  1. I recently tore the tendons in my left foot so I had to use crutches for many weeks. Now that my foot is healed, I have a very sore spot on my right foot. It is on the ball just below big toe. I can feel a small hard bump and it is very painful to the touch. Does anyone know what this could be and how I can treat it. I have had it now for a few weeks and it doesnt seem to be healing on its own.
  2. Just FYI be aware that Dish NEtwork requires a two year contract and if you cancel service early there is a huge cancellation fee. We went with Direct.
  3. I saw that thread which is what made me think to pick these up but once I got home I looked them up and mine are Social Utility series and these are Pratical Series? Cant seem to find out what the diffeence is.
  4. What state do you live in. My Dh is a sales manager at a mobile home dealership and we just had one custom built about 2 years ago. We love it and it was built just like we wanted has around 2500 sqft and we only paid $82,000 and it's brand new. Mobile homes have come along way in the last 10 -15 years. In some states built to the same codes as site built homes and with all the bells and whistles. There are also pre-fab homes dependiong on where you live that would be cheaper than site building.
  5. I picked up book 1 and 2 and a yard sale today for $.50. These are the Social Utility series. Anyone heard of them or use them?
  6. I had oyster stuffing one time that was really good! Just the canned oysters cut up small and added.
  7. I guess I was looking for books for my children to enjoy that were written by a christian author. The unit study we use has this but I need some extra resources for read alouds and quiet reading time. I hadn't thought about Christanity not existed then so maybe just a Biblical perspective. Or maybe just age appropriate material. I am going to Books-A-Million soon and I am trying to make a list. Unfortunatley most of the books listed in our study I cant find.
  8. We are about to start our unit on Greek History. Any suggestions for good books written from Christian perspective? Age range from 6-9.
  9. We have our household rules posted on the wall. These include everything from disrespect to do our school work happily. When we wrote them out and posted them everyone in the family had to read them together. If they break a rule they get one reminder each day after the first reminder they have to write the rule so... many times. Since he is 7 i would keep them short but follow through if he breaks them. They have never had to write them, after the first reminder and having to stop and read the rule out loud, they get the picture.
  10. :iagree: with this. Also I use a rice sock for my girls to relieve the pain. Just take a sock fill it with uncooked rice. Warm in the microwave and lay it in the ear. Always works for them!
  11. Thank you for the suggestion, and yes I have looked at this as well. My girls were doing Abeka in their private school before we HS. They hate the DVDs and Abeka was not a good fit for dd9. I have looked at BJU but did not want everything seperate. I hadn't thought I could combine it. But there are no lesson plans are there? I really need that, hold your hand thing, right now or we tend to get to lost on a subject and everything else gets pushed aside. I will look at the BJU science for combining. I thought they were all grade level specific.
  12. The more i look the more I am leaning this way. I have the MFW catalog and I keep looking it over. So far I am thinking MFW is the best fit. I was kind of stuck on the history cycle but this looks great. And yes dd9 will be 5th next year and dd6 will be 2nd. Although my dd6 is showing signs of being very gifted. So I would just ned a LA and Math with this right?
  13. I have looked over HOD there are a few things that are holding me back. The first is that we are doing AWOA this year which will take us from the Beginning of History through The Age of Exploration. (I know this is alot in one year so we are slowing it down some) but they will need to move into American History after this program. I am HS dd6 and dd9 right now. In order to fit them into a program together through HOD I would need to do Preparing which is back to World History. I am frustrated right now and if it weren't for the disappointment with the Bible in AWOA I would just do the next volume with Learning Adventures. I am thinking of starting to look for a really good Bible to add next year. But there is also the issue of the set not being finished. I dont want my girls to be all over the place I would like to find something to stick to at least until high school.:001_unsure::001_unsure::001_unsure::001_unsure:
  14. Anyone use this. Is it all in one except math? Pros - Cons
  15. AWOA would be a good fit. If you leave out the Bible Studies there is not much else Bible focused. Now we are only in the first unit on Egypt so I could be wrong as it goes further. But I am actually not leaning towards this next year because of the lack of Bible. But it is very open and go.
  16. ok dont think I'm crazy but when my dd6 had alot of mucus it would get in the back of her throat and cause a cough or vomit. A friend recommended Coke in the can chilled. Drink through a straw straight from the can. It is only a temp. relief but it does work. I dont normally give my kiddos soda but this was an exception. Just a few sips at a time. Also Mucinex works GREAT!
  17. Raising a Godly Daughter in an Ungodly World by Vivki Courtney. This was a great read when my oldest girl was about 15. Wish I had read it sooner. http://www.vickicourtney.com/books_resources.htm scroll down list. There are also alot of other great books here.
  18. Is Trail Guide to Learning the same people as Trail Guide to Geography. Anyone use this? I am looking for an all in one program I wanted something Biblical but am now exploring doing something more like this and doind a seperate in depth bible study.
  19. We have a HS room (was our front lr) the kids have their own desks where they keep their own things. We also have several bookshelves one has a designated shelf for each child's extra reading. Although we tend to do all our work sitting at the dr table. Oh all of my bookcases I found at yard sales and repainted them.
