  1. bump hoping some of you evening posters might have some ideas. I can believe I cant figure this out.
  2. ok, unless someone else has an idea i will just wait for you. Can you PM me if he has any suggestions? This board moves so fast this post will be lost by tonight. Oh, and thank you, thank you, thank you!
  3. I wish I could answer that!~ I think that is what I did with the write, camera, action. installed a copy of quicktime 2.1 but the program still keeps saying I need it. How do I install quicktime 2.1 in compatibility mode? Maybe this will work since quicktime 2.1 is an older version.
  4. Nope, still saying I need quicktime 2.1 or higher. This is alot of trouble for a program I paid $3 for. If she didnt want it so bad i would just toss it. So now i have to figure out how to get quicktime 2.1. Ugh can I scream?
  5. ok, i foolowed the instructions and everything seemed to be working. Now I get an error message that says Write, CAmera, Action must have quicktime v2.1 or higher. So I downloaded a free copy of Quicktime 7 and it still says that. I am going to restart to see if that makes any difference.
  6. Ok tried this it still does not work. I get the same message "winspool.dll is not found" Thanks for trying. Let me know if your DH has any ideas. Thanks
  7. :iagree: I was just going to suggest that you talk to Elizabeth B. Her program has worked wonders foe us!
  8. I bought a copy of Write, Camera, Action at a yard sale new unopened. It was set-up for Windows 95. We have windows XP. Everytime I try to install it I get an error message that says winspool.dll is not found. I have done some research and my computer has winspool.drv and will not install the program. Is there an easy way to install winspool.dll on my computer so we can run this program. I do not know alot about computers but I can follow directions good if someone could give me a step by step list. Please!!!!
  9. At the beginning of the year I wasn't all that happy with what we were using. I HS my two youngest 6 and 9 and they were doing everything seperate except history(which they weren't really liking). It was so time consuming and I always felt torn to be in two places at once. I was blessed enough to receive a copy of AWOA and decided to ditch eveything and start fresh with this. Now I can say that we really love our choice! They still do math seperate but evryhting else is combined and we are learning soooo much more and having fun with it!
  10. Just a quick thought my 4th grader was the same way about math. Hated it and even one problem would take forever. Someone turned me on to MEP. It is free online and she is loving it! I dont know anything about the program you are using but MEP is very much mental math but it is done in a fun way. It is advanced so she started in Yr3. Even the things she doesnt know she is enjoying. It is something about the way it is taught. Anyway here is the link if you want to check it out. Good Luck. http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm
  11. Oh my gosh!! They are supposed to do this in 4th grade. She screams over a few sentences which take hours. We are in real trouble!!
  12. The new kind that sprays like a fire ext. I spray it down in the morning, we do our bible study and when we are finish I literally just have to spray it off. Works great! I do this about once a week or so. Except when I have a broke foot like now! DH had to clean the shower for the first time in 8 years!!! Oh I wish I had my camera at that moment!!
  13. We have used Elizabeth's phonics lessons with great success. I was using HTT but my ds got confused with the method. We are now reviewing Elizabeth's phonics and using Progressive Phonics. It is free online and she loves the books. She was also reading the wrong words, adding words that weren't even there. I point to each word and make her say the words one at a time. This stops the guessing and she sounds them out. If he knows he letter sounds and knows them when he sees them individually I think he will be fine in time. He just needs practice and focus. My oldest was like this and it came slowly but now is a great reader. Hang in there it sounds like maybe take a break for a while and just do some phonics games and slowly start reading again when he's ready. Good Luck!!
  14. How To Tutor has a cursive handwriting workbook that breaks down each stroke. It's only $11.95 and I think you said before that you have the HTT book. If not you dont need it. The workbook basically just covers the individual letters and then I make my own worksheets putting the letters she has learned together into three letter words.
  15. We were using this as our main history program. Mainly for my 9year old with my 6 yr old tagging along. But, as much as I loved it, they did not. Even with the activities they became bored very quickly and honestly they just didnt seem to be getting it. Maybe they are still a bit young. Anyway we are now using AWOA and supplement with MOH. My kids are not really auditory learners and the lessons in MOH were to long to keep their attention. Even supplementing with it we tend to skim through the material to get to the timeline figures (One of the only things they did like about MOH). I do plan to try MOH again in a year or 2 and see if it works any better. Just FYI if your kids are auditory learners alot of people I know use this as the only history and say their kids do fine with it. It does cover alot of material. So I guess it depends on the kids.
  16. :iagree: this is pretty much what we do. I didnt notice how old your children are but I know with my kids if I didnt check work as it was done I would find alot not done at the end of the week. Could you just check for completeion on a daily basis and then check for accuracy on Sundays?
  17. My girls know that the school day is not over until they are finished with the work. With the new study we are using that is only about a 4 hour day but if they are being lazy it can become much longer. Now if they are having trouble with something we will finish it the next day. Just as long as I know they are trying and not being lazy.
  18. It is an amazing unit study that requires only the Bible and library books. It covers EVERYTHING except math, some fine arts and any extras (exp. typing , foriegn language). It evens includes a latin and greek study of words. The language arts portion is wonderful and goes more into detail than alot of grammar programs I have looked at. You can supplement some of your reading with videos if you like. Science, History, some fine arts, some music study, extra projects and great bible study. Again, We are loving it!!
  19. Just had to post about our recent change. I actually lucked out and picked up a copy of AWOA at a HS group kickoff for the beginning of the year. I had already planned all our curriculum so I put it on the shelf. It kept calling my name, I looked through it several times. Last week I realized how confusing and time consuming it was to have the kids in all different subjects. So I prayed really hard about how to make our days better and AWOA called my name again. SOOOOOOO I decided to go with it. We started this Monday and I have to say that we really really really love it. I have coloring pages for the bible lessons for DD6 and copywork for her language arts time. But it is amazing the kids are loving it really getting it and our total day takes less than 4 hours all together. I would definitely recommend this study to anyone with more than one child and even those that have one. The way it is laid out is sooooo easy to teach and the kids really get involved. So I changed my siggy and I am doing the happy dance!!!:lol::lol:
  20. you can try cathy duffy's top picks online it will show you most of them. They are on seperate pages but full of info.
  21. Our girls picked out our name and it is just for fun since our state doesnt require it. It is God's Adventures, soooooo we arent school or academy. But the girls love telling everyone "I go to God's Adventures"
  22. My 4th grader is doing this for this year but is doing it at her own pace. We are not entering the competition just using it for a good writing practice. I printed mine out because it was too expensive to have the print shop print them. I use the draft print option to save on ink. I also bought paper on sale at walmart for $2.50 a pack. Not to bad all in all.
  23. Not sure exactly what you are looking for but this is a nice program and it's free. It's is for creative writing and it really helps them to organize their thoughts. http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/workbooks
  24. The sad fact is I wonder how many REAL cases did not get the attention they needed because something silly like this was taking up the time of the DCF workers. These departments are very understaffed now and a few innocent photos of your own child should have not demanded this much time and attention!
