding her because we feel that it's the best option. I give high ratings to the Freedom Alert. It is easy to set up with the land line, and has worked very well for several years.
  18. I don't have any great ideas. But, one of my neighbors had this problem with another neighbor. She found that the cat didn't like the huge chunky mulch. She bought several bags and mulched under their bushes. Problem solved for them.
  19. Gosh, our limit is one week. Never gotten sick. I'm actually surprised to hear that some families toss at three days.
