  1. ok, just looked through Sonlight and that is going to be out of our budget. I am wanting something that will lay it all out for me in lesson plans. I have tried making my own but this being our first year I am not doing very well. And I have tried winging it without lesson plans and that really didnt work. AWOA spells it all out for me. Kind of HS for dummies I guess. Any others out there like this that will fall more into the Classical Education?
  2. Yes, we went through the same thing this year. What we do is fine other ways to work on the area dd9 is in. Maybe games, file folders, online practice.
  3. Is there another program out there. That will allow me to combine them for some of the subjects but seperate them in the areas needed like Math and Grammar etc. Something that has an overall lesson plan included?
  4. (yes, I'm planning already! :tongue_smilie:) Me too. DH is thinking I am insane but I lucked out and was handed the copy of AWOA. I also want a plan to I can save up for what we want. I will look at Sonlight. Anybody else???
  5. Thank you for all the replies and ideas. They have successfully completed their first four squares on their quilts.
  6. You can demand to have an MRI and dont take no for an answer. You know your body better than anyone. With the ER being flooded with flu symptoms they seem to be pushing everyone through as quick as they can. Hang in there and do what you think is best. Good luck and let us know!
  7. We had several reasons. The biggest was the stress PS was causing my dd9. She is extremely bright but doesnt quite fit the mold of "the perfect child". She was falling behind, even with hours of homework. She was crying everyday because of the social structures she had to deal with. We also were not happy with alot of elements our girls were being exposed to. I began to understand that I as their mother, could do a better job than a stranger at teaching our girls. With all the choices in curriculum anyone who is motivated can teach their children and do a better job than PS. It has by far been the best decision we have ever made.
  8. So this year we are using AWOA and we really like it. However after reading all the threads about ANWOA I dont think we will be using it next year. So I am wondering where to go from here. Also my mom keeps asking me if it is ok that my dd6 and dd9 are learning so close together. Should I be doing more seperate? I really like the way AWOA is all laid out for you and just open and go. However I want to make sure they are both getting what they need on their own levels. I'm up for any ideas I can look into.
  9. So sorry for you my dd17 had really bad migraines since she was 10. The Dr put her on Topamax and after 18 months on it all the migraines are now gone. She has been off of it for almost a year now. Might want to think about it for long term treatment. As for the attack if this is way out of the norm for you I agree with your friend that you should get to the Dr now. If he is out go to the ER. You can never be to careful about these things. I hope you feel better.
  10. :iagree: I just learned of this a year or so ago and the last time kiddos had a fever i did not use medication and sickness seemed to go quicker. I would have to look it up but there was a chart to go by if under a certain age a fever up to... is ok. Anyway we are getting over the flu, not swine there was no fever over 101 and no vomitting and it is as bad as I remember. Just lots of fluids and rest and honey for the cough (thanks to TWTM ladies).
  11. Count me in. Kiddos have been sick for almost two weeks now. I do think they are on the tail end of it but......... of course now it is mommy's turn. Ugh!! I need a nursemaid! This Will make me stronger! This Will make me stronger! Right?
  12. You should also check out the MEP yahoo group. They have a comparision of MEP and several different math programs. We love MEP here!
  13. I also agree with Elizabeth's website it has helped us along great! I am also using progressive phonics and it is working great! We actually break the books into sections and dd6 will only cover a few blends a week ex. sl, cl, bl and so on. We also do starfall a few times a week and lots of games. I would really recommend the file folder games she has really enjoyed those and has learned alot. Otherwise I would not worry. All of my children learned at different levels but are all now good readers. Just keep practicing at his speed and keep reading out loud to him. Keep up the good work!
  14. W also are using AWOA but we also supplement with MOH and my girls love MOH. You can teach any grade at the same time. Not much planning involved and you can beef it up as much as you like with the extra activities and books.
  15. we use it as our main curriculum. I did print out the lessons and TM but will have them printed and bound at the UPS store from now on. They are actually pretty cheap. My girls love MEP and are doing great! I love the mental part of the program my dd9 is still finishing her multiplications from PS last year and has already grasped and moved past division. Math has always been her weak spot but she is actually loving math now. Good luck!!
  16. Just found this. I have not looked through the entire thing but it looks like a great resource for Ancient Egypt study. http://www.metmuseum.org/explore/publications/pdfs/egypt/egypt.pdf
  17. Thanks! We are working on Ancient Eypt now. This will be great!
  18. I cant offer much help with your dh but i will send you a hug:grouphug:. I am very blessed to hve a dh that was on board with hs from the get go. As for the teaching multiples mine are dd6 and dd9 and we do Bible, History, Science, Art, Spanish, together. The math, grammar, copywork/dictation, writing for dd9, phonics are done seperately so I stagger them. I have my dd9 working independently on her writing for example while I do phonics and copywork with dd6. we have changed our schedule a couple of times as you probably will until you find what fits. Good luck to you and remember you are doing what is best!!!!
  19. Which copywork on currclick is age appropriate for 6 year old? There are thousands of them but the ones I have looked at seem to be to hard for my dd6.
  20. Oh, have you looked at flyladies student control journel? http://www.flylady.net/index.asp towards the bottom on the right hand side there is a free print out for kids. It actually breaks their rooms down into different zones to do each day so they dont get overwhelmed.
