  1. I have never used geometry but did use algebra 1 for one of my kids. It did not have a home sat video at the beginning . How disappointing. It is probably due for an update . I'm sure the teaching is very solid, but it is a little off setting about the date of it. Sorry. :(
  2. We have almost always used BJU for our elementary reading curriculum. We love it. The teacher books are a pain, but I love the workbooks that go with the readers.
  3. We love brain pop here. We don't use it as a full curriculum or anything, but we definately enjoy supplementing with it.
  4. There is a lot out there. We get the veggie burgers from Costco with a gluten free bun. So yummy! We also do gluten free pasta with marinara sauce. There is beans and rice with corn chips and salsa. You can also make any kind of sandwhich with udis gluten free bread. (Except cheese of course) There are breakfast bars that are gf df at Walmart, and also muffins in the frozen section. We also do lentil soup and gf cornbread made with almond milk. There is plenty out there. You just have to improvise but it is not the end of the world. My daughter and I are also mostly meat free as well. This diet makes us feel so much better. I also have hashimotos as well as other conditions.
  5. I have used both Math U See and BJU math for elementary math. I really like both for different times. My sons have used BJU this year for k5 and 5th grade. I use MUS gramma and delta for 3/4 th grade because it teaches multiplication and division so well, imho.
  6. Casting crowns has some beautiful songs like ..Just be held, Thrive and more. They are Christian and super uplifting :)
  7. Love veggie burgers with tomatoes , lettuce and ketchup.
  8. What didn't work: Math u see Voyages in English Essentials in writing What worked and we loved: Mcruffy phonics and reading Story of the world BJU math This year I used a lot of "in the middle" things that worked well enough but not loved.
  9. Both of my girls are in art classes and also take several music lessons. I wouldn't say our homeschool is centered around it, but it does take a good chunk of time for practice and lessons.
  10. I feel the best when I eat a raw food diet. So much energy it is amazing. Atkins diet makes me feel like I have the flue. I stuck with it for 3 months one time, and it never went away. It just doesn't fit me. I love juicing and smoothies, raw nuts, veggies and lots of fruit. This is how I feel the very best. Dairy and gluten are like poison to my body.
  11. Ah...I get it now. We are not doing A-G just regular high school. My dd will be going to a private Christian college so it is not needed. Thanks for clarifying :) I was a bit confused. Good to know. If we had to do the twice a week thingy, I'd be out.
  12. Actually at sage oak, you only have to meet with the supervising teacher once a month :) as a high schooler.
  13. I am using a sage oak charter for my daughter next year again. I pulled her out for ninth grade, but she really missed all that the charter offered us ( outsourced art lessons and supplies, great literature books etc.) She will also get drivers ed paid for. We are using a combination of curriculum for her: Video text, oak Meadow and Acellus. All high school curriculum must be secular just fyi. We are not going the A-G route with her. She already has her after high school college picked out and doesn't need it. My other 3 kids are also in the charter and have been the last two years, but they are k, 5th, and 7th. I have used beautiful feet, BJU press, apologia , first language lessons, story of the world, plus many other secular and Christian curriculum. K-8 , you can use whatever you want, the sample just has to be secular. They also get art lessons, horsebackriding lessons, monthly kits and some curriculum. I don't recommend everyone going with a charter. It works for my family, but we need it for the funds. I am super organized, so monthly meetings are no biggie to me. My kids get so many enrichments and they love our supervising teacher. Also, even though many may feel I am not a real homeschooler,...I'm okay with that ;) I'm still the only one that teaches them everyday. Feel free to PM me any questions.
  14. I think Sonlight as well. My other thought was My Fathers World. You could also go the more schooly route and use BJU press complete kit for each grade, but that gets a little pricy. We did MFW for two years, and I have fond memories of it :)
  15. It looks like it is some reading and answering questions through the chapters, and then a lab project printout at the end of the chapters. It looks really neat! Would there be a way to print out progress of the child I wonder? I report to my charter so that would be needed. Looks promising!
  16. Ahh, now I see what to do. You have to register to get the sample.
  17. We usually have a big ham dinner with all the fixings on Easter, but this year it is homemade bread a soup. I'm just not geared up for it this year. Not sure why but it is what it is. I did get all the stuff for my kids Easter baskets and egg hunt.
  18. These look interesting. I'm wondering if they are pretty much the books, just online, or are there some sort of interactive teaching on there as well. I tried to find a sample of the online class on their website, but couldn't find one.
  19. I am pondering using Bookshark or Oak meadow for my 1st and 6th grader next year. For Bookshark , I would use the k and 5 level programs, with their correct level language arts and math. I just like the looks of those levels. Oakmeadow would be their 1st and 6th grade curriculum. Anyone else use these programs and love it? Convince me one way or the other, please. I really want more hands on this next year than I have had this last year. Any btdt stories would be lovely, or what you like about them or whatever..
