  1. What can you tell me about these for 2nd and 5th grade. Due to a change in circumstances coming ahead we are thinking about these next year for our girls. How would the level compare to others say Abeka?
  2. Just wanted to let you know this is exactly what my mom did and she just lost over 50 pounds. It came off slow about 2 pounds a week but it has now been over a year and she hasn't put any back on. She just asked herself are you really hungry do you really need that. She stopped when she felt satisfied and did replace some snacks with healthier things that she liked. No strict diet , no calorie counting, no excercise. Just good old common sense as she puts it. She is only about 5' and was weighing in at somewhere over 160in a size 16. She is also 65 years old. She now weighs around 110 and wears a size 4. She looks great! Good Luck to you and keep the faith!
  3. I think this sounds great! At this point we definitely need something lighter and more fun. What did you use for American History?
  4. There aren't any that are required. She does have a TON listed in the back as suggestions if you would like to supplement.
  5. I agree my girls should be taught these things I just think dd6 is to young right now. When she is having nightmares because of our studies I think I need to put on the brakes. I think it depends on the child.
  6. After thinking about this for awhile I think it may best benefit my kids to put off this time in history and do Early American history. Any suggestions?
  7. ok next question we are using AWOA. This study covers almost everything but is compeletly base on World history. Can I just scrap it for now and start with American History three months into our school year? As of now we have just finished up our study of Egypt. I have other Grammar and writing programs we can use but I will have to buy American History. Any suggestions from a good Christian standpoint?
  8. Ok that actually makes me feel better because I am sure this is what is happening with dd6 and I felt horrible about having to ditch 4 year cycle. Any others have these experiences?
  9. For instance, in our lit reading the Golden Goblet it talks about Khefts, these mythical gods that come out at night and snatch away unguarded children. My dd6 had nightmares. Mostly the dd6 had a hard time understanding how all these other gods are mentioned and talked about but not real. She said ok when I explained they were not real but then would question later that made me think she was unsure. I'm wondering if there is a good age to introduce them to these things.
  10. If you cook it now, I think it would be ok. I would cook it on high at first to raise the temp and then you could turn it down on low to cook overnight. You cannot put in back in the fridge raw and cook it tomorrow.
  11. From a Christian perspective do you teach your children about the mythical Greek gods. If so what age? I have dd9 and dd6 and we are about to start our unit on Greece. Most of what I am seeing is dealing with the Greek gods. Yes, I can tell them they are fictional and back it up through our scripture but they have had a hard time processing that dealing with Egypt history and Greek goes alot further into other gods. Any advice?
  12. We did one on our own following MOH and AWOA. We used an ex-large project board, cut it into four equal parts horizontal and tack them to the wall side by side. We then used a strip of velcro down the middle for the timeline. When we are finished we will take it down and tape the back of the peices together so it will fold up like an accordian.
  13. Unfortunatley I do not have insurance. What kind of shoes and inserts have helped?
  14. what is TT. I couldnt find it on the abb. list.
  15. I could have written your post. My dd6 is the same way. We are doing Progressive phonics. It is free online and she likes the little stories. She reads through one in a single read but then we go over it a few times during the week. I have found a few things she did not know and was simply reading these words from memory so it has worked out well.
  16. Whew! I feel tired just reading this! Wish I had your motivation. I just started a new diet plan today. No real diet just trying to pay attention and eat healthier. I do not like to excercise. Thus the weight gain. My mom and my sis both lost 50 pounds and never did one single excercise. Life is simply not FAIR!
  17. I think funerals are hard for most people but I can see where you would have bad memories. I also try to avoid them but in this situation I cant say I could come up with a good enough excuse. Maybe it will help you get past your feelings. Just try sitting in the back. Just being there will show your emotional support.
  18. I made my dd9 one for writing. It works well when she uses it! haha
  19. Where is this at WP? I cant seem to find it. Is it the same thing you get from HIW? Or is it just the figures?
  20. We are currently using AWOA and we love it. That being said my oldest using it is dd9. Dd6 only sits in on Bible, lit, history and science. The Grammar portion is pretty involved but my 4th grader is doing it this year. It is designed to be for grades 4-8 but I would have to say you would want to beef it up. The history is good but you will need to add extra resources, books, videos. The science has been light so far but looking ahead into the next unit it seems to pick up. Again this is easy to beef up with extra resources. It is planned out Great! If you have a tight day you can just use the book and know that everything was covered. For the days you have plenty of time add in all the extras. My girls are doing an egyptian dig as I speak. I was worried that the Bible was a little slim but it also seems to be picking up. I have not used the other program.
  21. My dd9 has the same problem. Ortho here told me it was best to wait until all baby teeth were out to see what we would be dealing with. I also have two friends who put braces on their kids at the age of 9 and 10 and they ended up having to wear them for 5 years. This is what our Ortho. is trying to avoid. Teeth will continue to shift until all permanent teeth are end. So braces will be needed until all shifting is done. This may not be the case in every situation. But I would rather dd9 only have to wear them for 2 years than 5. Not to mention the difference in money.
  22. I agree with other posters. When we teach Sunday School a disruptive child is giving a few chances to behave and then taken to the parents. It is not ideal as you want all children to have a chance to learn but it is really not fair to all the rest of the children who are behaving.
  23. I read the info you provided and it was sounding like it but then it said thee is normally no outward sign of this. Thee is very clearly a bump you can see on my foot. Do you have this?
  24. This spot is on the foot that was not injured. It came up as a result of walking on the crutches for 6 weeks.
