  1. We are using Mcguffey's and love them. We also recently started Ray's Arth. and all I can say is it was our 3rd math and the first to actually work. My mother has always told me that many generations ago educational standards were much higher and alot of the older text books seem to prove this. She sent me a website one time of a test that was on what children in the 5th grade were doing in the 40s and my junior in high school couldnt answer all. I think she made a 72. While we are still using some modern curriculum if I had my choice I would use all old text.
  2. I dont know if it will help or not but when my girl was going through this someone recommended Ray's Arithimetic it's online and free so I thoughtwould give it a try. It worked great! Not sure why but something finally has begun to click in her and she is flying through the lessons.
  3. let me know when you find the answer. i am going through this with dd9. We have switched programs already this year and now she hates what she is doing. She has been doing math for 2 hours and has 1 1/2 pages done. This is all review from last year but she thinks I will give up. DD6 is fine with whatever I give her. I am considering going to a worktext next year for Math and Grammar since nothing seems to make a difference anyway. I really feel for you!
  4. Is English the only good part? I am looking for a whole curriculum from a Baptist standpoint which will be more independent work.
  5. Considering for next year for 2nd and 5th grade. Would I need the TE? Do the student workbooks help teach the child? I am looking for a somewhat self teaching worktext that I can just beef up when needed.
  6. Just purchased history pockets through curr click they look great! Thanks
  7. :iagree: We have just started and mine are dd6 and dd9. So far so good. We were not able to find all the books on the schedule so we are substituting what our library had. I just bought the first history pocket and from what I have looked through I would say most of it a 1st and 2nd grader could do with a little help.
  8. Can someone suggest a good Indian unit study? somewhere between 1st and 4th grade level.
  9. are you referring to dd6 that isnt crazy about unit studies?
  10. DD6 is a workbook girl. She is happy with a schedule and her books so she can know what she has to do and finish it. She does like to read also. DD9 seems to be geared more toward unit studies and such she hates her workbooks. When we were using AWOA she loved this. How do I satisfy both kids. I dont want to do a unit study without dd6 and I hate to make dd9 do workbooks and textbooks. Any suggestions?
  11. which series from Math Mammoth did you all use?
  12. Thanks I looked at this but I'm not sure it would work any better for her. She seems to need just very basic problems, examples, directions. MEP seems to add in alot of extra that she just isnt ready for yet.
  13. What maths are out there that you can buy in e-book and print out? dd6 is not doing good in MEP she doesnt seem to be retaining anything. I am think maybe a mastery program but it is already November so I dont want to have to wait for shipping and our small town has nothing I can but.
  14. When I searched in our area UPS had the best prices. We dont have a staples so I dont know their prices.
  15. That is good to know. When I spoke to the rep at both Abeka and BJU they said that all of their books are taught from a non-denominatinal christian perspective. I do like the fact that LFB seems to be self contained. I have also heard from friends that Abeka is very involved to teach at home. Oh, and I almost forgot I was also told that BJU does use other translations than KJV.? I wonder why LFB is the only one that openly states that they are an Independent Baptist curriculum?
  16. Mine are 6 and 9 and they did fine with it. We have decided to switch to American history because that is what they are interested in. I can't speak for vol.2. I just posted mine for sell.
  17. no, there are no coloring pages included. The student notebook pages are included. I had my MOH 1 hole punched and place in a binder and I made copies of the student pages for DD9. I am selling mine now. Just wasn't a good fit for us. But I know alot who love it. Good Luck. Oh, I found plenty of free coloring pages online to go with program.
  18. Yes they do all use the KJV but BJU, Abeka are non denominational in their teaching material and I am not sure of the other two. I believe I was told ACE is Christian but not Independent Baptist. I will have to check into rod and staff.
  19. thanks for all the ideas. we are still working on this. Please pray for us that our needs be met.
  20. I spent over an hour yesterday reading reviews on these products and not one was bad. Homeschoolreviews has alot. Most people compared it's scope and sequence to Abeka and I have both s & s and from what I can tell they are pretty much on the same level academically.
  21. Yes, this is what I was looking for. They seem to be the only Baptist curriculum out there.
  22. I need to make about $400.00 very quickly! I have listed any extra HS books for sale and I need other ideas. I dont have enough stuff to have a yard sale so that is not an option. Any suggestions?
