I'm sure you already know that they can (perhaps only occasionally) be a side affect of certain meds. (You probably already knew this...) I'm really sorry :(

$70 extra so I get a bed. Seriously, about 1am I would be ticked that I wasn't comfie... and be wishing I had mortgaged my.... husband :) to get the extra bed :)

What would you do in this situation?
SonshineLearner replied to Nakia's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I would say that I agree with this, except for the pay part. Even if it's 10 minutes or so of her not being "taught"... well, to be honest she's getting much more than you're paying for. (with just getting to hang out and such) Especially considering that most hr lessons are actually 50 minutes, in my experience. I think talking to her about things will change your relationship, and I actually wouldn't choose to do anything except to mention to your daughter to make sure she's comfortable with the horse's mood before she rides... or is with them alone ;) Share how she could address the situation if she does think that the horse is having a nasty day.... -

What's the best way to learn the basics fast?
SonshineLearner replied to momoftwoinga's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
No tv :) Besides that books that would be good for his age and hopefully interest. I'd probably do Our Mother Tongue, if he was willing. For math, I'd try to make sure he understands the basics... and then use what you've decided... For writing, that's hard in 7 weeks. Someone with older kids can probably help with that, but I would make sure he understands the basic parts of speech that a sentence must have. Then I'd probably do some IEW with some other writing program. Is it Writing Strands that's suppose to be really simple and clear? Good Luck! Hope he wants to work with you! :) -
Don't know if anyone mentioned this school.... http://www.stannesacademy4girls.org/?q=node/68 They have a classical school with STEMS activities, too... At least that's what I think it is ;)

My 8 year old was discussing the lack of reasoning behind the gods being made at each other, yesterday. How cute! The story was cute, but I can't remember it.... You know... the god who ate his sons except for one of them... or something like that. He has the most incredible memory when it comes to Myths... and lots of other info :) He is also great at remembering all the moves in his Kempo class. Last week I watched a CHADD video about remembering the good points of your child, and identifying their strengths to help you deal with their struggles. I need to just record all the information he needs to learn on cd, so he can listen from 8pm-11pm when he's awake... and I want to clobber him :) Instead he listens to Mark Twain (and oops... have to remind him about words that aren't ok) and Myths about children being eaten :)

Teaching in a niqab (discuss)
SonshineLearner replied to mamakimberly's topic in General Education Discussion Board
But, I would not send my child to school with someone teaching in a bikini. So, in other words, someone who wears something that I don't agree with in their personal, private life... who comes in clothing I can agree with to teach at school... is probably someone I could allow to teach my child. -

anyone have rubber mulch for playset?
SonshineLearner replied to hollyh's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There are charts to show how deep your area must be, under structures. They take into account how high up your child might fall from, as well as what material you're using. I checked into getting the rubber, but ended up with pebbles.... very deep ones ;) -

Ballet - the final heartbreak

I feel your pain! :) My daughter has danced since 4 and now as a freshman "to be" she is going to do cheer. I've also heard that dancers make really great martial arts students... that was my back up plan for my daughter. (great exercise, too!!) Sorry for the loss and hope for something to fill the space in your child's life! -
As far as legally, it may or may not be your responsibility to cover your child's mistake. Of course, being a good neighbor, you will. I would think that's within $100 of the other estimates you might receive. My son did "art" on my van door twice..... URGH :( But... in a few years, this too will pass :)

I have to say that I would :) I'd just move furniture and pop up their "room" for them. I'd actually probably move my kids around if I had more than one room for them.... and then the kids would have one big sleepover and the parents the other room. Then I'd plan on activities outside the house to get everyone some of their own time. Of course, I'm just all about family... and getting together. Regretfully, I don't get to see extended family much :(

WWYD: Sunday school paranoia
SonshineLearner replied to shinyhappypeople's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I would talk to the person higher up who's in charge. I would explain that I feel like it's best for my child to remain with the older routine of taking them to their class and greeting their teacher and helpers with them. I would share this information and then ask how we could come to a mutually satisfactory exchange. Then I would come to the end of that sentence and just wait..... (The first person to talk, loses.... that's the rule, right??!! :)) If that didn't work, and it might take a 5 minute wait.... which seems like a few lifetimes.. I'd go to the pastor... and if that doesn't work I'd have my kids sit in the service... (Is that allowed?) -
Classical Conversations-If You've Done It

BTW, there are tons of threads on here about CC :) You can get a good idea about pros and cons from them. The program is pretty consistent from one area to another... -
You can be on the program to get reimbursed for formula... I think :) Maybe it's a money thing? It's cash for them. Seriously, I'd probably have to turn them in if they left your program because of this. I would explain that I'd get closed if the child whatever it is where you live... place found out about 2% milk. :( Way sad for that baby :(

Where would you prefer a giftcard to?
SonshineLearner replied to Prairie~Phlox's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Any gift card but ... well... I try not to do Walmart. I also like the "Visa" giftcards you can get at the bank :) -
I'm thinking of becoming a reading tutor using Barton's.... My friend has been using it and says it's simple to learn a lesson, then teach it. :) I love hearing the success!! :)

What were your baby "must haves"?
SonshineLearner replied to AimeeM's topic in General Education Discussion Board
SO, mine would be organic baby formula. They'll send you a free sample..... (I'm assuming that you're needing to do formula, and the good thing is you can find it now without high fructose corn syrup. There's some with rice syrup, I think... which out of the choices would be my first choice. I would also look at adding Organic Coconut Oil, because it's been proven to add the stuff for brain power... :)) For carseat, I'd probably get the Britax that you can carry around... And I love the Ergo for baby carrier. You'd need a baby insert. :) Ultimate Baby carrier is nice if you want a "Moby type" carrier, for less. I like a wool mattress, as it makes it so your baby doesn't breathe fumes from the plastic coated mattresses. :) I would do cloth diapers :) I love cloth from either washing it or having a service. It's just as inexpensive to order them... rather than disposables :) Or, there are disposables that don't have the chemicals now, too! :) Also, I love having some good stuff for you!! :) It's nice to give yourself treats... I suggest some chocolate... and some frozen dinners... either bought or made prior and stuck in the freezer. :)
