  1. My adult kids have smallish feet, dd is 5'6" with size 5.5-6 feet, ds is 5'11" with size 9s.
  2. Put them in paper bags and leave 'em on neighbors' porches at night. That's what my mom had us do with the excess huge zucchini and overgrown green beans! Or maybe a food bank could use them?
  3. Publix is a fantastic grocery store! Yes to organic stuff, and if you eat meat, they have the Boar's head subs that are really good.
  4. Hi and thanks! :) I've been lurking on and off for a few years. I homeschooled my now 28dd and 24ds and I like you folks.
  5. I used to work with Food Not Bombs, but the police hassled us so much for handing out food to hungry people without a permit that we had to stop.
  6. Gross. Come to a new country and work in a factory farm. :/ What must they think of us.
  7. You can put a little piece of the flea collar in the vacuum to avoid this. You can order the flea meds from 800petmeds or similar site without prescription if your vet won't sell it to you without a visit. Its just a small little tube of liquid applied between the dog's shoulder blades. I've used Advantage with good results; we don't have a tick issue here, so I get the plain flea Advantage to avoid extra chemicals (old doggie). A good trick to pick up any stray fleas around the house is to put a nightlight with a dish of water in front of it before bed. They go for the light and fall in the water.
  8. This is sounding more and more abusive to me with each post. I'd look into getting her placement in a nursing home with an Alzheimer's unit. I got a sick feeling in my stomach reading that he mocks her like that.
  9. My 24-year old son and his wife live with us; they both work. We don't charge rent because they are very frugal and are saving up for a house. They use public transportation, do not drink at all or go to restaurants often; DIL loves thrift stores, etc. We have a phone plan that is just $100/month for 5 phones, so we just pay that (dd lives in an apartment with one of the phones.) DS and DIL help out so much, and we are so happy to have them here. All our yardwork, housework, and most of the cooking is done by the two of them. We share in the groceries; we shop frugally and are vegetarian, so food is cheap. We pay utilities, and they pay for the wifi (no cable,we cut the cord). Dh is disabled, so the help is very welcome; we love them, and we are happy to have them stay as long as they want.
  10. Hi, I've been lurking, but just registered to answer this post. I'm an RN and know there are so many elderly people in this kind of situation. Full time care of an Alzheimer's patient is too much for an 89-year old man. There are elder services out there; you can help set them up with things like Meals on Wheels, housekeeping help, help with fixing things around the house, and maybe most importantly, caregiver respite. With a patient with memory issues, he can't even sleep restfully at night, as she might wander away. The county they reside in should have services. This link (not spam, I promise) has some good information; scroll down for links by state. Good luck and hugs to all of you. The helpless feeling that family members have in this situation is just overwhelming. https://www.eldercaredirectory.org/state-resources.htm
