  1. I'm going to look at the instant water heaters. I wish it wasn't a problem, as seriously, it takes her longer to shower... (long hair, shaving, etc.)
  2. Cool... I see that your husband designs knives, too!! Is that his main job? :) If we were closer, maybe he'd be at the Knife Show here, this wknd.... (He's not, is he?? It's in Eugene, OR)
  3. He was able to sell his knife to CRKT :) It was last year that he did the video, and now he is able to go to knife shows and have his own table. (Which is what this coming week is...)
  4. Right after grinding, the berry starts losing nutrition and actually the oil in it starts to "turn rancid"... It's also quite expensive. It's about $6.50 for organic 5 lb sacks... and about $11.00 for 25 lbs of berries... (I think that's the cost my mom just gave me) Also, you should actually mix in 3 grains when you do grains, to complement each other. And, leave a bit of the "whole grain" part if possible... (Have some "crunch" to at least some of the grain) Course, I get farm fresh eggs, too :) And... organic pretty much everything else. Still, a loaf of bread is under $1.00. If you get a breadmaker from say... a Thrift store, it's not too hard... then I stick it in the oven(I just use the dough cycle)...(Ugh... I have to make some more tomorrow :))
  5. Our dinner was actually great. Many times it's not what I'm hungry for... My husband roasted an organic Roast. My mom did a sweet potato casserole with crunch on top, potato bites with cheese, I did a from scratch green bean casserole. (I got the recipe off here at Christmas time, I think.... Even the onions were homemade... and all of it organic :)) Rice Krispies for the kids... And some Trader Joe's chocolate for my 8 year old son... :) I have to say... I made the green bean casserole, because my husband likes the Campbell's variety, and I can't handle making it. After all of the putting it together, I was pleasantly surprised... because fresh makes it GOOD! :)
  6. We live in a spot where others drive their children here, from out of district. When the school is right for my son.... I'll sign him up in a heartbeat. I really get tired of turning off the tv.... (No Electronics!!! If it needs batteries or a cord...it's a NO!) I'd love somewhere for him to be... even just play... for a few hours a day. It's not the "schooling" that's hard... it's the other bit of time! :)
  7. Yay!! I hope they turn out awesome, and, "He is risen indeed!!" :)
  8. I remember a story from VBS that must have made an impression, since it's been over 30 years since I heard it. A little boy was always selfish, and so his mom and grandma set out to show him how predictably and selfish he was. Everything that was "the biggest" was rotten for that holiday. (Thanksgiving?) And so he would grab the biggest apple... etc... and inside it was rotten. Sometimes.... in the right moment, a story about good/bad character can help :)
  9. Make sure it's legal in your state... Just as a side note. There have been many threads on here about problems... (and fines) with this..
  10. My mom grinds my flour for me. She just commented today that her wheat berries are $11 for 25 lbs. I'd consider just running berries through to make a ton of wheat, and then making up mixes for yourself. My mom was kind enough to do up four batches of pancakes and it was so wonderful. I just poured in the mix, an egg, milk and a bit of butter and presto.... Pancakes!! :) You can do the same thing with bread. It is just easier to make things when they are part way there... Also, as far as submitting, I'd encourage my husband to help me. As Christ loves the church is something that reference if I had resistance. Seriously, Christ calls husbands to care for their wives and families, and this goes beyond working at a job. Ask him for help :) PS, I do bread in a bread machine on the dough option and then transfer it to the oven, as I like the way it bakes there, better. My mom did the Bosch thing, when we were young and baked 6 loaves of whole wheat bread :) With the Saf-Yeast
  11. We do Co-op on Fridays, and we do SOTW there. We are using 6 years to cover the 4 books. That's about 1 chapter each week. Course... you could do it however you want :) I think 1 chapter a week is perfect and then reading about History on the other days, as a side thing :)
  12. I tried for some swim shorts, but they weren't quite right. I settled on a pair of my daughter's jean cut offs over my suit. I'm loving the "borrowing her stuff" phase!! :)
  13. I nursed until my son was almost 5. I had a few days at a time that I would be gone, and he still wanted to nurse when I got back. I guess it depends on how much they love it. He would have nursed till college if he could have ;)
  14. What a "Happy Easter" dress!! :) Congrats!!! Mine would still be in the cutting stages, if I had tried...
  15. Oh my word:( How horrible :( Just makes you sick to think about that :( Hope somehow the weekend brings a miracle
  16. Wouldn't do a "J" name for the middle... (OJ...no) But do know some Owens... the aren't whiny. Don't know if I'd like my teen being called "The Big 'O'." But, I suppose that'd be any "o" name. (Better than the small "o"... ;)) Hmmmm.... I always think of what kid's will be nicknamed...potentially at least... The one that I hear of the most has a last name that's French... The Dad is a cool guy and not whiny... the mom is beautiful!! The other names in the family are similar to Emily and Travis...
  17. This is what I had thought of doing, but found it to be an incredible amount of paperwork and the money part was crazy. I wouldn't go to a pet store and purchase one, but feel like I shouldn't have to pay for other's mistakes.... So, after rescuing dogs/cats and other animals my whole life, if I ever get another dog I will feel no guilt about purchasing a "properly" bred one. :)
  18. Here's the thing about meds... If it makes HIM feel better, I would. I told my husband that I wouldn't medicate him for US, but I would if it was for him.... How about if his brain is going so fast he can't calm...
  19. Thought about this thread today, when I went to a Theatre production of Busy Town. The person asked if it was at a school or just a theatre. I was a bit impatient not understanding why it mattered. Anyway, he said, "I'm packing" so I have to know if I should leave it in the car...... UGH;) I guess if a wild man came in to the theatre to kill all of us, at least one good guy (who knows how to shoot) would have had a gun...
  20. Good Ideas, everyone :) I wouldn't mind hearing more. Good to think about the biking, too! Right after he gets his cast off, we'll do that. He does Kempo for an hour about 5 times a week and does jumping jacks... all the time. (Because I tell him to...) I limit sugar, almost eat organic... try to make sure he gets protein... Seriously, it's an awesome thing to do the Biking. I have to remember that. When I was 8 it was different. I could bike from our house to the college my dad taught at, and bike as long as I wanted... And Kelly, yup... just about time to do a park day ;)
  21. So... question for you :) Has anyone had a child that they were wondering if they are "ADHD" or something similar and done a trial run of say.... Running with the child an hour a day or twice a day... or whatever. I'm looking at my son wondering if I should try a month of just running the hell out of him and seeing what his behavior is like.... Or if I should just go the "get him evaluated" and see how that works way. Trying to decide what I think about this..... I need a holiday!! :)
  22. Handwriting without Tears cursive. (3rd grade book with teacher's guide) I believe it makes the most sense, takes the best of everything. If you want bigger for your child, you could purchase is and make copies that you enlarge or kinda rig up the younger ones. I tried the "cursive first" from SWR and it didn't work at all for my son. With just a couple of lessons with HWOTs I could tell it was going to be a success!! :) And... if he wants to embellish that's not a problem, either :)
  23. :iagree: I wear mine :) It has a diamond... My husband hasn't worn his in years...
