  1. I host parties and even bbqs, and the food is all vegan. No one goes hungry, and of course some of the men are going to say Hey where's the steak? On the cow, where it belongs is my reply. I wouldn't serve meat; we have a vegan home. I don't really even see meat or cheese as actual food anymore, strange thing.
  2. Glad your eyes are feeling better! Changing your diet drastically usually changes your digestion for a time. You need different intestinal flora to digest the new foods, so much of your two pounds could just be a bit more weight because you haven't digested as fully as usual, so more in the intestines. If you think this is an issue (like if you get gassy or constipated or loose stools), then you maybe could try a probiotic.
  3. I'm not sure when you went veg, but it's far easier now to find vegetarian and vegan restaurant food. Dh and I went to a sports bar on Sunday and got spaghetti with marinara, nice green salad with nuts and dried fruit, and garlic bread (they use olive oil). I can get a whole vegan meal at Chik fil a or Taco Bell, no problem. And if you eat dairy, you can eat anywhere. If anyone ever says Poor you about my eating, I just beam at them and say, "No, I am so happy eating the way I eat, let's just enjoy our meal." I'm happy to talk ethical, environmental, and health benefits any time except during a meal. It's too awful for me to talk about gestation crates when people are eating their bacon.
  4. I don't label myself irl as a vegan unless someone asks. And at restaurants, I've gotten great at finding/creating stuff to order. Recently we were at a Jamaican restaurant (yummm),and after we finished ordering, the server said, 'oh are you guys vegetarian?" I said yes, and DIL said "We're vegan." I could see the waitress panicking, so I said, "Don't worry, we know how to order."
  5. I yelled "4 on the floor" and if they did it again, they sat on the floor.
  6. Plus with 3D printers, it will soon be a piece of cake to fabricate your own weapon.
  7. How sad that I can't find anyone anywhere talking about anything besides guns. An evil man killed and wounded so many people, and again, all we can do is politicize it. Using tragedy and the blood of innocents to get laws passed is disgusting.
  8. Me too! Ds now 24 actually was the first in our family to go veg, at 12. Dh and I gradually went veg too, then vegan about 10 years ago. We're all normal weight and healthy (knock on wood). So many benefits! The only drawbacks are other people being rude, and some social situations. I've just learned to keep a sense of humor, eat before I go anywhere, bring food enough for everyone (because they will eat my food and leave me hungry!), and keep a protein bar in my purse. :)
  9. Friends of mine gave a frozen meal "shower" for my second baby; they brought great homemade stuff like lasagna, chicken soup, etc. I had easy healthy meals for a month! :)
  10. I use a bunch of free ones I got from work, they are big and pink. Also indispensable is a (folding, I have a little car) hot/cold container I keep in the trunk for the frozen stuff.
  11. I'm glad I like tart cherry juice (helps gout), root vegetables brown rice, tomatoes Wish I had unlimited funds to spend on organic produce (I know, not really the question!) Glad I don't like meat, dairy, eggs. Wish I didn't like sweets!
  12. My then childless brother told my sister that his kids would never use pacifiers. When his oldest was two, the boy still needed a pacifier in the mouth and one in each hand to go to sleep. My SIL used to 'sprinkle' pacifiers in the crib so he could find them when drowsy :D
  13. Congratulations! Did they give your daughter progesterone? It can help babies "stick".
  14. Congratulations! Babies are the best. I think getting the glucose meter is a good idea. Test fasting and one hour after meals, keep a log, and bring it to your first appointment.
  15. Have you tried a couple weeks of probiotics? Goodbelly makes a good one, it's a liquid, and they have coupons on their site.
  16. For a quick help, you can mix a bit of hydrocortisone and antifungal cream ( one that says for jock itch) together and apply, then apply a zinc oxide based diaper rash cream on top. The antifungal use every day for a week, but only use the cortisone a few times and just a thin coating. Happy Birthday Boy! :)
  17. I haven't read the responses yet, apologies. I'm a nurse so excuse my bluntness, but if you have an eating disorder, please get some help for it. If I'm wrong about that, then I'd suspect low B12 levels from your symptoms, and start supplementing tomorrow. B12 is cheap and easy to take, tiny pills.
  18. Hi, you must be so tired with the new baby and the others so young. <3 I agree with the 5HTP ^^ supplement (if you're not taking psych meds), also would add magnesium before bed (400 mg-ish). If you don't get a lot of sun, adding vitamin D3 (1000 mg) is not a bad idea. And if you're breastfeeding, B12. I know when you're anxious, tired, hormonal, and depressed, that meditation seems a ridiculous pipe dream fix. It really can help, though. At first, just 5 or 10 minutes at a time is fine, and if your thoughts race, try a guided meditation. Try it when you're not feeling anxious, it's easier then. There's lots free on youtube btw. I would say yoga too, but I know you don't have time for that right now.

  20. Nutrisystem tasted awful to me. I lost 60 pounds in ~3 months, and another 30 in the next 3 months, and have kept it off for 15 years (except 10 lbs that i re-gained and my body apparently likes to hang on to). I have a normal BMI and am 5'2", am now 59 years old. It wasn't nutrisystem, or even L.A. Weightloss (which was better than nutrisystem imo) that helped me lose the weight. I went vegan, and not only did the weight fall off, but my health improved in just about all ways. I have never gone hungry since going vegan; I eat when I'm hungry. I eat a huge variety of food, so much more delicious, colorful, and healthy than my old 'meat and 2 sides' meals. I feel great, do yoga daily, feel 20 years younger than my age. Dh, adult Ds and my daughter-in-law have all been vegan for 15 years, too. (Daughter in law for 7-8 years, actually.) We're all healthy (knock wood). Now I know that most of you will now automatically hate me because I'm a vegan, but I couldn't resist throwing my story into the ring. This 21-day vegan challenge is free, healthy, and pretty easy, designed by cardiologists and other vegan doctors... http://www.pcrm.org/kickstartHome/mealplan/week-1 Best of luck OP on your weight loss journey, however you decide. <3
  21. Maybe AIR BNB would have a big place with better rates? That's a lot of money.
