  1. Call them. There may be a glitch in the computer or something going on.
  2. Mine are in high school now. When I think back to our first co-op which was preschool to 3rd grade, I think 75% are still with us. Some of those families did try out public school and came back. But most of those families are still homeschooling.
  3. I'd just break off the sprouts and cut around the bad spots. I do that all the time.
  4. We paid about $150 for a violin and she's pretty happy with it. I think if she was going to stick with music long term she might want to get a nicer one.
  5. Mortgage but when dh's pay is up we spend more on food.
  6. Calling a child by the middle name is something that has happened a lot historically in our family and continues today. My youngest goes by a nickname for her middle, my step-daughter has 2 of 5 who go by middle names, my Dad went by his middle name when he was young but now goes by his first. The only thing with this is that at Doctor offices they will use the first name until you let them know what name the kid goes by.
  7. Where have I been: I've been in all the southern states except Mississippi. I've hit most of the mid-west and some of the eastern states, California and Hawaii. I've been to various parts of Mexico, Quebec, and the Bahamas. Favorite place: Hawaii Farthest away from home: Hawaii
  8. Hoping for Hawaii in 2017. Dream List: Thailand Singapore Vietnam New Zealand Tahiti Vanuatu Japan Greece Bahamas again Iceland maybe Basically, I'd like to island hop around the world if I could live my dream.
  9. Start with food and tool safety. Move onto learning how to use a knife, peeling veggies and such. Then start with easy things like eggs, soup, casseroles and simple candies. From there you can move onto pasta, meats and such. Finally go onto baking starting with cookies, fruit bread, cake out of the box, yeast breads and then real cakes.
  10. Once you've been in remission for several years you may be able to get a regular policy again but the rates are probably going to be higher not only due to you being older but because of your medical history as well.
  11. Dh is 13 years older than me. We started dating right after I turned 21. We've been married for more than 20 years. The big thing as with all relationships is keeping the lines of communication open. Dh is high energy and I'm low-energy so it's usually been me trying to keep up with him. Health issues and insurance could be a problem for your daughter and her bf if they continue down life's path together. It can work out very well.
  12. Maybe Julia Child's but it's all about French cooking. I do know of one out there that looked pretty good that I saw at the library. Let me get back to you. I'm going there today and can probably get the name for you.
  13. I've started telling them once they hit the teen years to just have a dream, any dream and go for that. My oldest wants to go to college but has no idea of what she wants to do other than travel. We've decided to let her be an exchange student during her gap year and hope that she figures out what she wants to do sometime over the next 3 years. Youngest wants to be an artist but also has music and birds. I've really let her follow her interests growing up and really don't expect her to go the college route but who knows what will actually happen. I've learned that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and that life generally has a plan for you but you get to find out what it is as you go along and it's not always what you were thinking or hoping it might be. So I've learned to be very open, accepting and to let them make the decisions about their lives. I'm just the support and the one cheering them on and showing them the options that might work for them.
  14. We have a full size garden and fruit trees and brambles. We're growing: cherries strawberries black & red raspberries apples lettuce--already done, just feeding the stalks to the ducks and chickens now potatoes sweet potatoes peppers tomatoes squash we may grow pumpkins for the chickens since they love them so much.
  15. We picked up an old wooden truck from a garage sale and stuck it outside by the front door. We just store it all in there and they don't get rained on or scattered everywhere. I also don't trip over them anymore.
  16. I give my daughter the same credit as any other class taken for the entire year.
  17. :grouphug: My step-daughter went through something similar. They had to push for a D&C so they could move past the baby being dead for over a month. It was awful for everyone. So I really feel for you right now. It is such a hard thing to go through, I just can't imagine but I know how traumatic it was for her. I wish you the best and hope that all is well this time.
  18. I did the secular for 9-12 and you didn't have Khanacademy down as a choice. It's something I've been very happy with and my kids have done well with. I use it for a lot of subjects.
  19. I guess mine are a little less Com and more Rom. A Room with a View--a few funny parts. Greencard The Chinese movie--A Beautiful Life The Korean movie--The Beauty Inside was also very intriguing.
  20. My oldest would wander off so I leashed her until she was almost 5. Both children were on leashes at Disney World when they were not in their stroller. My kids are teens now so it's been a while but I still recommend them. And it seems to be a family thing. I know my uncle wore one back in the late 30s early 40s when he was a toddler/preschool age.
  21. Also going to suggest Khan Academy. It could take you years to go through the entire Art History program but you could pick and choose from the various topics and get a great class.
  22. Khan Academy has some interesting stuff on there for music as well. I'm having my youngest daughter work through their articles and videos.
  23. I have the Holt Environmental science text for my daughter to do next year. We are not using Oak Meadow but just going through the text on our own. I looked at a lot of earth science texts and choose this one because it has more of a geography focus which is where her interests lay. I liked the fact that it talks about not only earth science topics but how people and animals interact and adapt to them. There are several chapters on pollution and climate change as well. I like my kids to know both sides of an argument and not to just blindly follow but to decide on their own what to believe or not to believe.
  24. Mine do a lot of work independently but still need guidance, help with questions on things they can't figure out on their own, instruction in foreign language, help with editing, etc. We do a lot of our talking/discussion outside of actual school-time. I do work part-time but mostly once they are done with the bulk of their work or only have stuff they are reading left.
