  1. So sorry :( Prayers for that peace ... when you know it's the right thing, but it's... just...so... hard :(
  2. I've read enough info out there, that I believe it's better to start with cursive. (and that it helps reading development... and more) I tried the program with SWR... Cursive First but my son just couldn't get it. We went to Handwriting Without Tears. It's been awesome! It's easy... it's very "clean" and just really worked for us. (Including how to hold his pencil. The "Pencil flip" worked ....after I had tried for 3 years... in about 10 minutes.... Anyway, just a thought... it was a pretty inexpensive program, and he can add loops later ;)
  3. i actually think it's kinda pretty :) And, because I hate to spend lots of money on a one time dress... The price was great :)
  4. Hey Y'all! Just wondering why her posts went to "guest" and no post count:bigear:
  5. I would like all parents to be sent a check, or offered a refund...I think that "per child" they should give.... 30% to administration, 25% to a general "school fund" for the district and then 45% to a school of your choice... or maybe 30% if they are "homeschooled". No strings attached. That'd turn out to be maybe $4500 if you did private... and $3000 if you hs. For a few people, they wouldn't do what's right... but I think most would. ALSO, it would make the Public School more accountable to the parents... as the parents would remember that THEY (and we) are actually contributing the tax money for their students to be there... :)
  6. My daughter started borrowing the house phone at 11 and got "her own" at 12. :) My step-daughter we gave one to a bit earlier... Maybe 10?? :)
  7. I have to say that my brother and I are almost 6 years apart. I really wanted a brother, and there was interaction as children. As adults, I'm not sure my life it very enriched for having him. Kinda sad... I love him.. but we're just so different. And, it just makes me remember that you have kids because of what YOU want to do with them... not so they can have each other. On that.. there's really no guarantee...
  8. Is there a name for our club? My daughter is 12 and it looks like I have a few more years of membership, regardless of the fact that I swore that the "bad mom" club would be one I wouldn't join. I am usually the "worst stupid mom" and every once in a while... I am the "best mom" until I ask something horrible like... "would you pick up your dishes?" Then... I "can't even wait a second!!" and am "joined back up to the 'worst mom club'." :)
  9. Just so you won't feel too bad, my daughter finished doing Singapore 6A and it fell out of her head over the summer. Just All. Fell. Out!! It's a 12 year old thing. In fact, I wrote a thread on her ;)
  10. They have one kind that is just henna... I used that for my daughters :) ... and another for those who have grey hair that they're trying to hide:) That's the two step one. The one for just coloring is only one step... :)
  11. I think it was really nice the way a family left our old church. I was young, but I still remember it. They asked to talk during the sharing time. They explained that they loved our church, but had prayed about it and it was time they went to a different one. They wanted to be friends with us, they had no hard feelings towards anyone there.... they just had decided to join another church.... It was really nice to know that they had no ill will towards anyone and answered the questions before any gossip could occur. It gave everyone the chance to kinda say, "sorry... but it's good to know"... :)
  12. Wow, I've been unconcerned about my son, knowing that many are late bloomers in the "not wet" thing. He isn't always wet, just sometimes. (never during the day) Perhaps I should have him checked. I already believe in Chiros... perhaps I should try that again :)
  13. This could be something that the Eastern and Western Churches could "agree" on and would make the Protestant think that they were going in the right direction... at least on this issue :) I totally believe that the Priests should be able to be married... and believe it would make them able to understand families more. Nothing in the Bible says that they should NOT be married..... and "married to the church" just isn't the same. Course... that's another part of believing in tradition. But, tradition is something that can be interpreted differently... and can change ;)
  14. For me, it has absolutely nothing to do with women who make good or even Better leaders. It has everything to do with the fact that I believe God has put men in the position.... whether they want to fulfill it or not... or being in authority of the home and the place where we all meet... called church ;) It doesn't mean that we wouldn't be more efficient... perhaps we would be. It doesn't mean that I think all men are great leaders. BUT, when there are men who will lead.... they should. Now... if you look at a particular family where the man leads..... I... for my daughter.... want a man who leads sacrificially. Not one who leads for selfish pleasure. In Church, I want a Pastor who calls men to their role as Leaders and Servers in their home.... to women as the nurturers and supporters of their husbands...and to children as the coming generation. Children who respect and love God, their parents and their siblings ;) And, I'm not even saying that I think women can't work outside of their houses.... Just that they support their husbands and children :) (Just didn't want that part misinterpreted...) :)
  15. I'd put them in some "order" copy the tapes to cds.... and then have my kids listen to them for quiet time. If you order the books.... say... 1-30... and then they start the cd off and listen to the first 10 or so... and then go on... I also have other cds... so they wouldn't have to listen over and over... but could if they liked ;)
  16. I have a 12 year old. I'm just hoping we both live, without hating each other, until she's out of the house... or nice ;)
  17. Hey Heather :) Women should be in Biblical authority over other women and children who aren't "men" yet. In other words, they shouldn't be teaching in Church or Bible Study with Men who are purposely there. But :) They can be President :) My dad actually wrote his Dissertation on this question... as well as... http://www.amazon.com/Role-Women-Ministry-Today/dp/0801020069/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1294072556&sr=8-14 If it looks like a book that would be interesting to read, I could see about sending you one :)
  18. My daughter and my dad went to Italy, summer before last. They had a blast!! :)
